2.5. He's a center right president coming into a right wing senate that will obstruct everything and he will not use executive order to do anything of note for the people. Trump will run again in 2024 and beat him. At least for four years we won't have a president telling Nazis to "stand by" though.

Majorian posted:The polls turned out to be absurdly wrong, though. Biden barely squeaked out a win. Without COVID, it wouldn't have been close - Trump would have skated to reelection. To add to this and paste a previous post of mine: punk rebel ecks posted:It took the literal moving of heaven and earth to elect Biden:

mobby_6kl posted:Votes are still coming in so it probably won't be as close as it seemed but it's still absurd. With the sole exception of California, all states have 99%+ of their votes in. Popular vote wise the difference will be at most a bit over 3% (a competitive presidential race), electorally the difference was won by 100,000 votes (skin of their teeth). It was a nail-biting election no matter how you look at it.

Hitler could have absolutely rose to power if Germany never lost a world war and entered the worst depression in the world, you just never know!Majorian posted:Ehhhh, but few elected incumbents all over the world mishandled COVID as catastrophically as Trump did. Parties that handled COVID badly got the boot. Those that didn't were reelected.

Fojar38 posted:I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but yes you really can't ever know. This is a counterfactual and while it might be fun for writing historical fanfiction it's a useless line of thought for any serious historical analysis. It's true that "you can never know" but at some point you have to connect the dots, especially when they are giant and are in a straight line. Trump's popularity fell substantially during the COVID crisis and even after that he barely lost by a razor's edge.
