Are you lost?

This is the games thread, for Dominions

It might help!

Friends: take a journey with me.

Who am I?

Why, I'm Filthincarnate. But my friends call me "turtle" ;)

We're not going to spend too much time in preamble.

Without further ado, I give you:

"The Ballad of the Flying Brick"

The lights come up and the curtain rolls back, revealing an empty stage. A blank white screen is slowly lowered from the roof: some kind of pulley contraption. A light flickers on behind you and you see words fade into being on the screen. Incredible.....some sort of epigram, for the experience to come. You lean forward, squinting eagerly.

The message before you is this:

[4:10 PM] filthincarnate: it's good! in this specific instance
[4:12 PM] filthincarnate: it accomplishes the hat-trick of: 1) preventing your sacreds from dying immediately to arrows, 2) making your sacreds formidable in combat, and 3) getting you a reliable awake expander

turn 1

Here we are. Home sweet home. But what is home?

Ah. Home is a caste-based society of various monkeys and apes, ruled by an aristocratic class of semi-divine celestial beings.

We're not going to meeting many of those monkeys though. This is our first turn of recruitment.

For our first turn of commander recruitment, we're getting this fella. Note that he has the magic leader trait, which is necessary for us. I'll show you why!

These are our cap-only sacreds. We will make as many of them as we can, for a long time. They're really good. Note the awe. Their main problem typically is: they're naked. Our bless should let us mitigate that, but only time will tell.

This is our research. The Flying Brick will be researching this turn, since we can't see what indies there are until next turn, and we're not risking a load-bearing pretender on a blind expansion.

That's the turn. A humble start, for a humble nation :)

turn 2

Turn 2. Basically everyone got a prophet, looks like. Traditionally, everyone gives their prophets funny names, and in a sslp typically one would go through and look at the funny prophet names and laugh, and joke, etc.

But I don't want to, so we won't! :)

Instead we're moving out the Flying Brick to his first province. It's in our dominion, so he'll enjoy the benefit of his fortitude/blood surge bless. It ought to make him very durable!

For our commander recruitment, we're getting one of these fellows. We won't make a whole lot of these guys, because they're expensive for what they are and also I don't like their randoms in JBBM very much. But we're making one this turn and we'll make a few more.

In looking at the world map, I think I've located our first neighbor! Can you guess who it is?

Hint: there's only one cave on the world map! :)

That's the turn! Incredible.....a humble continuation, for a humble thread. :)

turn 3

Now we're cooking with gas.

Remember that Gukya General we recruited? We made him our prophet! And gave him a funny name. All Hail A Plate Glass Window, Prophet of the Flying Brick.

Hee hee :)

I wonder how the Flying Brick did?

Mmmm. Seems good!

Let's take a closer look.

There he is, our beautiful boy. :)

Looking good, feeling #blessed.

The hapless independents.

These boys look poorly trained!

How will they fare in a fight?

Looks like: poorly!

How much damage did they do, to The Flying Brick? :ohdear:

Ah. A single point of damage. Brutal.

What else happened this turn?

Seems good. Anything else?

Hmm! Seems promising. Let's take a look.

A handsome fellow. I hope he enjoys reading books! Because that's most of what he'll be doing :)

Our research is a runaway freight train.

Now that we've got our prophet, he's leading a force of yavanas and taking our starting army to spread the good word, about this new god, The Flying Brick.

The Flying Brick is also visiting a new place. I hope everyone has fun! :)

turn 4

turn 4 already. We had a couple fights, I wonder how they went.

The Flying Brick is very consistent. From here on out I'm not gonna show you every time he slaughters a bunch of indies and receives like one point of damage, due to being incredibly durable, since it would be repetitive.

We also had another fight. This one involved our starting army (insanely bad) and our first crew of sacreds, plus our prophet. Looks like it went okay, let's get into details.

Looks like I hosed up some screenshots, but here's the army in action. There were indies, they get punched.

We also had a single casualty, I wonder what that's about.

Ah. "Profuse Bleeding", eh. Is that good?

Seems like "no".

He dies. Oh well.

Either way, a successful double expansion on t3.

Let's aim for a repeat performance. We're hungry for gold, as you can see, and moving very fast.

Mercwise the ship wreckers are on sale but we'd have to skip a full turn of cap recruitment (both commanders and troops) to even be competitive, so it's not in our price range atm, alas.

Did anything else happen this turn?

gross

GROSS

Look at him. He's on the far right there, the messed up little weirdo.

That's the turn. We're moving quickly; in theory, the Flying Brick will facilitate fast expansion.

turn 5

We double-expanded last turn, or tried to. Let's take a look.

Heavy Cav are no match, for the "Brick Wall" (the cool name my fortitude/blood surge sacreds have given themselves, in line formation)

Let's watch.

Heavy Cav indies are often the bane of expansion parties/awake expanders.

They're pretty good, see. Their first attack gets a lance bonus charge based on idk speed or something, they hit like trucks, is the point.

In this case they hit like a truck into a brick wall, and die. We take no losses.

Recruitable from the heavy cav prov? These guys:

This will, btw, be the only prov we find all game that makes these guys. We will basically make one a turn forever.

Scouts are very important, idk if you "noobs" are using them, but: use them, imo.

Meanwhile, the Flying Brick:

The Flying Brick kicks rear end dude. Just great.

Meanwhile we've got another expansion party queued up. This one's just a guhyaka general leading a crew of yavanas. Very straightforward.

Bad event, so what.

We're moving to triple-expand this turn, as the early-game powerhouse nation of Kailasa is routinely known to do.

In looking at our map, we notice something.

Turn 6 brings with it a successful triple-expansion. We'll take a brief look at the highlights.

A tough prov, but we're tougher. We fear no heavy cav.

The Flying Brick rocks on.

Uh oh. We've uh, accidentally expanded into Sauro's cap circle. And we can see a few new neighbors too.

Time for some diplomacy.

