I'm an indiosyncratic player; I always take luck, even in vanilla, unless i have a very specific reason not to, and I've literally never taken drain scales once, but I take death/sloth/turmoil very liberally and encourage others to do the same.

Luck is especially useful for us in this case because most low-impact positive luck events give you handfuls of random gems. There are some nations where consistent handfuls of random gems end up being very useful; kailasa is one such nation. Especially given how (spoilers, I guess) low-gem-income this map turns out to be, the constant trickle of gems from positive events ends up being very important.

the other thing about luck is: it's fun, and good for one's irl morale. it's much more fun to log on every day or whatever and see that you got some free labs or whatever than to see that you've got a bunch of indie attack event headaches to worry about. managing one's irl morale is one of the most important parts of dominions play, in the long term.

that and "the one-game policy" keep me on an even keel even when like i had to unexpectedly move out of my apartment in ten days in the middle of this game, etc.

dominions games routinely last for months so you want to plan for the long haul.

hmmm. no fort storm report. what happened there?

ah. looks like i....forgot to click the "storm fort", command, last turn. i've had a lot going on irl, okay, sue me. whatever we'll do it this turn.

our dirt-cheap mercs seized some territory. looks like we were right about ubar moving his camels away.

found some magic sites.

huh, pretty nice. let's look at the mage.

ah, he sucks. well, he'd be nice if we had no nature access, but we do, so.

earth and astral are our main gem needs so this is good, for us.

ulm and sauro both claimed thrones this turn. ulm stole his from ubar. note the throne values and the number of throne points required for the win.

tien chi knocked over ubar's cap. let's take a look.

tc sends his footmen to take the brunt, interesting strat.

when his sacreds finally arrive it's murdertime.

Ubar is supremely dead at this point, we'll see if we can't scavenge out the remnants.

Meanwhile, just east of the above screenshot, we notice something interesting.

Lanka's cap looks like it's....besieged by yomi? weird.

we reach out.

talking to yomi:
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: dude yomi
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: are you
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: sieging lanka's cap????
[3:27 PM] Arcvasti: yes
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: what's the story there
[3:27 PM] Arcvasti: I attacked lanka with a big pile of demons
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: :wow:
[3:28 PM] Arcvasti: we haven't had any real fights yet really
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: seems like you have nothing else in his cap circle so
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: like
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: how did you get there
[3:28 PM] Arcvasti: I do have something in their cap circle
[3:28 PM] Arcvasti: I had to take a roundabout route because I didn't notice there was a river
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: is it a lake
[3:29 PM] filthincarnate: oh wait nvm i see it now
[3:29 PM] filthincarnate: you must have come via 16
[3:29 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[3:30 PM] filthincarnate: luckdemons, huh
[3:30 PM] filthincarnate: how are you liking them
[3:30 PM] Arcvasti: they seem to be doing pretty well so far
[3:30 PM] Arcvasti: but like two or three die every turn no matter what, and they're also racking up afflictions pretty fast

huh.

anyway.

if people don't bid on mercs their prices gradually go down, and nobody else seems to be hiring mercs for some reason, so we're hiring all of them for pennies on the dollar.

seems like Ubar-war is wrapping up for us. we're unlikely to get the cap with both tien chi and ulm in position. time to look toward the future.

talking to ermor:
3:37 PM] filthincarnate: but anyway where do we stand re: ermor
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: i mean
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: ulm
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: you're ermor
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: i'm tried
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: tired*
[3:37 PM] weedzmin: i am moving at ulm this turn
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: kk, where are you coming from
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: moving that big stack out of your cap and toward his?
[3:38 PM] weedzmin: both from my cap and on my south end
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[3:39 PM] filthincarnate: i'm marching a stack from my cap and also gonna repurpose the ubar stack but they're both gonna have to walk so it'll be a minute
[3:40 PM] filthincarnate: lmk if i can be of assistance in the meantime, happy hunting
3:40 PM] weedzmin: I don't know where all their guys are at the forts look mostly empty except for the one by ermor
[3:41 PM] filthincarnate: the one in 175 has some dudes in it but yeah
[3:41 PM] filthincarnate: i think he's extremely out of position
[3:41 PM] filthincarnate: to fight you

talking to lanka:
3:24 PM] filthincarnate: comrade lanka
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: greetings
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: your kailasan cousins (and now neighbors!) offer you homage
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: also:
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: is uhhhh yomi sieging your cap????
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: what's up there
[3:34 PM] Tekk: He sent his entire army (pretty much) staright to my cap
[3:34 PM] Tekk: We will have a big fight shortly and see whose bless wins
[3:34 PM] filthincarnate: yeah his seems weird
[3:34 PM] filthincarnate: it's just luck right
[3:35 PM] filthincarnate: what've you got lined up
[3:35 PM] filthincarnate: mind if i ask
[3:35 PM] Tekk: one sec
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: kk
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: btw if you have any extra dudes hanging around ubar's cap is currently besieged by tien chi and he's basically dead
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: so ubar provs are free atm
[3:48 PM] Tekk: I do have some more stuff but most of it is going to do or die vs the Yomi horde
[3:48 PM] Tekk: If I lose im done anyway - if I win I think hes probably done also
[3:50 PM] Tekk:

[3:50 PM] Tekk: He has a 3rd DaiO ariving this turn
[3:51 PM] Tekk: So 100 Sacreds 150 chaff and a few mages
[3:51 PM] filthincarnate: hahaha
[3:51 PM] filthincarnate: flagellants
[3:51 PM] filthincarnate: what's your bless/research
[3:51 PM] Tekk: well with a luck bless they are better chaff
[3:51 PM] filthincarnate: ya i can see them being better withluck
[3:51 PM] Tekk: I think I should win but not entirely sure
M] Tekk: As long as you are not going to tell him :p only so its less embarrasing when he pulls some cat out of the bag and kills me
[3:53 PM] filthincarnate: i won't gently caress you over
[3:53 PM] filthincarnate: i have Honor
3:53 PM] Tekk: I have about 100 sacreds also mainly the bigger demons and a few monkeys, with a regen / bloodbond bless
[3:54 PM] Tekk: He is skellie spamming - so will I be - so who knows :p
[3:54 PM] Tekk: I have my SC expander there also - anyway will be fun fight regardless
[3:54 PM] filthincarnate: i sincerely wish you luck
[3:54 PM] Tekk: But Arc tends to have nasty surprises so im expectiing something horrible :p
[3:54 PM] filthincarnate: people say jbbm yomi is op
[3:54 PM] Tekk: I think its good
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: has he cracked your cap yet
[3:55 PM] Tekk: and Lanka an obvious target
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: oh right scales
[3:55 PM] Tekk: No - and may not nbext turn
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: well i hope you win
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: personally
[3:55 PM] Tekk: hahah
[3:55 PM] Tekk: so do i
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: :men_with_bunny_ears_partying:
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: us
3:55 PM] filthincarnate: i would wait yes
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: you could ping him in the meantime
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: with scouts or something
[3:56 PM] Tekk: and he has to sit around twiddling his thumbs
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: and get a sense for his battle plan yes
[3:56 PM] Tekk: I have a lot of crappy mages
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: defender's advantage, i'd use it as best you cna
[3:56 PM] Tekk: yes
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: what are they, b1s?
[3:56 PM] Tekk: yes
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: do you have summon imps
[3:56 PM] Tekk: yes
[3:56 PM] Tekk: I shall be using that anyway
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: do you have a pile of bloodslaves
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: because summon imps is a deeply underrated spell
[3:56 PM] Tekk: enough for one big battle but not more
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: that's all you need my man
[3:57 PM] Tekk: heres hoping
3:57 PM] Tekk: I have one more devious trick but its long odds it wont work be funny if it does tho
[3:57 PM] filthincarnate: keep me posted
[3:57 PM] Tekk: Will do
[3:57 PM] filthincarnate:

*****editor's note: i like tekk. doesn't mean i won't slit his throat tho*****

Lanka and i talk some more and I agree to sell him some equipment for his upcoming rumble with yomi. our ideal outcome is both of them fight for a long time and hurt each other very badly, so propping up whoever seems to be losing is in our long-term best interest. and also we can unload some event trash and sell forged items at a markup: all in all, trading partnerships are good for us. :)

we sell yomi our flambeau we would never use anyway, and also we agree to forge him some equipment, you'll see in forthcoming turns.

talking to ramc:

[4:29 PM] filthincarnate: unexpectedly

[4:29 PM] filthincarnate: luck
[4:29 PM] filthincarnate: lanka's bless:
[4:29 PM] filthincarnate: blood bond/regen
[4:30 PM] filthincarnate: they have yet to actually fight
[4:30 PM] filthincarnate: i want yomi to lose because they're arcvasti, the sassy newbie
[4:30 PM] filthincarnate: but if lanka loses i can scoop up his stuff
[4:32 PM] Ramc: win-win

Yomi has a variety of Sacred summons that synergize well with Luck. Shikome are naked berserker demon women with 2 magical attacks whose big downside is being kind of a glass cannon. There are 2 types of Tengu to summon, which are basically a human samurai guy with a katana and wearing clothes, who can hurl a single lighting bolt each battle but then have to fly into melee combat to continue fighting. Again, these guys are pretty OK except they die in droves.

Luck helps you again with your cap only Dai Oni mega mages. Luck is a great buff to have on guys you'll probably use to do some raiding or maybe thug out for battles.

e: oh if you don't know what Luck does: a unit (not undead tho) buffed with Luck has a 75% chance to ignore a killing blow in battle. This buff is maximally useful on sacreds that don't have great defenses and subsequently will be receiving killing blows all the time.

ALL PART OF MY BRILLIANT STRATEGY!
I confess when I last played Yomi I didn't focus much on a bless, worked pretty well for me until two nations came for me at once(after surviving the FIRST time two nations came for me at once and I beat one so hard he gave up on the game) with some ownage on their minds.

Weird owl has life all figured out
t25

an eventful turn.

now that our yogi factories are online our research continues to improve. research is extremely important long-term, which is why messy early wars can be so ruinous. this war has already gone so badly for ubar that in the long run it will certainly be game-losing, even if he manages to drag it out, because it's stunted his ability to recruit mages and research with them.

the situation in ubar continues to develop. we successfully stormed his fort and are using mercs to roll up his territory, but he successfully broke tc's cap siege this turn.

a massacre, expensive on both sides. let's watch.

here's tc's army, but....huh. those demons of heavenly rivers are facing the wrong way?

ah, they're routing. looks like ubar must have successfully assassinated tc's magic leader, i.e. the same thing he tried (and failed) to do vs us.

we get our first look at ubar's god, too. here he is, decked out in trinket-level gear.

this is an unironically formidable force.

falcons and arrows soften up tc's army, which, without its heavenly river demon backbone, is much less scary.

still, tc's nobles fight bravely, inflicting significant casualties.

but in the end ubar's forces are too much.

anyway what else is on

found a magic site, pretty good.

anyway let's look at that fort storm of ours

minor casualties. no big deal tho.

we sprint forward immediately. fort province defense is those arrow guys on the walls.

some of our guys get set on fire. we still win tho, no biggie.

here we come, up the ladder, swords a-swingin'

anyway what else is on

lanka is pinging yomi's stack, let's take a look.

here comes yomi.

these chicks are scary man. berserker +4, and there's a lot of them.

here are some oni.

lil baby oni. these guys are actually much better than they look.

big oni. i know arcvasti loves these guys, he's talked about it.

these guys are funny, yomi must have gotten a bunch from a random event.

the whole blessing is just luck. unusual.

lanka says he has a plan for this so i guess we'll see.

random events:

more markata, we'll find a use for them.

luck scales vindicated once again, despite the natterings of naysayers.

let's check in with our friends and neighbors.

talking to ermor:
5:07 PM] filthincarnate: okay question
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: so
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: ubar just broke tc's siege
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: are you over the border yet
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: re ermor
[5:08 PM] weedzmin: if you mean ulm, yes
[5:09 PM] weedzmin: i saw the ubar fight, not sure what happened there. TC had their demons scripted to retreat immediately, it looked like?
[5:09 PM] weedzmin: very weird
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate: no
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate: what happened was:
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate: ubar assassinated tc's magic leader
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate:
if you mean ulm, yes
right yes sorry
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate: i know who you are, i'm just not good at these mushy names
[5:13 PM] weedzmin: ulmor, erm, etc
[5:13 PM] weedzmin: i thought masters of the dead had magic leadership but i guess not, that's pretty funny
[5:13 PM] filthincarnate: they can lead the dead
[5:20 PM] filthincarnate: hmm well ideal situation for i think both of us is ulm attacks ubar's cap with his throne stack
[5:21 PM] weedzmin: he will probably not do that since i'm in his cap circle
[5:23 PM] filthincarnate: lam
[5:23 PM] filthincarnate: e
[5:23 PM] filthincarnate: ubar might rampage now, hmmm

looks like ermor's not lying re: being in ulm's cap circle. remember how i said this was a knife fight, well, it is.

well poo poo, idk what's gonna happen to ubar now.

