Cubs will probably do nothing, idk what the plan is going forward. Kinda seems like they might just give up and start over. Or do the usual and hope everything turns around this next year and sign a handful of aging veterans who will get 50 PAs each.

One thing that really stood out about the Cubs offense this year was just how bad they were at hitting high velocity fastballs. They could beat up middling to bad teams that didn't have a lot of pitching depth but as soon as they saw someone throwing 95+ they really struggled.

I wonder if it's been an ongoing issue that held over from the Maddon years. He was pretty lax about enforcing BP and guys getting to the field early and I wonder if the Cubs offensive decline can be attributed to a lack of consistently seeing high velocity when training.

No, but usually to simulate high velocity you throw BP from a very close distance. I of course can't say what the issue is but the Cubs really poor hitting versus velocity could be attributed to lax training discipline over the years.

If you can swing a bat faster because youre stronger and less injury prone than you will also hit the ball harder and hitting the ball harder results in higher batting averages even if you don't hit more homeruns.

There's a lot of benefits to steroids beyond hitting monster homeruns. Having a faster bat speed allows you to see a pitch longer, that alone is a big benefit.

A coupe of years ago I played something like 75 games across 3 different rec leagues in one season. It was brutal. Obviously that's nothing compared to a full major league season and I'm not in nearly as good shape as an MLB player but by midway thru that summer I was just constantly sore and something was hurting every game. Feeling recovered is a big advantage in a long season.

I imagine part of it is they don't want to compete against themselves for ticket/concession money. The price of MLB games today makes seeing a AAA team with near MLB quality baseball for a fraction of the cost a pretty attractive alternative.