Conversation with Sauro:

[5:47 PM] filthincarnate: what are you expanding with, just the lizard cav?
[5:47 PM] filthincarnate: how's that going, i've always been curious about them
[5:50 PM] Lotham: They're quite nice, as are many ea cav sacreds tbh
[5:50 PM] filthincarnate: jbbm must have buffed them
[5:52 PM] Lotham: It's possible!
[5:55 PM] filthincarnate: jbrere likes to do that

[5:58 PM] filthincarnate: :wow:
[5:58 PM] filthincarnate: can i see? ?
[6:25 PM] Lotham: n-no
[6:49 PM] filthincarnate: :frowning:
[7:12 PM] filthincarnate: oh btw are you taking 215 this turn
[7:14 PM] filthincarnate: i only have like one scout and i can't really see everything, i'm trying to avoid a bump
[7:20 PM] Lotham: I dont know i just looked to see what shenanigans you did to me
[7:21 PM] Lotham: Straight to workk
[7:21 PM] filthincarnate: i didn't do anything!
[7:21 PM] filthincarnate: rude
[7:21 PM] filthincarnate: the kailasans are pure-hearted
[7:26 PM] Lotham: blessed monkies

That's fine. Maybe we'll get a bribe out of it. I'm not in a hurry to start a war when we can just eat Sauro's proverbial lunch by expanding more efficiently.

[3:41 PM] weedzmin: but, pretty alright considering
[3:41 PM] filthincarnate: oof ya, i can see them
[3:41 PM] filthincarnate: oh so you're in 195 eh
[3:41 PM] filthincarnate: ulm is on the other side of the golems
[3:42 PM] weedzmin: I've got the chicken titan and his like 38 damage flail so he can probably smash them well enough, but there's 30
[3:42 PM] filthincarnate: who the hell is piloting them
[3:42 PM] weedzmin: yeah I spotted ulm opposite the throne
[3:47 PM] weedzmin: haven't found any scout provinces yet so i can't actually see them but maybe someday
[3:47 PM] filthincarnate: lucky you have a cool scouting friend :sunglasses:
[3:49 PM] weedzmin: but then, hm, i do not control my own eyes.... what a level of trust this would require....

Let's reach out to Ermor's neighbor. We might want to play them against each other.

[3:45 PM] filthincarnate: oh i'm kailasa
[3:46 PM] filthincarnate: people get renamed on the server all the time
[3:46 PM] filthincarnate: it's an in-joke, of the mods
[3:46 PM] filthincarnate: is this your first game in our community?
[3:46 PM] filthincarnate: :)?
[3:46 PM] VendoViper: No
[3:46 PM] VendoViper: I’m in 7
[3:47 PM] VendoViper: And I played a buncha dom3 and 4 in the dim times off the thread
[3:47 PM] VendoViper: Before this newfangled discord thing
[3:47 PM] filthincarnate: indeed
[3:48 PM] VendoViper: I was interested in this ghouls in 173 next
[3:48 PM] filthincarnate: ya that sounds fine
[3:48 PM] VendoViper: Then swinging back down south
[3:49 PM] filthincarnate: mmkay, we'll call that our border then
[3:49 PM] filthincarnate: i look forward to a long, peaceful friendship
[3:49 PM] VendoViper: Same maybe we can beat up one of our common neighbors
[3:49 PM] filthincarnate:  i'd like nothing more!

Mmkay, we've set borders. I'm curious about Sauro's bless. Let's do some reconnaissance <---i assume i spelled this perfectly, will not be checking

talking to Agartha
] filthincarnate: hey question i see you've got sauromatia creepin' round
[7:01 PM] filthincarnate: have you seen the bless on his lizardcav, i want to know if i should be worried
[7:02 PM] Tagichatn: I don't think so, sorry
[7:03 PM] filthincarnate: s'alright, ty anyway
[7:03 PM] Tagichatn: Wait I did catch a battle this round
[7:04 PM] filthincarnate: i thought you might've!
[7:04 PM] Tagichatn: Magic weapons, swiftness, magic horse and snake tattoo
[7:04 PM] filthincarnate: mmmmmm
[7:04 PM] filthincarnate: thank you!

The best scouting is always diplomacy, imo.

anyway. The Flying Brick doesn't have an easy target in his dominion right now so here's how we're expanding.

A mere double-expand, not triple, out of an abundance of caution. The Flying Brick is loadbearing so we're not going to risk him stupidly.

Here's your random event:

Laziness.

Ramc posted:

You should do an aside on your One Game Policy sometime.

Mmkay.

So unlike a lot of other people in the community, who get involved in multiple games at once (sometimes, like, up to twenty, which is insane to think about, to me), I have a strict "One-Game Policy", i.e. I only ever play one game at a time. Since a multiplayer game of dominions routinely lasts for months, that means that despite having played mostly continuously in this community for idk five or so years, I've probably played less than twenty total games.

But since I'm only playing one game at a time, and taking, at most, one turn every 24 or 48 hours, I have a lot of time to think about details, implementation, and diplomacy.

It's nice, very relaxing, imo. Sort of like chess-by-mail. :)

Anyway I've never done another SSLP and I probably never will; I don't really like gloating postmortems etc (it seems in poor taste to mock your friends, especially after beating them), but I figured that this one would be at the very least mechanically interesting, so this project is sort of here to give a more comprehensive record of my thinking than I usually display.

I hope you find it interesting! Though you are, of course, free not to :)

Lots going on this turn.

huzzah. we've hit our first research target but can't make use of it yet, since we don't have the gold to recruit the necessary mage.

our next research target is in thaum, and we're sprinting.

looks like Ubar cleared an early throne. No surprise there, he's got big mages.

let's take a look at some expansion.

One casualty vs barbs.....it's the Brick Wall, baby

Tanking a heavy cavalry charge? You know it's the brick wall.

It's getting decidedly cramped on this corner of the map. Say hi to Marverni.

anyway.

The Flying Brick is here, trying to push dom onto the elephant prov, which he can then solo if he wants. Better safe than sorry.

Ship wreckers are up for bid. I have an idea.

This is the idea. We're skipping a turn of cap mage recruitment but if we can get them it will be worth it; the ship wreckers consistently pay for themselves.

Agartha's having trouble in expansion, looks like. Good news for us.