talking to ramc:
[4:53 PM] filthincarnate: eventful turn
[4:53 PM] filthincarnate: check it
[4:57 PM] Ramc: guessing the guy with magic leader for TC got assassin'd
[4:57 PM] filthincarnate: ooooooooooooh
[4:57 PM] filthincarnate: makes sense
****editor's note: ramc was the one who figured it out, these turn reports are cobbled together out of order, sue me*****
[4:59 PM] Ramc: nice free troops
[4:59 PM] Ramc: looks like naba cap army is probably ulms problem
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: well
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: ermor is invading ulm
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: like rn
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: :grimacing:
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: i'm supposed to join in at some pont
[5:07 PM] Ramc: oh boy
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: it's a mess
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: yes
:07 PM] filthincarnate: yes
[5:34 PM] filthincarnate: hmmm so
[5:34 PM] filthincarnate: do i make diplomatic contact with ubar
[5:34 PM] filthincarnate: or what
[5:39 PM] filthincarnate: well okay so here's my main question rn
[5:39 PM] filthincarnate: i have 25 cap-only sacreds here
[5:39 PM] filthincarnate: do i move them north, toward ubar
[5:39 PM] filthincarnate: or south, toward ulm
[5:43 PM] filthincarnate: i guess toward ubar
[5:43 PM] filthincarnate: i want the cap, in the end, so

talking to ulm:
[5:30 PM] filthincarnate: ooh uh you may want to check this turn
[5:32 PM] filthincarnate: ermor's making moves
[6:47 PM] VendoViper: fukin pricks
[7:36 PM] filthincarnate: what's the story
[7:36 PM] filthincarnate: i can't see it very well
[7:36 PM] VendoViper: He took 3 provs of Pd, no real damage
[7:37 PM] VendoViper: And since I’ve taken no losses to ubar....
[7:37 PM] filthincarnate: yeah you're pretty meaty rn
[7:37 PM] VendoViper: It’s just a matter of matching his moves
[7:37 PM] filthincarnate: mmm
[7:37 PM] filthincarnate: what's he fielding?
[7:40 PM] VendoViper: Haven’t had a chance to look close
[7:40 PM] VendoViper: But sacreds and hastati
[7:40 PM] VendoViper: In three groups
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: oh the cav sacreds?
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: jbrere buffed those
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: i think
[7:41 PM] VendoViper: I wish I had a better thug chassis but some conans are going to have to step up to raid
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: hmmm does this change your plans re: ubar
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: i'm trying to figure out what to do if ubar lunges
[7:47 PM] VendoViper: Retreat to fight ermor
[7:48 PM] filthincarnate: makes sense
[7:48 PM] filthincarnate: hmmm
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: well i....guess i can take ubar?
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: if it comes to that
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: idk what he'll do
[7:49 PM] VendoViper: I mean we will see
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: i have magic now and he hasn't had time to research
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: ya
[7:49 PM] VendoViper: My stacks are invisible
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: :ghost:
[7:49 PM] VendoViper: So they don’t know where I am
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: 👻
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: it's true

My notes say:
****note: okay, so ulm and ermor are now at war. we'll sandbag as long as possible and then pick the winning side***

talking to tien chi:
5:25 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: did he get your celestial master, ubar, with the assassination
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: he tried that with me but my dudes are Buff
[5:26 PM] filthincarnate: i could forge you some salt if you don't have easy earth access, it's pretty cheap
[5:26 PM] filthincarnate: lmk
[8:12 PM] beardbeard: do ubar assassinations just delete the commander
[8:12 PM] beardbeard: thats hosed up
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: oh
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: no
[8:12 PM] beardbeard: oh theyre seducers huh
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: he seduced it
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: ya
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: oh you lost your guy?
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: lame
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: he has a celestial master now i guess
[8:13 PM] beardbeard: yeah he got the celestial master and master of the dead
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: alas
[8:13 PM] beardbeard: update: immortality works in the arena
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: he tried that vs my prophet and my prophet dispatched a shaytan in melee
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: i got lucky tho
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate:
update: immortality works in the arena
ty good to know
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: anyway are you thinking of taking another crack at the cap
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: ulm is next in line but ermor just surprise invaded him
[8:14 PM] beardbeard: yeah ive got a full batch of demons
[8:14 PM] beardbeard: lol
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: yep
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: so
[8:14 PM] beardbeard: well ill give him his turn, assuming he takes it before i get there
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: no i mean he's not gonna take his turn ya
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: he's moving his stuff out
[8:15 PM] beardbeard: ah
[8:15 PM] beardbeard: i just realized celestial masters are morale 11
[8:15 PM] beardbeard: thats hosed up
[8:15 PM] beardbeard: oh 10 base
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: oooh
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: that's
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: gonna be an issue
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: yeah
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: hm
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: i mean......i could always go for the cap :eyes:
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: seems like youre next in line frankly
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: enjoy your desert
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: hmmm
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: :wow:
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: fuckin thing sucks
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: haha
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: yeah
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: idk
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: i'll think about it
[8:17 PM] filthincarnate: you're welcome to move your poo poo down, this war has already been game-losing for ubar
[8:17 PM] filthincarnate: if we keep the pressure on he eventually folds
[8:17 PM] beardbeard: ive never had to properly fight ubar
[8:17 PM] filthincarnate: me neither
[8:17 PM] beardbeard: crushing their cap is a drat chore
[8:17 PM] beardbeard: with the desert and seducers
[8:17 PM] beardbeard: seems like one of those nations you just go for the domkill on
[8:17 PM] filthincarnate: my prophet killed the shaytan ungeared
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: but i've got full gear now
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: including salt
[8:18 PM] beardbeard: lol
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: it's apparently a melee weapon
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: the salt
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: aoe1
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: so
[8:18 PM] beardbeard: yeah
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: we'll see what ubar does
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: like the main thing is that stack of camels
[8:19 PM] filthincarnate: once that dies he's got no army left and killing him is trivial

well, this war is getting messier than I'd like it to be. Ideally ubar would be dead before we backstabbed ulm, but because surprise guest tien chi boxed ermor out of the ubar war, ermor is pursuing his Rational Self-Interest and messing up my dogpile before ubar's totally dead. and those seducer/assassins ubar's got are making the coup de grace hard.

in light of this i don't think we'll make infrastructure on our new fort yet. i genuinely don't know what ubar's next move is, so we're going to play it cagey.

in other news, lanka paid us for some gear and we forged it. here it is:

for these two items we were collectively paid 19 astral and 1 earth. he wanted mr resistance gear, for his god.

that's the turn. it's looking more and more like taking ubar's cap might fall to us. getting into a fair fight is not usually how i like to play things, but it might not be avoidable at this point. we'll get ready.

I confess when I last played Yomi I didn't focus much on a bless, worked pretty well for me until two nations came for me at once(after surviving the FIRST time two nations came for me at once and I beat one so hard he gave up on the game) with some ownage on their minds.

I have no notion how, or more importantly why to play Yomi in Dom5.
The changes they made to the nation make it feel like you're running with concrete shoes and a lead prince Albert.

The community standard JBBM mod makes Yomi both cool and good and also fun to play, mainly by buffing your freespawn to the point that they're truly terrifying in your own domain through the mid-game, and also by slightly buffing Yomi magic access through some additions to mages, which lets you consistently use your national summons.

somebody mind explaining what the deal is with lucky yomi, mechanically speaking?

Basically the deal with lucky yomi is: they get a very spammable decently killy sacred summon at conj4 or something, with the disadvantage that they're naked and die instantly.

