I think Vandy is still playing with like 50 scholarship players right now because of COVID too, right? It seems like it's been mostly ignored because, hey, Vandy stinks anyway. The NFL set such a low bar for handling COVID and college football is still sailing under it comfortably. Big Ten starting right back up in the middle of one of the biggest spikes of the whole pandemic is objectively insane but it's getting a fraction of the discussion and criticism that deciding not to play did.

But Danny Kanell told me it’s a great success because most games have been played and nobody has died!

The offensive line is atrocious. Seven turnovers (especially five lost fumbles) is hard to replicate though. Lombardi looked okay but way too focused on Jayden Reed and he threw a terrible pick where there was a miscommunication on the route. Defense was suboptimal but considering the seven turnovers they did okay. We will probably lose by 40 to Michigan but I am not about to ring the 0-8 bell yet or anything like that.

If they continue to play and be coached like they did, it won't matter how many yards they can put up. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised the rest of this season (if it continues to happen for some reason) but they looked like dogshit.

Mertz tested positive with an antigen test, which are loving trash. If teams are serious about daily testing they need to nut up with PCR. Big schools have the means to hire techs and put it together themselves.

e: Honestly this is all such a clusterfuck. No one is going to get NP swabbed daily for PCR, and the antigen test isn't going to keep anyone safe. Daily antigen testing is just some bare minimum bullshit to keep the general public out of your hair and pretend everything is safe. Playing sports right now is so blatantly irresponsible.

Returner Shaun Shivers hesitated on the decision to catch it or not and, attempting to get out of the way at the last second, clearly touched the ball with his pinky before referees signaled touchback as Ole Miss fell on it in the end zone.

Even if he didn't touch it if the ball hits the ground outside the endzone and rolls in it's a live ball. Unless that rule is inexplicably different in college. It happened to in the NFL a few years ago and it was hilarious.

I'm not too too worried. It was the perfect trifecta: Franklin having to deal with winning a game in the last three minutes, Indiana, and a road game at Indiana. All three have been hairy experiences in the last few years.

I suspect that Indiana would be a ten win team in a normal year.

I'm pretty sure it's each school doing their own thing. I know Illinois has their own aggressive testing protocol. At one point something like 2% of tests nationwide were being done at Illinois.

Now as to the type of test they're doing there I'm not sure honestly.
