I'd say the group dynamics get sufficiently complex at 7 for the game to work, but yes you need at least 6 friends and/or acquaintances for it to be worth your time imo

It usually takes me an hour or two to get a good lobby together doing public games, then it's really really fun for like 3 or 4 matches, and then some people drop and it's back to square one. The more people you have in your core group, the more likely a public lobby is to work. If I can get three of my friends together, that's usually enough to have fun doing public lobbies. (it helps that you can boot anyone who is toxic when its your lobby) and if that's not working four people is actually enough to have fun playing hide and seek, at least. If my friends aren't playing, I find one of the many discord groups that organize pickup games and run with some folks there. A lot of the fun of the game also comes with playing with people you've played before, building up patterns of behaviour and in-jokes and tweaking the rules and playing weird game modes (hide and seek, proximity chat) together.

I just wanna say the ~2 minutes after this timestamp is one of the hardest I've laughed at among us, even if it's not "official" among us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuezmTQsOMg&hd=1&t=5087s just the way fyrus and desbug were roleplaying father and son, and then desbug killed fyrus, and fyrus's response to being asked why he didn't report the body he saw desbug kill earlier, he gives the most honest and frank-sounding "cuz...because he's my son." complete with the perfect hand gestures, it's so good. I wish they would do more.

The new airship map has been kind of a letdown. The new tasks are all tedious. Having to do swipe cards for every door sucks. And honestly the map is too big. All I really wanted was variations of Polus, the best map. Or maybe a slightly bigger version of Skeld. Innersloth definitely left the door open for competitors to jump in.

For anyone still interested in this game, most people I know still playing are using Town of Us/Polus, which allows you to add a bunch if additional roles and powers to any individual game - like a morphling thay can change shape instead of venting, a miner that can build their own vent network, or a sheriff that can try and kill someone that's an impostor but they die if they are wrong.