As I already mentioned here's Marv, with his awake-expander god. Maybe we'll see it in action one day.

Random event.

Throne event.

Double expanding this turn. The Flying Brick will be back in action, gasp, out of friendly dom, but the prov in question is so weak it shouldn't matter. Meanwhile we're consolidating our forces in the northeast.

As you can see, Sauro bribed me to leave their cap circle. We'll get to that in a second.

But first:

We've recruited our first Yaksha. These guys are our bread and butter. They're not StR and our main gold priority is being able to afford to recruit one per turn for the rest of the game.

Anyway. Sauro.

I left a little pd so we're gonna look at Sauro's reclamation party.

The leader.

The troops.

The bless.

The title of the image file above is something like "look at this dumb rainbow". I do not wish to disparage my comrades-in-arms, but: it's a dumb rainbow.

Basically I don't like rainbow blesses, I know they're all the rage in some communities, but imo they generally indicate a scattershot, unfocused strategy, and are ineffective against someone who has an actual plan.

Anyway looking at the bless paths i expect they're gonna sprint for foul vapors. we'll find out i suppose.

What else.

I spied on Marverni's god for you voyeurs.

Weird owl has life all figured out
turn 9

Turn 9 brings with it a successful quintuple expansion.

But what's this?

We got bumped, and it went pretty badly for us!

Two groups of sacreds......

With their high def scores (in part due to being on lizardback) my guys don't land a hit.

Losing an expansion party hurts, alas. Should be fine, since it was one of three, but still. Pretty clear we can't defeat sauro with similar numbers of sacreds; we'd have to overwhelm them with numbers.

To that end i'm building a fort to the south.

Meanwhile:

Ships were wrecked.

Gorgeous.

Building another fort to the northeast here. We haven't run into any neighbors in this direction, which probably means we're eating someone else's lunch, due to our hyper-aggressive expansion. We'll continue to cautiously do that.

It's turn 9 and we have 16 provinces, and if we count unclaimed indie provs that are nonetheless totally surrounded by our provs there are like 3 or 4 more, plus the two water provs we're potentially getting from the ship wreckers. All told, we're moving very fast and claiming a lot of territory. I think that maybe we should step on the brakes for expansion a little atm; we'll tech up, get our research train going.

Here's Yaksha #1. Ideally the first of many.

Interesting news from the Sauro border: there were some wolf tribe guys here only last turn so it looks like Sauro is attritioning his sacreds heavily to just normal indie dorks. Good long-term news for us, because vs indie dorks we barely attrition anything at all.

We have another new neighbor. We say hi but they never respond. Perfectly piloted, Pan kills everything. We'll just hope he's not piloting perfectly.

Let's check in on Agartha.

Ah.

Not looking great, here.

That's the turn. We're pretty big; let's consolidate our stuff and start thinking about infrastructure. It's not worth throwing away any more expansion parties on bumps.

Whoops, forgot diplochat.

turn 10

A quiet turn.

Ermor put the ship wreckers through the wringer already. See those three lagging behind on the left? They're all limping.

Merrow suck. I think jbrere buffed them but they still suck.

Anyway we slaughter them.

We're making use of our yaksha to forge this bad boy.

random event:

Seems fine to me, personally.

Anyway that's the turn. Double-expanding this turn, ship wreckers uw and the Flying Brick will join some raiding parties to fight that elephant prov which stubbornly has refused to be in our dom.

No chatlogs this turn. We're living easy.

FilthIncarnate

We successfully double-expand.

Ship wreckers rule.

Here are some fun indies.

Soldier version.

Nonsoldier version, actually better due to having a net.

A deadly mage......just kidding he sucks.

Their deadly nets.....these are actually good but the ship wreckers kill them losslessly anyway.

The Flying Brick and crew knock out some indies.

Apparently our dom spread to this prov right before the fight because everyone is autoblessed. Nice i suppose.

The mighty elephant.....

Elephants are size 6 tramplers, they're actually good under the right circumstances. Their main problem is they are too expensive for what they are, so massing enough to be good is ruinously expensive.

Anyway turns out The Flying Brick was overkill because the yavanas just slaughter everything losslessly.

Random event.

Second event. This one generated a lab in a province we're already building a fort in. Luck scales are vindicated once again.

Our magic item. Pretty sweet.

Third event. All these trash gems will ideally one day be useful.

I let the ship wreckers' contract lapse but nobody jumped on it so I guess we'll rehire them in a more strategic location.

Via scouts, we're getting a picture of Marverni. They're pretty cramped. This is in part due to us eating their lunch, via hyper-aggressive expansion in their direction.

Emboldened by how easily our yavanas mulched the elephants, I'm sending some to take on a bunch of barbs, with the Flying Brick as backup. Also I started another fort in the northeast? Unless I did it last turn. This was months ago and my notes are contradictory. Whatever, you get it.

Edit: oh and we're trying over and over to recruit an astral random yaksha but we keep getting other randoms. makes u think

We've got a couple of prophet announcements from other nations. My notes say: "Agartha's prophet is boring".

Yomi's on the other hand is significant, due to JBBM, and if I cared enough I could look into what it means/how it works but we don't share a border, I don't care.

We took an indie prov.

Barbs are a notorious early game terror but yavanas just slaughter them. Look at that k/d ratio: 15 yavanas kill 45 barbs in melee and only lose one of their buddies.

Squaring up.

Barbs have bad morale and yavanas have awe, that's what those little yellow flashes are, see? So the barbs just get absolutely murdered.

Our first fort is almost done, and it got a lab already from a random event. I'm walking an expansion party over so the h1 commander can build a temple next turn.

Expansion is wrapping up looks like. Sauro is pretty big, I'd put them at 17+ provs.

Everyone else is settling into fortmaking also.

Random event:

$$$$$$$

Luck $cales vindicated once again.

That's the turn. We're sending out a yaksha to sitesearch and starting fort #3, we've got 20 provs and we're sitting pretty on them for now.

Also we don't have an astral random yaksha yet. We'll keep rolling the dice.

Infrastructure week.

Some people might get gods. Meanwhile The Flying Brick has taken, like, at least 10 provs all by his lonesome. makes u think

An interesting event.