My reasoning with luck is that those sacred summons would then not die instantly, and be able to kick major rear end.

This was the pretender I took. Besides providing the luck bless, this dude also gives me alt2 by turn 3 so I can solo expand with dai oni in relatively safety, and then lets me sprint for conj4 for shikome spam as quickly as possible. Inspiring researcher is especially nice on jbbm yomi because you get foreign recruit mages, and also foreign recruit researcher priests a la Ma Man.

By this point in the game, the strategy was working pretty well. I got a decent expansion, although I did mess up and send a dai oni to an easily avoidable death in a vine man province. And as you can see, I'd made a big pile of demons, sacred demons and some random flagellants from an event and rammed it straight into Lanka's cap, relatively quickly.

As later events will demonstrate, this strategy has a few drawbacks that need to be finessed, but I still think it's good overall. Especially if you're smarter then I was in this game, and remember to also summon tengu and bishop fish in addition to mashing the shikome button repeatedly.

yeah thats pretty good

How are u posted:

OK cool. I partially misremembered what Luck bless did (I thought it was just like, most damage so I was like 'isn't that just good for everyone') and also failed to put together the fragile units part. I had Dai Oni on the mind.

The luck bless is totally useless for dai oni, for what it's worth. It only triggers when their ghost shape would die, and their ghost shape is undead and so luck does nothing.

Ubar's made their decision:

as we were concerned they might, they've struck out at us, in an effort to reclaim their lost provinces.

his camels attack one province

and he's thugged out his god to take another. let's take a look.

looks like i hosed up the screenshot of his armor but it's blacksteel just like the helmet and shield.

notice a theme here?

this guy has 6 encumbrance. that's a lot. he's beefy with a lot of mr, but with this kit he'll fatigue out instantly. just watch:

this is our brave pd, whom ubar's god instantly slaughters. and take a look:

killing that tiny handful of troops put him at 56 fatigue (at 100 he falls unconscious).

so that's exploitable, if we have to fight ubar for real.

anyway: meanwhile, to the northwest, our friend ulm is in trouble.

ermor (which is just rome spelled backwards) has besieged his cap.

looks like ulm was patrolling with some shield maidens on top of his cap pd, and altogether inflicted some losses. let's take a look.

our first look at an ermorese army. ea ermor is usually pretty bad so jbbm buffed them some i think, they still don't interest me tho.

lots of these guys

an elite version, which jbrere perhaps gave overpowered stats

their sacred cav, which jbrere also buffed (perhaps too much? who knows; if they're not winning games then it's probably fine)

prophet

bless. not a great troop bless, more for commanders.

a priest. ermor brought four to this fight, to, i guess, banish skeletons, which we told him ulm was massing. whoops!

ulm's crew, some shield maidens mixed in with cap pd.

an ulmish mage, we haven't seen him before.

battle is joined

ulm's fielding some light battlemagic, casting earth meld.

see the dirt piles on these guys' feet, they've been earth melded

keeps them immobile for the duration and reduces their defense 75%. it's not bad; i don't like it though. feel like it's overrated.

the shield maidens motor through the hastatus but die to the cav. if ulm had more earth mages this earth meld strat would probably have worked! but he didn't.

anyway in other news:

tien chi's got a stack of demons here. is he going for ubar's cap again? let's ask.

talking to tc:
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: where's your heavenly rivers stack going
[7:49 PM] beardbeard: to victory
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: i've got mercs running around killing ubar pd i don't wanna bump
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: is why i ask
[7:50 PM] beardbeard: oh dont worry about that
[7:50 PM] filthincarnate: going for the throat again?
[7:50 PM] beardbeard: im not going where you are
[7:50 PM] beardbeard: you could say that
[7:50 PM] filthincarnate: well he's trying to retake his stuff with his dumb thugged out god
[7:55 PM] filthincarnate: mysterious tien chi.....
[7:55 PM] filthincarnate: inscrutable.....
[7:55 PM] beardbeard: the secrets will make themselves known soon
*****editor's note: rude*****

what's tien chi gonna do? idk, he won't tell me, the dick.

anyway. random event:

this is fun.

more a novelty than anything, we'll never use it. note that it grants not "berserker" but "gone berserk".

another fun event.

ooh, this we'll use immediately.

over in lanka, yomi has broken the cap (see how the word "fortification", on the right side, is now written in red letters? that means the fort can be stormed). this will end one way or another soon.

we reach out.

[2:50 AM] Tekk: Going to Hellpower the god. Has 330hps and 20% regen. Hoping it will take a lot of killing and that the horrors will wear him down even if the god fatigues out
[2:50 AM] Tekk: Plus imps and elementals
[5:21 PM] filthincarnate: ooh
[5:21 PM] filthincarnate: which elementals
[5:29 PM] filthincarnate: fwiw i was actually gonna suggest hellpower so

[5:41 PM] filthincarnate: ?
[5:42 PM] Tekk: I got ench4 and blood4 for skellies and hellpower
[5:42 PM] Tekk: And yes conj3
[5:43 PM] filthincarnate: mmm
[5:43 PM] Tekk: I dont think ill win but hoping to hurt him badly.
Maybe I will
[5:43 PM] Tekk: I have 2 seducers as well so maybe I get lucky
[5:56 PM] Tekk: You could finish your turn then we would find out :p
[5:58 PM] filthincarnate: no

meanwhile ramc and i have talked a lot about trying to crack that indie throne, the one with the steve who casts fire elementals. i've come up with a strategy.

[5:21 PM] filthincarnate: how much for a fire ring, your kailasan friends inquire
[5:22 PM] PurpleXVI: Ninja or Joule?
[5:22 PM] filthincarnate: i.e. ring of protection from fire, thr trinkey
[5:22 PM] filthincarnate: joule
[5:23 PM] filthincarnate: also hello
[5:23 PM] filthincarnate: is tc bullying you
[5:23 PM] PurpleXVI: Naw. I've been friends with everyone so far. And am in fact planning to settle down for a few turns now I'm (mostly) done blowing gold on the first wave of forts, temples and labs, grow my forces a bit, and decide who to bully.
[5:24 PM] PurpleXVI: But I'd say... either cover the forging cost for a fire ring or toss me ten of any other type of gem. As long as you're not ordering up, like, twenty of them, I'm willing to hammer you out a handful at no surcharge as the price of friendly relations.
[5:24 PM] filthincarnate: :wow:
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: yeah i actually only want one rn!
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: so i'll send you five fire then
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: if that's what you'd like
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: btw do you border ubar
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: he's going down hard
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: so it'd be a good time to steal a free prov or two
[5:26 PM] PurpleXVI: I'm not bordering Ubar, sadly. TC west, Agartha NE, Lanka S.
[5:27 PM] filthincarnate: mmm
[5:27 PM] filthincarnate: well, lanka might die this turn
[5:27 PM] filthincarnate: 50/50
[5:27 PM] filthincarnate: yomi's sieging his cap and it's do-or-die for both of them
[5:28 PM] PurpleXVI: Wow, that's fast. Shame everything I have is on the far end of my territory securing the throne against anyone who's sneaky.
[5:28 PM] filthincarnate: if he does i'll let you know
[5:28 PM] filthincarnate:
Wow, that's fast.
yomi went straight for the throat
[5:29 PM] filthincarnate: like walked right for the cap
[5:29 PM] filthincarnate: so nobody's actually done any fighting yet
[5:29 PM] filthincarnate: and if yomi loses this fight they might just die
[5:29 PM] PurpleXVI: I'm not sure who I'd rather see going down. A blood nation or a freespawn nation.
[5:30 PM] filthincarnate: yeah jbbm yomi/tc are strong in their own ways so
[5:30 PM] PurpleXVI: Also, just out of curiosity, what's the ring for? Thugging someone to take a fire-themed throne?
[5:30 PM] filthincarnate: that's ltierally what it's for yes
[5:31 PM] filthincarnate: fire elemental caster
[5:31 PM] filthincarnate: just want to be careful with my supercombatant god
[5:31 PM] PurpleXVI: Very wise.
[5:31 PM] filthincarnate: the prov is slightly out of my candles so he'll be unblessed
[5:32 PM] PurpleXVI: That's risky.
[5:36 PM] filthincarnate: not with your equipment

