My wife was away last week (she is vegetarian) so I opened it for my son and me. I used the fat to roast the potatoes in and my god, it was good. There was a LOT of fat in the tin, so I poured it into the jar for more future non-veg cooking. It seemed a shame to waste. I particularly hate wasting animal products.

If severed at the same time, like cooking at home, does anyone else eat the salad last? Like lets say a pasta dish with garlic bread and a side salad. I'll take occasional bites during the entree, but always finish the salad last.

Salad first, in an attempt to keep salad accoutrements and stray wisps of lettuce from getting in every other bit of the dish. if they're separate plates then I am at the whim of my fickle heart.

Salad last. It doesn’t go cold and feels good to have freshness after.

Ideally a salad comes out first, is eaten, then main is served. If they come out at the same time, okay, I can understand going back and forth between the two. But to purposefully save the salad until the main is completed? Truly psychopath behavior. Should be on a watchlist.

Been kind of reconnecting with meatloaf lately. I've always thought of it as a really utilitarian food. Something I'll eat and make sometimes but I'd be hard pressed to even call it good. But the last time I made it, it came out so drat good I kind of want to start making it on the reg. Really if you can get the flavor and texture right it's so good. It's just really easy to make a bad meatloaf I think.

I'll eat the salad first if it's all on the same plate, just to get it out of the way and in its best condition before it gets warm via proximity to hot food. Tangentially I really love a hot protein served on a cold salad. One of my favorite weeknight meals is chicken tenders with a drizzle of ranch, served on lettuce tossed in vinegar or lemon juice with crunchy raw veg (cucumbers, carrots, radishes, whatever I have). Really satisfying and comes together fast.
