It's a new month! And that means we need a new motif for our movies. December will almost certainly be Christmas movies, but there really aren't enough Thanksgiving pictures to fill 4 weekends. So what should we do for November? Ideas: Historical costume pieces? Nature documentaries? Animated features? Edit- I updated the OP, since that's where the ad lands. And we have a new psp-tv Channel: http://psp-tv.com/r/BYOBmovies BoldFrankensteinMir fucked around with this message at 23:16 on Nov 3, 2020

But Reefer Madness has sort of been riffed to death already (if you haven't seen it at all I just recommend checking out the Rifftrax of it, I mean we're all funny and all but come on, it's Mike Kevin and Bill we're talking about here). Instead, I propose... TONIGHT! Midnight GMT, at http://psp-tv.com/r/BYOBmovies join us for a showing of the 1949 classic anti-cannabis propaganda film, She Shoulda Said No! Similar to its 1930's predecessors Reefer Madness and Marihuana!, She Shoulda Said No! has a really bizarre and intricate hollywood backstory to it, because it stars Lila Leeds and is based on her actual high-profile arrest for possession, and was released under a bunch of titles including The Story of Lila Leeds and Her Exposé of the Marijuana Racket, and The Devil's Weed. It ironically features enough cigarette smoking to give you sympathetic asthma, and as far as I know there haven't been other high-profile riffs of it. But I could be wrong, so give me a heads-up if your favorite podcast has already been to this well, or whatever. See you tonight friends! Stay up or stay dumb (or both, I guess??)!

Next showing is Saturday November 14 at 4:00 PM PST/ 7:00 PM EST/ Midnight GMT Join us at PSP-TV for the 1936 anti-dope propaganda classic, Marihuana! (timg'd for explicit imagery) I've thought a lot about our last film, She Shoulda Said No, and I just get madder and madder. The obvious disinformation about substances aside, it was a true-life story about the actress playing herself, and she got third billing! And they gave her no redemption story, absolutely no sympathy as a character, they even muted her emotional final monologue and played a text scroll over it, what BS. I'm so horrified that Hollywood has been so crappy to ladies for so long. The historic record of it is just appalling from every angle.

Yeah, go for it, link any suggestions you have in this thread, and that goes for everyone. The biggest deals are it has to be on Youtube and not blocked in any regions, we have viewers all over. Any restrictions throw flags in psp-tv, so you can test videos there first if you want, that's what I do. Speaking of psp-tv I am still interested in alternatives to it, it's just what's worked so far but it'd be great if we could watch a wider selection & chat. So please, suggestions on this aspect of movie night too.

Probably, yeah. I don't know if I'm the person to host that, since I have iffy rural internet service. But I could give it a try. I imagine it's a violation of their user agreement and thereby might technically be but if a mod says stop we'll stop.

I hope everyone's having a nice holiday weekend! Tonight, at midnight GMT, join me at http://psp-tv.com/r/BYOBmovies for a very special presentation: Gamera vs Viras, or "DESTROY ALL PLANETS!" This is my favorite Gamera film, and I learned something about it today- although I knew it was not part of the official MST3K catalog, I did not know about the fan project MST3K Vs Gamera: Round 2. I haven't seen it though so, I guess if you wanted to impress people by studying up on pre-fab jokes, now would be your chance. Anybody who objects, I give you the next 6-ish hours to do so. I'm just looking forward to the outright goofiness of a giant squid kaiju that can barely move, its been many many years since I last saw this thing. See you there! And happy holiday-adjacent period to all!

Falling asleep during kaiju movies is perfectly acceptable and even sweet. I have fond memories of catching a significant other up to speed after she had drifted out of half of one with "Godzilla and King Ghidora are still fighting. That's... basically it" and she nodded and went right back to sleep. Good times.

Wednesday December 2 at 4:00 PM PST/ 7:00 PM EST/ Midnight GMT, join us at http://psp-tv.com/r/BYOBmovies for the start of our month-long Christmas movie This movie has a weird convoluted production history that gives it not one, not two, but THREE alternate titles! It has been released as "The Great Amandola" "Money Money Money", and "The Christmas Wish" as well, which are progressively vaguer and worse names for what is a bizarre little holiday story about community access to wealth, the morality of investment, and oh yeah squirrels. It's also made by George Pal of Puppetoon fame, so we'll probably a watch a couple of his historically significant short films too. See you there friends! And an obnoxiously early Happy Holidays to you all!

I will look into it, thanks! Edit- to be clear, it would make a great movie night, I just find it hilarious how much King hates it. Especially since it's not even the worst adaptation of his work (my bet for that would be The Langoliers, personally). BoldFrankensteinMir fucked around with this message at 20:35 on Nov 30, 2020

In a little less than an hour (midnight GMT), join me for another movie night at http://www.psp-tv.com/r/BYOBmovies! Much apologies but I have looked and could not find a copy of Maximum Overdrive that would sync- the only free versions on youtube are in a bunch of parts and as is often the case one or two of the parts are region protected, I have no clue why. So, if somebody has a link to a one-file upload or something that will work please let me know for next showing! Tonight instead we will be watching a copy of Laurel and Hardy in: March of the Wooden Soldiers! I love love love Laurel and Hardy and this is a really high production value film for them, so it should be enjoyable! Again my apologies no killer trucks, we'll try again on Wednesday. Tonight, at midnight GMT, join us at http://psp-tv.com/r/BYOBmovies for another Christmas classic: 1945's The Cheaters! I've never heard of this one before but it's got a very interesting history: for any of you 'yobbers who were with me for the Summer of Serials, this is a Republic Pictures film! A Christmas screwball comedy feature from the people who made Black Whip, Spy Smasher and Captain Marvel. It's a really weird outlier, and from what I'm reading it was a staple of late-night local TV for decades, and has been released as Mr. M and the Pigeons, The Amazing Mr. M, The Magnificent Mr. M, The Magnificent Rogue, and The Castaway. Huh. Plus cartoons and camaraderie! See you in five hours, friends!