This is hilarious to me because I had no idea what I was doing this game and lost several expansion parties to indies. I ended up with a super long but thin territory.

So unlike a lot of other people in the community, who get involved in multiple games at once (sometimes, like, up to twenty, which is insane to think about, to me), I have a strict "One-Game Policy", i.e. I only ever play one game at a time. Since a multiplayer game of dominions routinely lasts for months, that means that despite having played mostly continuously in this community for idk five or so years, I've probably played less than twenty total games.

But since I'm only playing one game at a time, and taking, at most, one turn every 24 or 48 hours, I have a lot of time to think about details, implementation, and diplomacy.

It's nice, very relaxing, imo. Sort of like chess-by-mail. :)

Anyway I've never done another SSLP and I probably never will; I don't really like gloating postmortems etc (it seems in poor taste to mock your friends, especially after beating them), but I figured that this one would be at the very least mechanically interesting, so this project is sort of here to give a more comprehensive record of my thinking than I usually display.

I hope you find it interesting! Though you are, of course, free not to :)

i've read a bunch and played 0 games but I like your style in this one, it's interesting getting all the background and details but this one is brisk and funny. im pumped to hear how your horrible wall of unkillable simian bdemon flesh goes in its plans for world conquest :shobon:

[10:04 PM] YNRN: Well I'm learning
[10:05 PM] YNRN: My first ubar game I did jinn warrior expansion
[10:05 PM] YNRN: If you're full scales you can get like 5-6 a turn and in theory they can take almost any province
[10:05 PM] YNRN: In practice, that also didn't happen
[10:05 PM] filthincarnate: yeah ubar's expansion seems rough
[10:05 PM] YNRN: I think camels are the way to go
[10:05 PM] YNRN: They're the third option that could be feasible
[10:05 PM] filthincarnate: combine that with an overpowered lategame it might be the new berytos
[10:06 PM] filthincarnate: anyway tc wants the cap i think and he's bringing more of the boys i guess
[10:06 PM] YNRN: If you can make it to turn 12 without someone sieging your cap I think you're in a decent enough spot
[10:06 PM] YNRN: You can start pumping out seducers/corruptors
[10:07 PM] filthincarnate: yeah i noticed
[10:07 PM] YNRN: And then you're pan
[10:07 PM] filthincarnate: i was legit not expecting that that could have been like

[10:10 PM] filthincarnate: take the fortitude/blood surge bless on an awake maneater
[10:10 PM] YNRN: Yeah I saw that much
[10:10 PM] filthincarnate: precisely because it makes your naked boys actually viable
[10:10 PM] filthincarnate: ya
[10:10 PM] filthincarnate: if you'd pulled that off tho + the camels sprinting into the backline to kill my retreating dorks
[10:11 PM] filthincarnate: this war probably turns out very differently
[10:11 PM] filthincarnate: so
[10:11 PM] filthincarnate: on paper i think i definitely lost
10:13 PM] YNRN: Well if TC is the main aggressor and you're not trying to pull one over me I'm willing to call it peace here after I take back my cap circle province and you can keep that fort
[10:14 PM] YNRN: And then I'll focus on them
[10:14 PM] filthincarnate: that's very generous of you!
[10:14 PM] YNRN: Since ulm is basically too busy to fight anymore
[10:14 PM] filthincarnate: okay, that suits me.
[10:14 PM] filthincarnate: yeah ulm is uh extremely busy
[10:14 PM] filthincarnate: i'm basically waiting to see how ulm/ermor shakes out
[10:15 PM] filthincarnate: and then i'll probably be an opportunist
[10:15 PM] YNRN: I considered contacting ermor to ask them to attack ulm while they were busy but then he went and did it anyway which was extremely convenient for me
[10:15 PM] filthincarnate: yeah if ulm had had one extra turn
[10:15 PM] filthincarnate: that throne stack woulda walked onto your cap
[10:15 PM] YNRN: Yeah
[10:16 PM] YNRN: And I would've had to pull out another great siege break from whatever I had left
[10:16 PM] filthincarnate: a tall order, to be sure
******note: sorry ynrn, for lying to you about organizing the war, and then getting free stuff  love you bye!!!!*****
[10:18 PM] YNRN: Thankfully I used my irl luck stat
[10:18 PM] filthincarnate: an extremely powerful stat
[10:18 PM] filthincarnate: okay i'll consider that fort our new border and focus on other stuff then
[10:19 PM] YNRN: Sounds good
[10:19 PM] filthincarnate: thanks for the talk friend
[10:19 PM] YNRN: No problem

was ever a nation in this humor wooed? was ever a nation in this humor won?????

my notes say:
well, this war was a modest success. we got a free fort, and lost nothing but our worthless, worthless time.
i guess we did invest in anti-shaytan kits for our commanders but all things considered those were pretty cheap, not a big deal

So instead of attacking ubar we're going to move a huge stack adjacent to ulm's fort. ideally he thinks it's for ubar until it's too late.

our other mercs, who successfully cleared out some indie longdead, are going to move adjacent to ulm's border on the other side.

from what we can see, ulm is pretty much on the ropes, with ermor sieging all his poo poo, so we'll come in from both the north and south at the same time and steal all his land.

our cap recruitment for this turn. ballooning upkeep costs mean that we have to either cut troop production or mage production, so we're cutting off troop production for now.

anyway what else is on

ooh, big fight. you guys like those right? you like to see people die for your amusement, choking on their own blood, begging for their mothers (if demons or whatever have mothers, who knows)

you like this, huh, you sickos

well okay

let's take a look

lanka's crew.

