You unblink, and realize you're blind again. But gravitysight is still with you, and the rainbows staining the darkness makes you exhale. You relax to near-collapse, leaning on the wooden sword and oilstained shield. You shake your head to clear it, realizing how incredible a force there is gathered before you. Your magical reactor shielding flows back into cohesion, enwrapping your Lorded suit with a dance of powerful colors- gravity black, atomic green, nuclear red, cherenkov blue, wormhole white. It allows you to stand there, unharmed, your gilded blood boiling hot. Your little heart friend would have died instantly from this, but Red's quiet promise allows it to live, and keeps your heart beating strong against the immensity of what's been done. There's a strange sound. Charging noise, like two massive jet engines preparing an ultrasonic shot, your very atoms shivering with the desire to split. Something with enough punch to blow a Moloch clean in two, no matter how goddamn tough their armor-bodies are. Something that could make the Singer of Cadanza smirk with appreciation, make the Mouse of Sight squeak with insistence he could do better, make the Traitor scowl at how weak an imitation of the almighty SUN it is.

The Two Lords Traitorous Did Pray A Terror's Ritual Bewitched posted:

Red contains the Moloch Buster's overcharge.
Red exhausts more of her life and Lordly strength to empower her Lordly weapon beyond its limits.
Red attunes the Eye of the Sun to mathematically precise angles, gently relying on her smallest wood-growths to microincline the lens, surfing the tremendous fungal psychic connection to achieve utter synchronicity.
She inhales, and for once in her anxious life, she allows herself to stop thinking.

Burner has done the same, in gentle sunlit mimic of her another self, from once upon a time.
Each extend their arm and allow the auto-target to engage, and make the Lordly motion of inviting true annihilation upon the naked body of the new world.
But as each opens fire, they pour one last terrible augmentation into the desperate craft.

Confusion As a Natural State of Being
Is the damage counter stalling at 864000 intentional or a typo?

e-

No, I'm an idiot. There's two different beams.

e2-

Well, assuming the damage keeps getting doubled per reflection, it's already over 2^65. Depending on how the damage is stored, it's getting pretty close to either ticking over to +inf, having an integer overflow, or getting an error after running out the game's allotted memory space.

OST: You Brought Down The Sun

You wake up, the ultraradioactive haze fading away. Your vision clarifies into seeing the nuclear all-light fade. Red and Burner- they've walked together slowly and steadily, never deviating, until the two Eyes are carefully pressed together with the gigantism of nuclear power, now trapped in an infinite recursion between the perfect angles of the solar-black prisms. They seal it with sacrifice, their hands steadily clenching to fold the sharp and soft gold edges together, working circular while blooding it; they finally let go when the power prison floats of its own accord, spilling warm waves of wind and cosmic rays. You shuffle forward through the pudding-thick airs to get by Red. There's a strange darkness over everything, the great light from the open clouds only appearing in startling flickers. You look back and see all the other shades; they're moving very slowly, giving you time to talk with Red while Burner gathers up the broken parts of the two destroyed Moloch Busters.

Red looks proud, carefully brushing aside your hair. Her fingers linger for a moment on your headscar, before she leans down and speaks quietly. ("Good! The first part of the spell is done. See how she copied me? Now the trap and escape is set.") You swallow dryly, and Red gives you some of the essential water she collected from the Megalith lake. You sate yourself and get a second to clean your face, feeling much better. You ask- is that why the lasers were shot? ("Yeah. I'm sewing a needle through two ends of fabric that are close together. It's got to cinch, so I needed a huge amount of power to punch the needle through.") She adjusts the clasp on your blanket-cloak. You don't entirely understand, but it does feel a lot like gravity. This means you're safe now? To that, Red just slumps and hugs you. ("Yeah. It's done. Burner can't use nukes anymore. That power is sealed away; here she is with the proof.") You wipe your face with a shuddering sniff of relief that Burner has to fight fair, now. You felt so sick thinking about how helpless you were against that inevitable attack, with zero answer for it. The 5th Lord is holding the remains of the two Moloch Busters; Red nods, and they pick out the best pieces from the two, packing them together using the soft lined insides of the bulky case. Burner walks back and waits while Red fills your bag with the parts and other little gifts, before putting it back on you. Red touches your arm carefully. ("Look! See? The sword.")

