a lot of “just go with it, it may or may not be explained later or have been explained in the past but it doesn’t really matter” is very true to the books

it wasn’t obvious enough. the fifth film will just be 2 hours of Keanu saying “gently caress Warner Brothers”

the problem is that if the film was just Werner Herzog and Keanu bitching about Hollywood it’d do good numbers

Obviously, Dune has been around as a book since the Sixties. And the David Lynch film came out in the Eighties. Were you a fan?
I saw that film and I quite enjoyed it. And at the time, I think I got a paperback you know, and of course, it was a very, very different kind of take on it.

The first book is famously dense — when I first picked it up as a teenager, I gave up after like 10 pages.
It’s a big book.

Did you in fact, finish it?
I don’t think I did. [Laughs] I’d rather watch the movie.

well, if you go by the standard of ending set by the first book then I don’t think you can complain much about the others?

i'm now remembering something that i really liked from dunc 2 baron dies confused as gently caress lol. i like that paul kneels down, calls him grandfather, and instead of having some grand moment of realization and whatever hokey bullshit he just gets a knife to the neck with a 'wtf is this kid talking about?' look on his face'. a+ for that, dennis. thank you

It’s good but it’s competing with this in the book

quote:

“As he spoke, Alia fled backward, feigning terror. “Let the storm have what it can take!” she screamed. And she backed into the Baron’s arms.

“I have her, Majesty!” the Baron shouted. “Shall I dispatch her now-eeeeeeeeeeeh!” He hurled her to the floor, clutched his left arm.

“I’m sorry, Grandfather,” Alia said. “You’ve met the Atreides gom jabbar.” She got to her feet, dropped a dark needle from her hand.

The Baron fell back. His eyes bulged as he stared at a red slash on his left palm. “You… you….” He rolled sideways in his suspensors, a sagging mass of flesh supported inches off the floor with head lolling and mouth hanging open.”

its good that in the modern age of kindle self publishing you can choose exactly the amount of weird sex stuff you want in your pulp sci fi/fantasy. back in the day authors would just surprise you at random 3/4 the way through a book. or randomly in sequels since dune is on everyone’s minds

for kindle stuff does anyone actually see those covers?

whoa, I thought this was canned along with a bunch of other projects

I was looking at the development history… it looks like they went through 3 show runners but part of that appears to be because Villeneuve was set to direct the initial episode but couldn’t due to scheduling with part 2 so that may not be as bad as it initially looks.

however what is concerning is that it is based on the Brian/Kevin novel sisterhood of dune. Kevin has a producer credit instead of Brian’s executive producer which implies Kevin is actually doing stuff