here's yomi's, opposite. it hasn't changed much from when we last saw it.

here's lanka's flagship sacred. they're pretty good, or historically were in dominions 4, i hear they're worse now but idk why.

the bless

blood bond/regen is a classic.

huh, don't see these guys often. another sacred. they're less good than the demons but they're immune to demon-specific counters.

lanka's god. he's wearing the gear we made him.

spooky guys at the back

grimace emoji

lanka opens with summons:

little air elementals are bad. but if you've only researched to conj3, then you can't summon the good ones. makes u think

these guys aren't bad. they fly and you can make a lot very quickly.

battle is joined. as you may have noticed from the flavor text lanka's guys are naturally vulnerable to fire (mechanically, they have negative fire resistance) so the thrown flames from the oni are doing a lot of work.

the palankasha and shikome clash. shikome are murder machines but palankasha are very resilient.

lanka's god casts hellpower, which mostly backfires, as the horrors it attracts end up doing way more damage to lankan forces than to yomi's.

imagine: a mantis, but scary.

the shikome die but these little oni are everywhere, and with the luck bless they're harder than ever to finish off.

the bull rampages but he can only do so much.

and the horrors just don't stop coming on the lankan side, this is real bad for them. honestly it might have lost them the fight.

finally the lankan remnants break and flee, the bull included.

exit, pursued by a horror.

we reach out to lanka:

[1:23 AM] filthincarnate: that's garbage
[1:23 AM] Tekk: Not sunk
[1:23 AM] filthincarnate: oh
[1:23 AM] filthincarnate: okay
[1:23 AM] filthincarnate: good!
[1:23 AM] filthincarnate: killing the shikome's a big deal
[1:24 AM] Tekk: Yes sadly was about the fatigue zerk
[1:24 AM] filthincarnate: ah
[1:24 AM] filthincarnate: well it probably saved your god's life i imagine
[1:24 AM] filthincarnate: so
[1:24 AM] Tekk: Ill break siege avain
[1:24 AM] filthincarnate: what with
[1:24 AM] Tekk: God
[1:24 AM] Tekk: Considering mages
[1:24 AM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[1:25 AM] filthincarnate: do you have stuff left
[1:25 AM] Tekk: Yes most mages survived
[1:25 AM] Tekk: Well the real ones. Lost the small ones
[1:25 AM] filthincarnate: what about troops
[1:25 AM] filthincarnate: mmm
[1:26 AM] Tekk: I'm going to just use the god and a couple of mages
[1:26 AM] filthincarnate: did you do the thing with the whatsit
[1:26 AM] filthincarnate: the imps
[1:26 AM] Tekk: I dont think he can kill the god
[1:26 AM] filthincarnate: mmm
[1:27 AM] Tekk: Yesh the imps and air elementals kinda clashed with hellpower
[1:27 AM] filthincarnate: well i guess he can if he gets it to retreat in a fort
[1:27 AM] filthincarnate: bummer
[1:27 AM] Tekk: They were mainly killing horrors
[1:27 AM] Tekk: Yes that's why in breaking siege witb it

****note: if lanka loses we're hoping to scoop up territory and maybe get his gems/some gear :)******

random events:

yet another free lab. maybe we'll start forting these if we get more money.

that's the turn. we're sending our troops toward ulm to see if we can't get another few provinces through treachery and double-dealing.

this shall be humorous
The big blood blesses tend to have a rather thematic tendency to screw you over in the right circumstances.

Like having a fight with a blood vengeance Marverni and casting wailing winds, and then watching their sacred boars and sacred mages mutually annihilate each other with gifts from heaven, trample damage from retreating, and blood vengeance doubling all instances of friendly fire.

Turn 28, entitled: "A Crossroads"

so first things first we bought this from abysia last turn. this turn we're making some stuff to go along with it:

forging both of those. why? you'll see, it's a bad idea but we're going forward with it anyway.

in diplomatic news:

we don't really have eyes over here but it looks like tien chi has invaded ermor. this would mean that, since we made peace the other turn and ulm is trying to fight off ermor, ubar is no longer at war with anyone. funny how that works.

speaking of ulm:

looks like ulm has a stack besieging ermor's fort there. we'll try to get a scout under so we can see it. according to ermor it doesn't have any mage support so we're coming in with a full brick wall.

ulm has no fliers or anything fancy so we're going with the sacreds in the front, backed by our free event-markata and starting-army atavi throwing rocks from the rear.

we brought a yaksha

nature magic bonus +1

awooooo

that's the plan for him, anyway.

We brought a guru, too:

the spell he's supposed to cast isn't researched yet, tho.

but it will be next turn, when we hit thaum6. then we're moving up enchantment as fast as possible. if we had to fight this turn not having thaum6 would be a problem but because ulm isn't expecting us i think it will be okay.

meanwhile, on the other side of the world:

we're moving to take ulmish territory.

the first crew is mercs backed by another group of event-markata.

the second is a modest crew of sacreds. the idea here is to take territory as cheaply and easily as possible.

in unrelated news:

what the gently caress happened here?

agartha's poo poo. it's bad, as i've said before, since he's using agartha's dogshit recruitable troops.

agartha's god:

s4 on an earth snake. huh.

the throne indies. this throne is no joke.

these guys will gently caress you up; aoe1 fire flare is serious business.

these guys will also gently caress you up, if you didn't come prepared (agartha did not)

ditto re: these guys.

and this guy is a pretty serious throne defender. he casts arrowfend turn 1, which doesn't come into play at all, but still.

the flaming wisps are the first thing to hit the agarthan front line and they shred it. agartha did not come prepared at all.

with the line troops dead the fire guys mob the earth snake, which does not have any source of fire resistance.

the olms, meanwhile, exhaust their mind blast ammunition and slither forth to fight in melee, a supremely bad decision.

the earth snake burns to death and the olms are also flammable. this whole thing was a gigantic unforced error.

man oh man do i wish we bordered agartha right now. alas: we do not. murdering agartha will have to remain a dream deferred.

meanwhile:

lanka attempted to break yomi's siege again, with disastrous results.

lanka's much-diminished forces

yomi's forces, similarly diminished, but still better than lanka's.

lanka is counting on its god to stack regen, regen 60+ hp a round, and be nigh-unkillable.

but immediately there's a lot of stuff on fire here man, this is bad.

lanka's bull goes berserk and joins the fray.

the lankans fight bravely but it's a losing fight.

the god might regenerate 50 hp a round but when it fatigues out (note the 102 fatigue) it loses more than that each turn as the oni surrounding it brutalize with club and katana. a passed-out unit can't defend itself.

it's a lengthy battle but eventually his health dips too low

the bull is slain.

anyway

random event:

you win some, you lose some.

that's the turn. we're backstabbing ulm, in pursuit of easy riches. we need gold to keep growing.

diplomacy corner:

My notes says:
this turn was decisive, lanka's in a death spiral.