In other news:

We now border Ulm on two sides, due to wraparound. Whoops.

In merc news:

We bought the wet ones. These guys suck, honestly, but maybe they'll get us an underwater province or two.

Quiet turn. Making forts, making mages, researching.

diplomacy with ulm:

M] filthincarnate:
Same maybe we can beat up one of our common neighbors
turns out we've got a lot of those
[8:52 PM] filthincarnate: any ideas which one you might want to beat up?
[8:52 PM] VendoViper: Uh I mean, ermor bumped me so gently caress him?
[8:52 PM] VendoViper: I don’t have any good ideas, and need to do some backfill
[8:52 PM] VendoViper: But also are you like low key huge?
[8:52 PM] filthincarnate: no i'm just a weird shape
[8:53 PM] filthincarnate: you're probably bigger
[8:53 PM] VendoViper: Nice
[8:53 PM] filthincarnate: i got squeezed east/west but expanded a lot north/south

**editor's note: the above is a transparent lie, on my part**

From my notes:

anyway ulm and i might murder someone, who is a question. marv is tempting but the pig is a headache and idk that i want to border jbbm yomi, esp since arcvasti lusts for turtledeath, or might. maybe ermor? we'll see.

Some interesting developments this turn.

First:

Found a magic site. Pretty nice.

Next:

I hosed up the screenshot of the battle report but our rented dorks got us a province.

Another thrilling battle.

One of the indies. This would be a pretty good unit, if it had seas to swim around in, which it does not.

Overwhelmed with sheer numbers.

Their commander is a famous hero now, with legendary attack skill. His base attack skill is 10 so this is him megabuffed.

Random event:

Here it is. Thugs are bad so we'll probably never use it but one never knows I suppose.

In other news:

We finally got an astral random yaksha. We're giving him the dwarven hammer and having him make one of these:

He will make one of these per turn for the rest of his life (or until we get a less valuable e/s mage to do it).

This item's a JBBM exclusive. Thanks jbrere

That's the turn, we're scouting and sneaking and clearing that last barb prov.

Some stuff going on, let's take a look.

First:

I spied on an Ubar battle for you guys.

Ubar camelguys get little falcon friends.

These guys are recruit-anywhere, pretty good.

Falcon friends are free so it doesn't matter if they die every battle.

Falcons and arrows, pretty good combination.

Anyway, in other news:

cleared that last barb prov.

Our guys are pretty good; awe rocks vs low-morale guys.

Random events:

These winds will be playful no more.

Looks like I hosed up the screenshot but we got a nation-specific event, it gives us markata instead of infantry.

They're cuties. Not terribly useful, but cuties.

Finally, we got a free lab in a place I don't care about. Only 4k pop.....the pop-eating Flying Brick can retire here.

A relaxing turn. We're trying to get infrastructure online, we want to research a lot. We've been gimped by the weirdly low-income provs we keep taking but hopefully everyone else has the same issue.

FilthIncarnate

Lots to talk about today.

Let's get the random events out of the way first:

Luck $cale$

What's a sea-goat

In other news, our infrastructure investments are finally paying off. We have our first fort online and we're gonna make so many of these guys:

Yogis are great. They're dirt-cheap, sacred (which also means they have halved upkeep costs), they can research and communion. They're the backbone of our mage corp and we will make an enormous amount.

These guys meanwhile are our recruit-anywhere sacred. We're going to make a bazillion of these and pump them out of every fort. They're our bread and butter.

But let's take a step back from the hustle and bustle of the turn-to-turn and try to think of things strategically. Pretty soon expansion is gonna be over for everyone and early wars will begin.

Here's poor Agartha. They're tiny.

My notes say:

so this is interesting diplomatically. basically everyone seems pretty well stacked against each other, we're big
but not so big that we couldn't definitely get destroyed by a dogpile.
agartha's hosed and would definitely need an immediate war victory to become viable long-term, but we don't have that problem.
maybe we'll just tech up and see what's what from there eh?

Let's talk gamewinning.

Path to victory: we need 7 thrones to win the game (any seven). Right now we border two. Note the indie throne in our northeast and the one in our southwest.

Sauro's got access to a third in this lake up here.

And there are two more water thrones up here, which we could have access to via conquering either Marv or Ulm.
So that gives us five, we could find a way to snake the next two. Looks like north/south expansion is our immediate goal.

Oh hey looks like Ermor took out a cool prov. We'll reach out.

talking to ermor
3:08 PM] filthincarnate: can i see your pg's epic battle with the statues

[3:15 PM] weedzmin:

[3:16 PM] weedzmin: sadly i only got to keep the marble armor off this guy

[3:16 PM] weedzmin: would have liked the shield
[3:17 PM] filthincarnate: it

[3:18 PM] filthincarnate: dead man walking

[3:20 PM] weedzmin: on account of the fuckin statue province
[3:21 PM] weedzmin: but i have yet to fully survey their military capacity
[3:23 PM] filthincarnate: mmm
[3:23 PM] filthincarnate: they have no bless
[3:23 PM] filthincarnate: i could murder them
[3:23 PM] filthincarnate: if you were into it
[3:23 PM] filthincarnate: i'd feel slightly bad because we've been friendly
[3:23 PM] filthincarnate: but
[3:23 PM] filthincarnate: if you jumped on them i would not rise in their defense
[3:24 PM] weedzmin: good enough for me
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: and also i would take the rest of their poo poo
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: you want the cap?
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: be advised that he's got stealthy raiders or whatever
[3:24 PM] weedzmin: I haven't scouted enough of them to see what I'd want
[3:24 PM] weedzmin: gotta draw up the battle plans
[3:25 PM] weedzmin: and such
[3:25 PM] weedzmin: but yeah i probably want their cap and as much of the rest as I can get
[3:25 PM] filthincarnate: i'm not greedy, we'd split it fifty fifty
[3:26 PM] filthincarnate: maybe a generous eye could be cast toward your monkey neighbor since he's selflessly forgoing the cap
[3:26 PM] weedzmin: perhaps
[3:35 PM] filthincarnate: tell you what i know you're still drawing up battle plans
[3:35 PM] filthincarnate: do you just want me to tell you where his stuff is etc
[3:36 PM] weedzmin: i guess you could
[3:37 PM] weedzmin: i mostly just want to be able to see the extent of ulm's borders and what guys he's got
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: my expansion is weird so i have a long, skinny nation