The Fireslaying Sword posted:

This is a Nuclear Crisis...
Ashtheft starts to change-
But then, Red ties the White Belt to its hilt, and blesses the blade.
Ashtheft transforms.

You marvel at the blade unfolding with fractal flowers, and Red taps it with confidence. ("If anyone else ever uses a nuclear weapon, with this, you'll be safe. I promise.") You smile with relief while looking at Burner, who stands with clenched hands. Sky and Megalith both fleet in and out of gravity's sight, mushroom colors dominating the swirl of every pattern. You're walking by raw instinct alone. Red is there beside you, hiding the rapid dying of her body, as Burner fights to do the same with grace and the menace to challenge you. Just for a second more. Just long enough to achieve the perfect improbable timing. You feel yourself bending in strange ways, bones made of strange clays.

You're spilled on the scorched grasses, staring absently at the blood and burnscars all over you. The clouds are gone. The SUN is still at zenith, because the world has not left noon this entire time. You're standing up and falling over, numb to pain, watching with dry eyes. Everyone at Home is outside. They're standing, facing the SUN. Their eyes are struggled shut, mouths rictus in pain, tingling with mushroom high. They want nothing more than to behold, but Teal gave her word and let them all be spared. They would not be consumed by the gospel. The other dryads... they had released those they had attacked, and left to mourn on the peak of Home's hill. Their woodwind sound haunts over the all-bright village, mingled with the hushed pained whispers of collective fear. You collapse over again and blink a few times, coughing blistered blood. Oh. You think you're almost blind, actually. But something Dark gentles your scorched sight, allowing you to see the patterns of gravity. You lie there near death, and then roll over to look towards the council church's door, where someone is shouting. It's Mom. She's screaming something and crying. She's pointing at you, and someone is limping your way. It's Miss Crocell, shambling towards you with wilted mosses and a haunted slack-jaw, stiffly fighting the urge to mourn upon the SUN; instead she drags you towards the safety of the church.

You look at the SUN.
You blink. Ouch.
You look away and feel nothing for its warm kissing promise.
You care nothing for the allure of LIFE ETERNAL .

You blink. Ouch. The flickering light is intense and rough. You stand up much easier now, strength returned to your legs. You can think clearly.

You approach the 5th Lord slowly. Your shield is raised in guard, your Redbrandt blade angled strangely, the tip aimed for the Sunburner dryad. You've forgotten all anxiety, all confusion and distraction. Something cinches your neurons to a clean orderly path, and you spark it with simple need; kill Burner, and then escape with Red's help. You're not thinking of Bleeder's gruesome end, or how weakly Red stumbles behind you, or how the two mirror-shields are starting to gently drip gold and liquid glass from heating up. No distractions make it to your cranium. But neither do you gloat, or warm yourself with sadism and terror like you did the 7th Lord. It's become abstracted. A bodily function. Another Camp activity; destroy the Nuclear Threat. You heft the blade, surprised at its light weight, as easy to glide as a toy. Burner leans back unsteadily, still fooling you with her sinister pose. You don't question why she isn't dancing with the fury of fire, or casting her spells not sealed by Red. You hold up the sword, its tip a fade from wood to golden gemstone, sharp and bright. With its sharpness, you will not split the atom, but seal it. You move sudden. You speak a Name, before you strike.

