Erdogan needs a win. Libya is a quagmire, Syrian intervention did not go off as planned, Greeks have diplomatic advantage in the Aegean.

Is that controversial? They're literally Caucasian, were the first place to officially Christianize and are constantly feuding with their Muslim neighbors. I'd think that would tick a lot of Neo Nazi culture war boxes.

I mean take your pick:

Good interview with Thomas de Waal

his main point is that Turkey is backing them now like never before

Iranian forces are engaging with Azeri aircraft

Where is your source for this?

There have been Iranian reports that some shelling fell over the border into Iran, but that nobody was hurt. This is probably expected as the frontline would end right on the border.

The Armenians have yet to produce any evidence that they lost the plane to an F-16. On the other hand, if they did lose a plane then saying that a Turkish F-16 shot it down paints Turkey and Azerbaijan as escalating wildly. Azerbaijan has clear capability to deliver precision-guided munitions via its UCAVs (be they controlled by Azeri or by Turkish operators), and in Karabakh Armenian air defense seems to be lacking, they have only brought down (confirmed) some smaller recon drones and a helicopter. Where Azerbaijan is lacking is on ground capability (note that almost all front-line footage is being released by Armenia, and shows Azeri attacks stalling), but in the air they seem to be dominating at the moment. Armenia also has to paint its loss of its Su-25 in the "best" light possible for them. Azerbaijan is the clear aggressor, and Turkish support is there, but as of now it is all indirect.

Escalation would favour Armenia because then they could use their Iskanders, which are better than what the Azeris have.

100x more likely that its for target shooting or getting lunch than for protecting against whatever wild bands of Azeri mad max extras are roaming the countryside

Not only that, but:

1) you wouldn't use a Smerch to target a packed-earth dam/reservoir (like the one at Mingachevir), its not going to do anything substantial
2) the tail of the rocket separates from the warhead/explosives part of the rocket, and doesn't land in the same place it was targeted
3) its literally being held up by a piece of wood because they made the hole too wide and not deep enough lmfao

I don't see why Azerbaijan has a strong motive to break the ceasefire (Armenia clearly doesn't). If even half of the claims are true, Azerbaijan has made huge gains compared to before. More than enough to parade all of this internally. Azerbaijan only gets stronger with time, and Armenia's position will only weaken. Aliyev knows he doesn't have to go for broke now.