talking to lanka:
11:22 PM] filthincarnate: i uh got a scout under your cap there
[11:22 PM] filthincarnate: idk if you've seen the turn yet
[12:56 AM] Tekk: Ouchie, have now
[12:57 AM] Tekk: Hoped the God would get Hellpower off again but didn't.
[12:57 AM] Tekk: Anyway will continue to pester, and Sauro is attacking him this turn
[10:37 AM] filthincarnate: yeah i saw that
[10:37 AM] filthincarnate: is your god not load-bearing?
[11:11 AM] Tekk: Say what?
[11:11 AM] filthincarnate: is your bless not incarnat
[11:11 AM] filthincarnate: e
[11:11 AM] filthincarnate: or are your sacreds still regenerating/blood bonded
[11:30 AM] Tekk: Ah yes
[11:30 AM] Tekk: God will be back just need to time it so he survives the initial arrival
[11:30 AM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[11:30 AM] filthincarnate: yeah you've got like
[11:30 AM] filthincarnate: a lot of territory
[11:30 AM] filthincarnate: so
[11:30 AM] filthincarnate: i assume you still have resources
[11:31 AM] Tekk: Yes a few smaller armies. I'm under no illusions about how far I can get but I intend to make Yomi's life a misery as much as possible
[11:31 AM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[11:31 AM] filthincarnate: well i wish you luck
[11:32 AM] filthincarnate: that said uhhhh i don't want yomi to get everything if you're going down
[11:32 AM] Tekk: Haha sadly its Yomi with the luck bless
[11:32 AM] filthincarnate:
Haha sadly its Yomi with the luck bless
simply take an irl luck bless
[11:32 AM] filthincarnate:
that said uhhhh i don't want yomi to get everything if you're going down
would you object to me taking some of your land into "protective custody", at some point?
[11:46 AM] filthincarnate: mostly i ask because: i have turmoil/sloth scales, and if yomi kills you and gets all your stuff i'm looking down the barrel of Giganto-JBBM Yomi as my neighbor
[11:47 AM] filthincarnate: not a prospect i look forward to!
[11:54 AM] Tekk: Well with Sauro hitting him he is going to have to respond, but yes all things being equal he will get more of my stuff
[11:55 AM] Tekk: Depends where his big army goes
[11:56 AM] Tekk: Regardless I dont have a huge issue about being eaten by a turtle but would ask that you defer a little so I can do some further damage.
[12:07 PM] filthincarnate: i would absolutely not dream of taking an ally's stuff without their consent
[12:08 PM] filthincarnate: do what you gotta, just let me know if/when the ship really starts to go down so i can try to make preparations
12:10 PM] Tekk: OK - likely to be a couple more turns and if its all going bad I will happily cede it to you
[12:10 PM] filthincarnate: ty friend that's very kind/generous
[12:10 PM] filthincarnate: monkey solidarity

talking to ermor:
11:17 PM] filthincarnate: my information is imperfect did uh
[11:17 PM] filthincarnate: did tc invade you
[11:17 PM] filthincarnate: or did they always have 117
[11:18 PM] weedzmin: they definitely attacked me
[11:19 PM] weedzmin: ulm is probably going to use their big army to take a completely empty fort rather than fighting my guys sieging all of theirs
[11:19 PM] filthincarnate: makes sense
[11:19 PM] weedzmin: and I probably have enough guys to defend most of myself from TC
[11:20 PM] weedzmin: as long as they don't send 100 more of those river demons
[11:20 PM] weedzmin: probably a good time to attack them!
[11:20 PM] filthincarnate: who, tc?
[11:20 PM] filthincarnate: i have no border, alas
[11:20 PM] weedzmin: you had one for like 1 turn
[11:21 PM] filthincarnate: i had a merc party in a stranded prov
[11:21 PM] filthincarnate: idk that that qualifies
[11:21 PM] filthincarnate: also what the gently caress is the ubar national site
[11:21 PM] filthincarnate: it damages you when you move into it?!?!?!
[11:21 PM] filthincarnate: insane
[11:21 PM] weedzmin: guess i can ask yomi since they killed the rest of lanka's guys this turn
[11:21 PM] weedzmin: yeah it's 2 AN fire damage
[11:21 PM] weedzmin: desert hot
[11:22 PM] weedzmin: it is a pretty cool effect but sadly not something you can mod. imagine the possibilities
[11:22 PM] filthincarnate: yeah lanka is totally toast
[11:23 PM] weedzmin: yomi's only got the capital, there's still a lot of lanka left
[11:23 PM] weedzmin: though there's probably not enough in those other forts to kill 200* oni
[11:24 PM] filthincarnate: also his load-bearing god died
[11:24 PM] weedzmin: that too
[11:24 PM] filthincarnate: that's an incarnate bless ya
[11:25 PM] filthincarnate: huh
[11:25 PM] filthincarnate: sauro attacked yomi
[11:25 PM] filthincarnate: or something
[11:25 PM] filthincarnate: idk my scout picture is spotty there
[11:26 PM] weedzmin: pan is also still attacking marverni, took a fort and killed some big pigs
[11:26 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[11:27 PM] filthincarnate: what prov was this?
[11:27 PM] weedzmin: 90
[11:28 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[11:28 PM] filthincarnate: it looks like ulm's stack is in 99
[11:29 PM] filthincarnate: i cna't see it but
[11:29 PM] weedzmin: yes
[11:29 PM] weedzmin: that is my empty fort
[11:33 PM] filthincarnate: what's in the stack
[11:33 PM] filthincarnate: any mage support?
[11:34 PM] weedzmin: i don't think so, mostly steel maidens and longdead
[11:34 PM] weedzmin: maybe some priests
[11:34 PM] filthincarnate: if you give me a screenshot
[11:34 PM] filthincarnate: i'll attack directly adjacent to it maybe
[11:34 PM] filthincarnate: and siege his fort in 82
[11:35 PM] weedzmin: i didn't fight them this turn, they're just sitting on the fort
[11:35 PM] filthincarnate: did you not have
[11:35 PM] filthincarnate: pd?
[11:35 PM] weedzmin: they fought the pd last turn
[11:35 PM] filthincarnate: oh okay
[11:35 PM] filthincarnate: so
[11:35 PM] filthincarnate: it's just some dorks or
[11:35 PM] weedzmin: it's entirely some dorks as i recall
[11:39 PM] filthincarnate: well in that case

my notes say:
*****general note: the most important thing in dominions is managing other players' attention. all of my neighbors-sauro, ermor, ulm, ubar, lanka-are thinking about someone else, which means i'm safe from invasion. i'm going to attract ulm's attention in a second here but ideally it will be too late for that to matter.

What a strange trick.

Personally I always try to attract everyone's attention, the game is more fun that way. Then if I don't get enough attention I engage in comical warfare for the hell of it.