talking to ramc
3:27 PM] filthincarnate: i'm weaving a tangled web here
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: ulm wants to invade someone so i was thinking marv, but ermor wants to invade ulm
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: and i just want an easy war
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: :grimacing:
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: i'll feel bad if i betray ulm
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: which
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: doesn't mean i won't
[3:28 PM] Ramc: what is best for the fans i wonder
[3:29 PM] filthincarnate: i'll post this convo
[3:29 PM] filthincarnate:
"what is best for the fans i wonder"
undoubtedly
[3:29 PM] filthincarnate: for me to win

talking to ermor
M] filthincarnate: anyway i'm still building infra etc but i could go at some point, lmk
[3:43 PM] weedzmin: i am also, but the last basic palisade is done in 3 turns
[3:43 PM] weedzmin: so i'll probably go in then
[3:44 PM] filthincarnate: hmm okay

Taking death on a blood hunting nation with old fire mages ? That's an extra special kind of crazy though (even if diseased old coots are more manageable in 5 than they were in 3).

when i won with ea abysia, i won with full death scales. the plan is: outrun your toxic dominion by immediately slaughtering two neighbors and taking their rich, bountiful lands.

] filthincarnate: you still grouping forces for ubar?
[1:11 PM] filthincarnate: i think ulm and i are ready to go
[1:25 PM] weedzmin: i have enough forces grouped to attack
[1:26 PM] filthincarnate: boom
[1:26 PM] filthincarnate: let's go then
[1:26 PM] filthincarnate: ulm and i are coming over the border
[1:27 PM] filthincarnate: his fort finished so i guess i'll be chewing on that for a minute
[1:27 PM] filthincarnate: cap is full of camels and ghuls, which i think he just started recruiting
[1:27 PM] filthincarnate: makes sense, they're massable
[1:27 PM] filthincarnate: only cost gold really
[1:28 PM] filthincarnate: probably a race between you/ulm for the cap
[1:28 PM] weedzmin: keep in mind djinn have glamour so there's probably a decent amount you just cant see
[1:28 PM] filthincarnate: i hear you but
[1:29 PM] filthincarnate: my sense is that many camels are gonna suck up a lot of gold
[1:29 PM] filthincarnate: like a lot
[1:29 PM] filthincarnate: and he has like 5 or 6 provs
[1:29 PM] filthincarnate: so
[1:29 PM] filthincarnate: there's probably not that much
[1:29 PM] weedzmin: yeah those fuckin genies are expensive
[1:29 PM] filthincarnate: ya
[1:29 PM] filthincarnate: that's the secret to fighting elves
[1:30 PM] filthincarnate: they could have theoretically infinite invisible poo poo
[1:30 PM] filthincarnate: but inreality their poo poo is very expensive so there's probably only so much of it

Here we are.

Random event.

These are elephant mercs. Got these fellas cheap. Elephants are good, if you pay like 60 gold to rent five of them.

They're wonky to use but can kill a lot very efficiently.

This is the target, Ubar. As I said it's full of mostly ghuls and camels.

We invade.

That's the turn. We've got both yogi factories online and are beginning our first war. Here we go.

magic site. cool cool

last turn we moved into Ubar's territory, trying to pop some fort pd. How'd it go?

Begun.....this clone war....has

The brick wall marches to war.

Ubar's PD commander.

huh. weird bless.

Anyway, in other news:

I tried something with the elephant mercs that didn't work. Basically I wanted them to try to clear a lightly-defended indie throne, but they were thwarted by Hill Wizard Steve

Can you see the problem?

Size 6 means it can't be trampled.

We killed most of the dudes guarding it tho, softened it up a lot. Not bad for an 80 gold base-price merc.

anyway what else is up

random event, score.

luck scales vindicated once again.

anyway back to the war.

Here is the diplomatic situation, on our end. We're yellow, in case you've forgotten. Ubar is black and ulm is blue, as you can see they've invaded and Ubar has moved his stack defensively.

It seems like Ubar's stack is camels, but one never knows, due to Glamour. We'll have to see it fight to be sure.

Here is my instinct. I want to see what Ubar plans to do with his stack, and also not risk my guys, so we'll leave the starting army and the starting commander on the fort here with a token force, and we'll "fade back" (as ramc would say) to the safety of our fort with our stack of sacreds.

Ramc took a screenshot of Ubar's scales. Looks like he took a garbage bless to afford these. Poor fella.

Second, cooler random event.

That's the turn. We're playing very cautiously; this is a high-stakes engagement. Recruiting a guru, yogi, and yaksha.

diplowise, we have an interesting development. It seems our friend ermor has been boxed out of invading ubar by surprise guest tien chi.

[12:41 AM] VendoViper: but I cleverly only attacked with 1 of my stealthy bois
[12:41 AM] VendoViper: so that army looks a lot smaller to him than it is
[12:41 AM] VendoViper: if the camels move north i dont want to hit it
[12:41 AM] VendoViper: should i just sneak you think?
[12:41 AM] VendoViper: I guess no rush
[2:16 PM] filthincarnate: i think sneak

[2:17 PM] filthincarnate: because of his domeffect i can't tell
[2:17 PM] VendoViper: He does and has a fort