E I R I C A

Gandiva and Cayver Cauvay were the only ones close enough to perceive it. They were between, cresting a wave of the collapse, Gandiva's eyes burning from the rapidity of the flickering lights. Both moved through the liquid chronology, sloshing in slow motion. Everyone else was frozen from their perspective, both behind and ahead; when the old red ogre spoke, his voice seemed to come from below the world. "She's done it. We're here. We're looking Behind; we're going Back." The 8th Lord stopped moving; not just because of the ogre's words, but because the dead Matriarchs were alive. He had chanced a look back through the flickering dark, and there they stood; the Solar Flare and the wraith in her shape, alive and whole, in poses of advancing like the others. He blinked, and shifted his head slightly; the world flickered again, and they were back down dead. But he persisted and moved about, and again his eyes danced painfully with light and black, but he could see it true; the slain Matriarchs, shifting between states of life and death, more and more towards alive the closer he stepped closer to the zenith. As soon as he had this revelation, the Fireblind Seer laughed and spoke, "See her clever? Sacrifice for power, only to see the chaos of what she's done bring them back to whole. This is her gamble, wise man! This is how she fulfills the Traitor: she betrays the Island!" He spat the words as he swam through the light, pointing ahead for the Archer to witness. There, where the Shadow had stabbed Burner through the heart, the blade continuing on to crack open the nuclear orb behind her. The red shade stood behind the Shadow, with arms outstretched. The explosion of the shattered orb did not move; it remained frozen in criticality. The old ogre swam on, grabbing Gandiva's hand to pull him. The 8th Lord opened his eyes wide as the world began to fractal and infinitely expand away in their approach, and like a popout flipbook, he could make out the silhouette motions of what had happened.

See, there? The Shadow, having slain the 5th Lord.
The red shade, slumped over in death, clinging to them.
The broken orb, not exploding out because of a spell barely holding it in place.
The Shadow, now changing. Opening. Unfolding. Unturning. Peeling. Like a glove.

You stare at Burner's corpse. The slaying sword is drawn out, the sunflowers now wilted dead from the effort. You put it away, absently noting the fatal crack in the reflecting shields, and frown down at the body. Her sap-like blood stains her ragged robes, and you look back at Red, her hand on your shoulder in comfort. You didn't like killing her. But it's done. Something has to happen next, but before it does, your Counselor has to speak with you.

("Moonlight... the spell is going to work, but I've got bad news.")

Your head droops, but you nod. You expect bad news. Always. Red hugs you from behind, her near-dead body hanging on tight with the last spark of nuclear light. ("Do you remember when you won the Camp? How there was that holy place with every Camper ready to celebrate together?") You smile with tears; of course you do. ("That's why I cast this spell and took Burner's power. Not just to defeat her; it's so I can find the way to take us back there. It's going to cause a lot of bad stuff to happen, but it HAS to be done.") You find yourself sinking to your knees in the hug, fading into full ego death. But you hold on enough to beg; what's the bad news? ("...I have to go be there. In that bright place. So the spell can work. I- I have to go, Moonlight. I'll be with you through the magic, but I can't be here with you to help anymore.") You inhale slowly, trying to not break down. You BEG; you're going to see her again, then? You can feel Red's smile, as her soul starts to entangle with yours. ("Yeah. Once you beat every other Lord, I'll have finished the spell, and you'll finally be able to go to the celebration. With everyone.") You inhale, and swallow. You feel her sword in your hand. Her shield in the other. The feather around your neck. Her blanket about your back. You still don't understand what a is, but in this moment, you know you have to be a for your Counselor. You have to nod bravely and accept it. You face the SUN, and smile. Red's voice begins to fade out, a flower wilting as the night falls down;

("...I'm proud of you...I'm sorry for what Blue will do...")

Hibakujumoku

Gandiva watches, as the wave crashes and collapses, and probability rages without the limiters of destiny. He watches you open, open, open like a glove, like a glove - open and take and open and take; twofold.
He watches the SUN come down. He watches the point of infinite recursive nuclear light expand.
But annihilation does not come. Cayver Cauvay stands with his arms; with his arms outstretched.
His voice comes from above the world.

Someone linked to the wikipedia article on it earlier, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibakujumoku, but the gist is it's the plants that survived the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki where other structures didn't. Pretty appropriate for being at the epicenter of uh, that much nuclear.

Hibakujumoku was also the name of the special ability that we got, which said something like "Just once."

I interpreted it to be a 'one time only, nullify all Nuclear damage from an attack' or something, which in this case allowed Tyrant-Child to survive the approximately infinite damage generated by the twin Eyes of the Sun.

Psh, clearly the intended solution by the programmers was to use the Headbutt command on the miniature sun, and reduce the infinite damage down to 1.
