I saw that post. It went about how I expected. I also now know who big dong wanter is on fb which might be the first time that's been true in like, 5 or 6 years? I don't know. I added a bunch of AI people on there years ago without actually realizing who they were and have been wondering ever since.

I think my favorite weird question in the mass driving test is "when is it allowed to take a left turn on a red light?" And the follow-on question "what is the exception to this law?" Because we actually have both of these problems in many Mass towns and cities due to... An extreme lack of early road planning.

Ranzear posted:Washington has it too, when onto a one-way street, but I don't know what the exception would be. It's from a one-way onto a one-way, as far as I know. I may be wrong. The exception is "unless there's a sign saying not to." I can think of several intersections only a block or two apart in Worcester where you could run into each of these situations in turn. Interesting that it's in Washington too, I guess it'll feel like home.

The way I look at it, as of August 3, the billionaires (607 people) have raked in a total of 637 billion dollars during the pandemic. That's $1950 for every American. $4450 for every tax payer. Meanwhile the rest of us struggle. I'm ok with a tax rate plan that takes that kind of thing into account.

I used to respond to doxxing and death threats on IRC by pasting my address and phone number and telling people to call before coming over. No takers. I eventually stopped when I got married because I don't want to get my wife tangled up in my online bullshit if anyone actually shows up.

I thought it was due to the old name for the small hole in the city door that let one person through in a compromising position being the "needle". Either way, you aren't getting a camel through it. Rhyno posted:A guy who has been throwing literal tantrums about masks every few days at work just popped a positive test. They were going to suspended him for his attitude and now they can boot him until 7 days after he shows a negative test. Part of the problem is that people are treating 6 feet as the loving gold standard like people "built this house to code" when it's a bare minimum. And really doesn't apply inside. In shared indoor air spaces without a SIGNIFICANT number of air-changes per hour, the virus is essentially airborne, not droplet transfer, and lasts - airborne - for up to 4 to 6 hours according to some estimates. So if you have people in there for hours at a time, and they're wearing cloth and paper masks, and only doing that when they think someone who cares is watching, and don't know or care how to actually fit them effectively... Bleh. Good loving luck. I wear a p100 half face mask to go to home depot for this reason. And if I actually was going into a workplace every day for 8 hours I'd be wearing a PAPR or at least a full face respirator to do so.

I put a disposable mask over the vent when around other people or inside buildings I'm not the only occupant of for that exact reason. The earloops just go over the filter pods instead of my ears. At this point I'm exposed to other people about once every 1-3 weeks, generally when going to home depot or the gas station. Other than that it's home or the hangar.

I was able to get my current place without one because I basically paid a decent down payment for it and have been giving buttloads of money to home depot every month instead of a bank. It required serious sacrifices when it came to living standards however, especially pre-2016 or 2018. (We got a furnace I temporarily installed in 2016, and the heatpump/AC in 2018.)

Applebees Appetizer posted:I had commercial grade outdoor carpet installed on my covered porch floor, which is concrete so it has to be glued down. The guy installing it used a loving paint roller to apply the glue and I knew it needed to be spread out with a notched trowel. I questioned him and he insisted it was fine. I called the contractor (a major flooring company) and questioned it again. They assured me it was ok, that this "new glue" they have can be rolled out. So I thought ok, maybe I'm the idiot. And here people are wondering why I would rather learn a trade and buy all the tools and do it myself than pay some stupid fucklord to show up late, screw up, leave a mess and a bad job behind.