[2:17 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[2:17 PM] filthincarnate: okay that's good to know
[2:17 PM] filthincarnate: i want to see what his camels do
[2:17 PM] filthincarnate: yeah
[2:17 PM] filthincarnate: tien chi has also invaded btw
[2:18 PM] filthincarnate: ermor says he's boxed out but it's still a three-way dogpile, i didn't ask tc he's invading totally independently
[2:18 PM] filthincarnate: once he loses his stack he's dead
[2:18 PM] filthincarnate: so
[2:18 PM] VendoViper: Well I don’t want to deal with the pile of genies later
[2:18 PM] filthincarnate: the question is how do we get that stack to die without suffering too pad of losses
[2:18 PM] VendoViper: So I’m glad we are splattering him now
[2:18 PM] filthincarnate: it's the right move
[2:19 PM] filthincarnate: i've got another stack of sacreds moving north also
[2:19 PM] filthincarnate: so we're gonna be just fine
[2:19 PM] VendoViper: I can have as big an army in position again in 3 turns
[2:20 PM] filthincarnate: yeah it's a matter of time
[2:20 PM] VendoViper: I think if I can get into contact with my steel maidens they will blend camels just fine
[2:20 PM] filthincarnate: i would sneak onto the throne maybe
[2:20 PM] filthincarnate: i want to see their scripting
[2:20 PM] filthincarnate: but my intuition is they'll do the same thing they have been
[2:20 PM] filthincarnate: which is:
[2:20 PM] filthincarnate: fire arrows
[2:20 PM] filthincarnate: while their falcons fly at you
[2:20 PM] filthincarnate: and then try to clean up with swords
[2:21 PM] VendoViper: Hold and attack
[2:21 PM] filthincarnate: oh poo poo dude ubar uh
[2:21 PM] filthincarnate: has not taken its turn

All right, things will get interesting for a while now.

so I don't have a screenshot of the battle result but guess what: Ubar tried to seduce our prophet, A Plate Glass Window. Seduction attempts always fail vs pretenders and prophets so instead a fight ensued. Who won? You'll have to read this to find out.....a rare moment of suspense, in this LP, due to me loving up a screenshot.

A portentous scene. This assassination attempt happened at night so my guy, who can't see in the dark, suffers from darkness debuffs.

-3 to attack and defense, see. We're still pretty good at fighting tho.

Brick don't fail me now.

Here's our powerful foe.

He's invisible, ethereal, and glamoured also, so just all around a nasty piece of work. Our weapon is but simple iron, no magic.

Fortunately he has no good spells researched so he spams sparks at us for a while then flies into melee.

Our first successful strike pops his invis but he still has glamour. Here's our attack sprite btw, idk if i've shown it off before.

After struggling mightily for like ten rounds we finally pop his glamour. He still has ethereal but we, at last, have a chance.

But suddenly our foe lands a single punch

Brutal. That punch of his took over half our hp (8 damage), and left us with a permanent injury. Things look bleak........

just kidding bitch we rock. If not for our fortitude bless that punch would have absolutely killed us outright tho.

For murdering a shaytan in single combat our prophet has become world-renowned.

hell yeah

Our hero ability is a permanent 14 hp bonus, minus the 5 hp from the never-healing punchwound we've got a permanent net buff of 9 hp. totally worth it.

a legendarily tough plate glass window, the prophet of the flying brick.

remember that dragonskin armor we got last turn? i think our guy has earned a suit.

a mighty warrior indeed.

Anyway it's a good thing we moved away, it's clear that Ubar's plan was to try to decapitate our stack with an assassin and then leap on us in melee with camels. We fought off the assassin and carefully walked away.

Our starting commander perished tho, rest in peace, friend.

Random event:

uhhh

good?

good, i guess.....

random event:

luck scales vindicated once again.

Meanwhile ulm shares this screenshot:

they've had more success than us and are beginning to knock down ubar's throne fort.

ah, we found tc's invasion crew. maybe we can spy on a battle.

so, tactically:

either Ubar's camels try to rush us, which is dumb, or try to make it to the throne prov west of his cap, which is smart. if he lunges me this turn he'll get brick'd, and if he runs off this turn then we'll move to take his poo poo.

preparing for cameldeath, if necessary.

that's the turn for now. we're recruiting another gukya general now that we know assassins are in the mix; redundancy is key here.

in that spirit, we're gonna kit out our commanders a little to fight shaytans. we got lucky the first time but who knows if we will again.

the gloves of the gladiator grant four magical attacks each round. combined with the enchanted salt, which functions like an anti-djinn brand in your misc slot, we should be good to go.

[10:45 PM] filthincarnate: it's exciting!
[10:45 PM] filthincarnate: potentially

[10:46 PM] filthincarnate: i guess
[10:46 PM] Ramc: random harder
[10:46 PM] filthincarnate: doing my best
[10:47 PM] filthincarnate: there's also the question of bless coverage, on tc
[10:47 PM] filthincarnate: i recall that being a major issue for them
[10:47 PM] filthincarnate: i think my solution will be:
[10:47 PM] Ramc: you get the h1d1 guys i guessss
[10:47 PM] filthincarnate: yakshas holding communion matrices
[10:48 PM] filthincarnate: i do???
[10:48 PM] filthincarnate: what guys
[10:48 PM] filthincarnate: gukya generals are just h1
[10:48 PM] filthincarnate:
yakshas holding communion matrices
yakshas are whatsit, h1
[10:48 PM] filthincarnate: so if i give them a yogi communion
[10:48 PM] filthincarnate: they can divine bless i think
[10:48 PM] Ramc: er, TC gets
[10:49 PM] filthincarnate: yeah it's a real problem for them generally they have to transition to bishop fish eventually
[10:49 PM] filthincarnate: granted i have the same problem but
[10:49 PM] filthincarnate: i'm working on it

editorial: all of this stuff is part of why having dominions friends etc is important. like you talk about stuff with them and they'll suggest things you never thought about, or you'll get an idea from the conversation,

[7:29 PM] filthincarnate: and looks like his camels are out of position!
[7:29 PM] VendoViper:

[7:29 PM] filthincarnate: boom!!!!
[7:29 PM] filthincarnate: the commander has mapmove 12 so
[7:30 PM] VendoViper: he might raid me, but ill get this fort at least
[7:30 PM] filthincarnate: a fort in his cap circle
[7:30 PM] filthincarnate: yeah
[7:30 PM] filthincarnate: i guess he might attack with the cap stack
[7:30 PM] filthincarnate: i'm moving my guys out to tie up him again

the random events are boring, i'm not taking screenshots of them. just some gems.

Anyway. turn 22.