Weird owl has life all figured out
t29

turn begins with good news: we've reached our thaum6 research target and have begun moving up enchantment in earnest.

research is, as i've mentioned, one of the most important things to winning the game in the long run, so it's good that we're making progress.

here's our current thaum research. greyed-out spells are spells we haven't researched yet. spells in blue are national spells, which not every nation has access to. and we've just received access to a very important spell, for us.

this is a really, really big deal. huge.

scripting anusika, our guru, to cast it.....yes hahaha yes :sickos: etc etc

anyway let's take a look at our invasion of ulm:

ulm had put down a little barbarian pd but it's nothing our boys couldn't handle.

meanwhile we kill the pd on ulm's fort without incident.

here's our main combat stack right now:

a big brick wall with commanders and monkeys behind.

meanwhile ulm took ermor's fort in retribution:

let's take a look at that stack.

this is the crew i expect us to have to fight next turn. it's mostly ulm guys you've seen before plus longdead.

here's ulm's big mage he brought. same paths as the yaksha we brought.

none of these mages have any gems

meanwhile:

ulm's cap stack is full of trash, and he has no effective magic researched......i think he's gonna die.

random event:

luck scales vindicated once again. we'll use this windfall to build infrastructure in the fort we stole from ubar.

second random event:

thoughts and prayers

meanwhile:

the flying brick is coming out of retirement for one last job with the equipment we forged for him.

and look, we got lucky with domspread so he'll even be blessed for the fight

we stole a site from ulm:

and man, am i glad we did.

hey, our scouts finally found pan's cap. let's arrange to take a better look next turn.

meanwhile yomi has exploded out from lanka's capital, taking lanka's whole cap circle. we better uhhhh get a move on here, if we want to scavenge some land.

another good site, also stolen from ulm.

anyway that's the turn, we're expecting a fight with ulm next turn so fingers crossed.

diplomacy corner:

talking to ulm:
1:41 AM] VendoViper: traitor
[1:47 AM] filthincarnate: :grimacing:
[1:48 AM] filthincarnate: nothing personal!
[1:57 AM] VendoViper: you realize ermor has killed nothing but pd
[1:59 AM] filthincarnate: your victory will undoubtedly be swift and your retribution merciless
2:00 AM] VendoViper: I mean I’m ea ulm and you prolly have hell sacreds
[2:01 AM] filthincarnate: this whole thing is a mess i just wanted us to kill ubar but ermor hosed it up
[2:01 AM] filthincarnate: and i need provinces man i'm jonesing here
[2:01 AM] VendoViper: You are all going to die to genies
[2:02 AM] filthincarnate: that's an extremely real and possible outcome
[2:02 AM] filthincarnate: and guess what:
[2:02 AM] filthincarnate: we would deserve it!
2:03 AM] filthincarnate: in all seriousness i'm sorry about this i just need to win an early war right now or my upkeep is going to cripple me
2:05 AM] filthincarnate: in my preferred version of this game you kill ubar while tc and ermor hellwar and then we clean them up together but since that doesn't seem to be an option i'm trying to make the best of it
2:06 AM] filthincarnate: i have to get to bed but i wish you the best of luck friend, may your conans fight well

talking to ermor:
[8:44 PM] filthincarnate: ulm has noticed
[8:44 PM] filthincarnate: and he's very dead, i saw that stack in 89 or whatever
[8:44 PM] filthincarnate: and uhhhh if that's all he's got he's dead
[8:49 PM] filthincarnate: how are things on your end
[8:49 PM] filthincarnate: idk where your stacks are beyond the one on my border
[8:53 PM] filthincarnate: cap stack for ulm looks especially weak
[8:53 PM] filthincarnate: but yeah all of those mages and troops of his are stealthy, excepting the longdead
[8:57 PM] weedzmin: i am storming the one fort this turn and the next will probably be open next turn
[8:57 PM] weedzmin: it occurred to me i can just magic duel TC's singular mage leader to avoid having to fight any ogres
[9:03 PM] filthincarnate: that
[9:03 PM] filthincarnate: is a really good idea dude
[9:03 PM] filthincarnate: oh poo poo i could do that too
[9:03 PM] filthincarnate: i have so many s1s
[9:03 PM] filthincarnate: and s2s
[9:03 PM] filthincarnate: :wow:
[9:04 PM] filthincarnate: we are tc's natural predators.........
[9:04 PM] filthincarnate: makes u think
[9:08 PM] weedzmin: we can do that if he only ever leads them with low astral mages
[9:09 PM] filthincarnate: i mean i can potentially just throw infinite s1s at astral mages
[9:11 PM] filthincarnate: what are teh base paths on celestial masters
[9:11 PM] filthincarnate: hmmm do you get cheap s1s or no
[9:11 PM] filthincarnate: mine are like 55 gold each
[9:11 PM] weedzmin: that is ermor's whole thing
[9:11 PM] weedzmin: a lot of s1f1
[9:11 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[9:12 PM] weedzmin: for 75 gold
[9:12 PM] filthincarnate: well there you go
[9:12 PM] filthincarnate: sacred or no
[9:12 PM] weedzmin: not sacred just Regular
[9:12 PM] filthincarnate: ah
[9:12 PM] weedzmin: ermor only has 2 fort wizards
[9:13 PM] filthincarnate: haha celestial masters are s1 base
[9:13 PM] filthincarnate: randoming to s2
[9:13 PM] filthincarnate: they're so dead
[9:24 PM] filthincarnate: is he invading
[9:24 PM] filthincarnate: or
[9:24 PM] filthincarnate: i can't see
[9:39 PM] weedzmin: still moving towards me yes
[9:39 PM] filthincarnate: mmm
[9:39 PM] filthincarnate: are you pulling stuff back
[9:39 PM] filthincarnate: or leaving things in ulm
[9:41 PM] weedzmin: i have enough guys in my rear forts to hold off TC
[9:41 PM] weedzmin: it will probably only require like 3 augurs but you never know
[9:42 PM] filthincarnate: kk

talking with ramc:
[10:43 PM] Ramc: oh my god
[10:43 PM] Ramc: did you peep this stack
[10:43 PM] Ramc: did you SEE IT
[10:44 PM] filthincarnate: what stack
[10:44 PM] Ramc: DO YOU SEE IT

[10:44 PM] filthincarnate: the ulm stack?
[10:44 PM] filthincarnate: no
[10:44 PM] filthincarnate: way

[10:44 PM] filthincarnate: no

[10:46 PM] filthincarnate: apkallu meta................

10:47 PM] filthincarnate: jesus i gotta see this for myself
[10:47 PM] Ramc:ZOOM ENHANCE

[10:47 PM] Ramc: ZOOM ENHANCE

okay i had to see this for myself:

ramc points out that ulm has "thugged" his commanders with dumb trinkets.

if you're guaranteed a single point of damage on a slinger per turn - every turn - then that's a bona fide raiding force you got there, pal.

slings have poo poo for accuracy so you can needle the slingers until they fail a morale check and run away. it's ethical, cheap, and can easily be scaled up with multiple archers for dealing with more than a single point of PD at a time
