Update 21

You move to cell F3: Boulder Bend. Music

You continue East along the narrowing strip of grass between the cliffs and the fuming pits, wondering which side will win out eventually. It turns out to be the cliffs, as the the pits finally start curving away to the North, and the path widens near a series of small overhangs.

A new obstacle presents itself, however: a rushing river bend that only curves away from the cliff's edge at the last possible moment, and from the sound and speed of the rapids you can guess eventually goes over, somewhere East of here. But your view and path to the East are further blocked, by a large group of boulders that have been pushed right up to the edge of the cliff. You marvel at the precariousness of these boulders for a moment, before a detail of their surface catches your eye.

On the Western faces of two of the larger boulders, a pair of yellow-green splotches are squirming rhythmically, undulating with the special kind of fascinating energy the universe seems to have reserved for vivid green goos especially. And, although you have yet to investigate closer, they both suddenly think out to you.

"Action!" think-shouts the first splotch, in what your mind vaguely makes out to be a chorus of tiny minds in unison. "Adventure! Mayhem! Thrills!"

"Mystery!" thought-casts the second splotch, with a little less explosive energy but a little more dramatic flair. "Intrigue! Atmosphere! Romance!"

As the fuming pits recede to the North a safe-looking path does continue to ascend, on this side of the river at least. However you can just feel that you are near the tree line, and will not be able to plant yourself to eat starlight at any higher altitudes. You wriggle your flagella underground for a moment and grab a quick snack while you're here, just in case.

Your path to the East is blocked by both a rushing river and a field of boulders. The two choruses of tiny thoughts continue to try to out-mind-shout each other from some of the green-splattered boulders, though you have no clue what they actually mean by their exclamations.

To the South are the cliffs, a nasty drop and then the forest below. On your approach you could make out what looked like some kind of white boulder partway down the cliff face, but by the time you were closer to that part of the cliff you could no longer see down it. You can't make out any details without taking the risk of approaching the edge and looking directly down it.

To the West the narrow path between cliffs and pits slopes back down to places you've been before. And some you haven't!

You check your itinerary again, and your inventory, which you then remember is empty. So really just your itinerary.

As you approach the splotches on the boulders you realize they're not exactly what you thought- unlike a bufomyx or a mogooger these wriggling masses are not truly gelatinous, they're more nubby and textured, with bright yellow-green mushrooms erupting in a horizontal line across the middle of each. You realize on closer inspection that what you're looking at isn't a slime, a vegetable or even just a fungus, but probably some kind of combination of all three. Perhaps the most reasonable way to look at them is as fungi with plants and slime along for the ride. One might even liken it to a tiny community!

You miss a step as the lines of mushrooms suddenly part to meet you, swaying like long luxurious eyelashes around a gigantic eyeball-like growth inflating in the middle of each splotch. Two pupil-esque chemical swirls now stare directly down at you. The dueling choruses of tiny thoughts perk up even more now:

"Heart-pounding adventure that will leave you spellbound!!!"

"Mind-bending mysteries that will wow and amaze you!!!"

Finally you realize just what these things are: Lime Acmonidioids, cyclops-faced hive-mind fungi, though really they're better described as fungi with some symbiotic bacteria and microscopic vegetation mixed in. Thoroughly filthy fungi, barking advertisements at you from their precarious perches.

There's something mesmerizing about the acmonidioids' quivering stares, but you can't help but feel like the two eyes are not out to cooperate with each other. In fact they seem downright competitive in their calls for your attention. These creatures may be little symbiotic colonies but they seem pretty desperate for you to engage with one and not the other. And one of those hypnotic gazes sure would be nice to just stare at for a while before you move on... but which?

Is anyone else worried now with the word hypnotize being thrown around engaging with one of these is a trap? My lizard brain is saying get out of here. My primate brain is saying leave no NPC unspoken to.

This CYOA is extremely my poo poo, thank you for running it.

Also BoldFrankensteinMir can I request a shot of the full grid? Sort of like in the OP but with all of our revealed tiles?

The polls are closed!

You're definitely going to keep climbing to the North, but, there's just something so captivating about the intrigue-advertising acmonidioid. Surely you have a few more moments to spend staring at the intricate patterns dancing across their bubble-eye...