We hit conj5, this is good. It offers us some useful defensive stuff:

this is a panic button. it consumes a lot of gems but we can make an army of an armored version of our sacreds. ideally we won't have to use it, but one never knows.

this is howl. it's good. you'll see it in action, i'm sure.

so instead of attacking me or moving to defend his throne, Ubar moved his camels north, a truly bizarre move. just goes to show that you never really know what people will do.

he killed one whole pd taking our prov. rest in peace, friend

arena battle coming up. we shan't be participating; we have nothing that might win that we're willing to risk.

anyway, since ubar's walked his camels away, we're going to go siege his fort again

now, my sense is that ubar will probably not bring his camels back and have them patrol, but just in case he does, we're scripted to fight him.

my notes say:

our army scripted to fight camels is: 5 squads of mixed gukyas/yakshas set far forward on attack cav, some mercs in a line
mercs would go first but they walk slow so no.

commanders in back with bodyguards and starting army monkey infantry, which should be plenty to fight off falcons.

meanwhile the commanders of this stack?

they're kitted for battle. gloves? check. armor? check. salt? you better believe it.

now you may be asking what's up with ubar's camel stack

this is what's up. he's leading with his prophet, i guess a starting commander. this dude only has mapmove 12, as opposed to the 24 of the camels, so the stack is nowhere near as mobile as it normally would be. i'm not complaining, it's good for us.

said prophet is wearing these boots, which are: not good.

oh and we found a magic site:

a water site that makes fire gems, go figure.

anyway that's the turn. we're recruiting gurus instead of yogis from our peripheral forts because we have extra money so why not, and also: we need to random some more s2s.

------

later on i had a thought, i took it to ulm:

] filthincarnate: hmm
[7:50 PM] filthincarnate: you know what he's doing
[7:51 PM] filthincarnate: he's probably going to try to take your retreat prov
[7:51 PM] filthincarnate: with the camels
[7:51 PM] filthincarnate: and kill you with the cap stack
[7:51 PM] filthincarnate: if i had to guess
[7:53 PM] VendoViper: hrm
[7:53 PM] VendoViper: Ghuls sound like undead
[7:53 PM] VendoViper: turns out they arent
[7:53 PM] VendoViper: you cant banish deamons
[7:54 PM] VendoViper:

[7:54 PM] VendoViper: :/ so it gets ethereal when its wounded
[7:54 PM] VendoViper: but iron vunrability 3
[7:55 PM] VendoViper: what do you think, hold the siege with a single scout and fall back to eat the camels
[7:56 PM] VendoViper: if storming happens last....
[7:56 PM] VendoViper: im certain i can kill whatever is in this fort
[7:57 PM] filthincarnate:
you cant banish deamons
uhhh
[7:57 PM] filthincarnate: yes you can dude
[7:57 PM] filthincarnate: in jbbm
[7:57 PM] filthincarnate: jbrere put it back in
[7:57 PM] VendoViper: oh neat I could move my prophet in
[7:58 PM] filthincarnate: boom
[7:58 PM] filthincarnate: okay jbrere confirms you can banish demons
[7:59 PM] VendoViper: gently caress it, i sieged it down, my fort
[7:59 PM] filthincarnate:
what do you think, hold the siege with a single scout and fall back to eat the camels

lot going on this turn

Ubar didn't bother putting pd on the fort we were sieging earlier so we took it without a fight.

tien chi's stack reveals itself

let's take a look.

here's their army, a mix of tramplers, sacreds, and line troops.

these guys are all the rage now. or were i guess. jbrere changed their summoning to make it scaling and you could make a lot, i think he changed that tho.

these guys are blenders, a classic cap-only sacred

accompanying mage. note that he flies

tc line troop.

a trampler. at size 4 he could trample our size 3 sacreds. might be a problem, might not.

for a nation with so many sacreds, tc does not have many strong priests, so this prophet is load-bearing.

the bless. i think we can kill this, tbqh.

anyway what else is on

ubar vs ulm unfolded as we predicted.

ubar's side

ulm's boys

these guys are pretty good, two axes.

these ladies are fine too, two attacks.

here's the ghul, i'll try to get the woundedshape too

the ghuls are inconsistently scripted and rush forward in small chunks to die.

the sulfur haze and fire evocations kill what few ulmites that die, doing decent work.

here's the transformed ghul. he's ethereal now, bigger, and has the same 50% regen. he'd be good vs something that did not immediately blender him with iron weapons but, alas

it's a quick fight.

anyway what else is on

agartha's doing some expansion. let's take a look

agartha's bless. huh

the army's some mindblasters with some blockers.

the agarthan sacred. these guys suuuuuuuuck

these guys are fine i guess. against a real army they die immediately.

he propheted an earth reader, i guess, and didn't rename it.

the star of the show. these guys are pretty good.

see all those grayed-out barbarians? they've been mind blasted.

agartha's expensive elephants get shredded immediately but the mindblasters paralyze enough barbarians that their blockers can kill them. you don't need to be a good fighter to kill a paralyzed guy.

we'll keep an eye on agartha, but he's using the bad troops so seems like he's not necessarily worth worrying about.

random event

okay arena battle let's go

round one

this guy's an immortal tien chi hero but he's currently feebleminded, i forgot this was the arena that gives you a slave collar. dying for glory

sauro's champ

turns out a crippled old man immediately dies to a cavalrywoman spearing him.

ermor sent a generic commander, it goes how you expect

she gets some dumb item whatever

anyway we'll ofc be storming ubar's fort this turn.

things look grim for ubar, i expect these camels to go back to his cap to try and defend but one never knows for sure. we'll move in with mercenaries, they can take the pd and if we're wrong about the movement of the camel stack we don't care if mercs die.

that's the turn. our upkeep continues to grow and we haven't had a huge income bump from this war yet so i'm in the market for more violence.

[12:56 PM] 🦍➡💀 DrBonertron: well to be fair i wound up in his cap circle accidentally

[1:42 PM] filthincarnate: i'm storming a fort of ubar's this turn but other than that i'm available

[1:44 PM] weedzmin: moving guys this turn to attack next turn
[1:46 PM] filthincarnate: okay i'll clean up ubar's remnants and move in also, i might be a turn late but it should be fine

******editor's note: this^ is a lie mostly, i'm sandbagging on purpose*****

[1:46 PM] filthincarnate: ?

