Yeah, "The Snyder Cut", it turns out, was a myth and a marketing ploy. What the people who were clamoring for it are getting is going to be "The Snyder Version". And it is still going to be an absolute disaster because its baseline factor is one Zachary Snyder.

Matt Ryan was good as well. If it had been on a cable network instead of NBC it might still be going.

Meanwhile, Legends of Tomorrow fished Constantine out of the TV abyss and made him a main character years ago and it's been great. Matt Ryan really kills it as Jonny C. It also wrapped up all of NBC Constantine's leftover plot threads from when it was canceled.

I do like the film version, mainly as it gives the Hammond character a sliver of Frankenstein esque tragedy. It still manages to bring in the corporate nobhead character with Gennaro, who in the book is far more decent. The cruelty has always been there, but yes was definently ramped up for the sequels. Nedry's death for example was drawn out but he was a somewhat villainous character, Eddie Carr and Secretary lady were innocent. I didn't mind the secretary lady death too much as it fit with the film's anarchic tone. The first three JP films set things out in a realistic, "what if this were to happen" kind of way with the dinosaurs portrayed like real animals. The JW films embrace camp and eccentricity and the dinosaurs come off as movie monsters and are far more anthropomorphic. It is a different take, probably an inferior one, but I enjoyed both for what they were.

The problem with MOS is it doesn't show the consequences. The film ends with a happy "well done Superman" ending despite the mass destruction and wants to pretend all those people didn't die, Clark certainly doesn't acknowledge any if the deaths. It is very much not interested at all in examining the human cost, which makes it come off as quite shallow in its destruction.

Batman v. Superman does a great job of taking Man of Steel to task for its horrifying climax and showing what a disinterested, irresponsible sociopath Snyder's Superman is all without saying barely a word... and then it devolves into being Batman v. Superman, but still.

Limited options. Doug got popular because he was basically one of three people doing what he did at the time he was first doing it, the other two being Spoony and James Rolfe, and the three of them basically settled the unexplored frontier. In short order, more people flooded into the market they'd created and quickly starting doing things better than them and evolving the whole atmosphere around them.

Doug stagnated and was left in the dust (artistically, I mean, he's still a stupid big draw for some reason), Noah buckled under the pressure, had a meltdown and left the game for good, and James realized the times were a changing and tried his best to change with them.

If you liked The Nostalgia Critic 10 years ago, I don't think anyone would blame you. If you liked The Nostalgia Critic 5 years ago, people would probably look at you a little sus, but not really hold it against you. If you like The Nostalgia Critic today, then you're a lost goddamn cause.