[1:47 PM] filthincarnate: i hear those are pretty good
[1:47 PM] weedzmin: the archon +2 inspirational researcher is gonna do a lot for me after i get a decent book tower built up

I'm an indiosyncratic player; I always take luck, even in vanilla, unless i have a very specific reason not to, and I've literally never taken drain scales once, but I take death/sloth/turmoil very liberally and encourage others to do the same.

Luck is especially useful for us in this case because most low-impact positive luck events give you handfuls of random gems. There are some nations where consistent handfuls of random gems end up being very useful; kailasa is one such nation. Especially given how (spoilers, I guess) low-gem-income this map turns out to be, the constant trickle of gems from positive events ends up being very important.

the other thing about luck is: it's fun, and good for one's irl morale. it's much more fun to log on every day or whatever and see that you got some free labs or whatever than to see that you've got a bunch of indie attack event headaches to worry about. managing one's irl morale is one of the most important parts of dominions play, in the long term.

that and "the one-game policy" keep me on an even keel even when like i had to unexpectedly move out of my apartment in ten days in the middle of this game, etc.

dominions games routinely last for months so you want to plan for the long haul.

hmmm. no fort storm report. what happened there?

ah. looks like i....forgot to click the "storm fort", command, last turn. i've had a lot going on irl, okay, sue me. whatever we'll do it this turn.

our dirt-cheap mercs seized some territory. looks like we were right about ubar moving his camels away.

found some magic sites.

huh, pretty nice. let's look at the mage.

ah, he sucks. well, he'd be nice if we had no nature access, but we do, so.

earth and astral are our main gem needs so this is good, for us.

ulm and sauro both claimed thrones this turn. ulm stole his from ubar. note the throne values and the number of throne points required for the win.

tien chi knocked over ubar's cap. let's take a look.

tc sends his footmen to take the brunt, interesting strat.

when his sacreds finally arrive it's murdertime.

Ubar is supremely dead at this point, we'll see if we can't scavenge out the remnants.

Meanwhile, just east of the above screenshot, we notice something interesting.

Lanka's cap looks like it's....besieged by yomi? weird.

we reach out.

talking to yomi:
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: dude yomi
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: are you
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: sieging lanka's cap????
[3:27 PM] Arcvasti: yes
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: what's the story there
[3:27 PM] Arcvasti: I attacked lanka with a big pile of demons
[3:27 PM] filthincarnate: :wow:
[3:28 PM] Arcvasti: we haven't had any real fights yet really
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: seems like you have nothing else in his cap circle so
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: like
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: how did you get there
[3:28 PM] Arcvasti: I do have something in their cap circle
[3:28 PM] Arcvasti: I had to take a roundabout route because I didn't notice there was a river
[3:28 PM] filthincarnate: is it a lake
[3:29 PM] filthincarnate: oh wait nvm i see it now
[3:29 PM] filthincarnate: you must have come via 16
[3:29 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[3:30 PM] filthincarnate: luckdemons, huh
[3:30 PM] filthincarnate: how are you liking them
[3:30 PM] Arcvasti: they seem to be doing pretty well so far
[3:30 PM] Arcvasti: but like two or three die every turn no matter what, and they're also racking up afflictions pretty fast

huh.

anyway.

if people don't bid on mercs their prices gradually go down, and nobody else seems to be hiring mercs for some reason, so we're hiring all of them for pennies on the dollar.

seems like Ubar-war is wrapping up for us. we're unlikely to get the cap with both tien chi and ulm in position. time to look toward the future.

talking to ermor:
3:37 PM] filthincarnate: but anyway where do we stand re: ermor
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: i mean
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: ulm
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: you're ermor
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: i'm tried
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: tired*
[3:37 PM] weedzmin: i am moving at ulm this turn
[3:37 PM] filthincarnate: kk, where are you coming from
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: moving that big stack out of your cap and toward his?
[3:38 PM] weedzmin: both from my cap and on my south end
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[3:39 PM] filthincarnate: i'm marching a stack from my cap and also gonna repurpose the ubar stack but they're both gonna have to walk so it'll be a minute
[3:40 PM] filthincarnate: lmk if i can be of assistance in the meantime, happy hunting
3:40 PM] weedzmin: I don't know where all their guys are at the forts look mostly empty except for the one by ermor
[3:41 PM] filthincarnate: the one in 175 has some dudes in it but yeah
[3:41 PM] filthincarnate: i think he's extremely out of position
[3:41 PM] filthincarnate: to fight you

talking to lanka:
3:24 PM] filthincarnate: comrade lanka
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: greetings
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: your kailasan cousins (and now neighbors!) offer you homage
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: also:
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: is uhhhh yomi sieging your cap????
[3:24 PM] filthincarnate: what's up there
[3:34 PM] Tekk: He sent his entire army (pretty much) staright to my cap
[3:34 PM] Tekk: We will have a big fight shortly and see whose bless wins
[3:34 PM] filthincarnate: yeah his seems weird
[3:34 PM] filthincarnate: it's just luck right
[3:35 PM] filthincarnate: what've you got lined up
[3:35 PM] filthincarnate: mind if i ask
[3:35 PM] Tekk: one sec
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: kk
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: btw if you have any extra dudes hanging around ubar's cap is currently besieged by tien chi and he's basically dead
[3:38 PM] filthincarnate: so ubar provs are free atm
[3:48 PM] Tekk: I do have some more stuff but most of it is going to do or die vs the Yomi horde
[3:48 PM] Tekk: If I lose im done anyway - if I win I think hes probably done also
[3:50 PM] Tekk:

[3:50 PM] Tekk: He has a 3rd DaiO ariving this turn
[3:51 PM] Tekk: So 100 Sacreds 150 chaff and a few mages
[3:51 PM] filthincarnate: hahaha
[3:51 PM] filthincarnate: flagellants
[3:51 PM] filthincarnate: what's your bless/research
[3:51 PM] Tekk: well with a luck bless they are better chaff
[3:51 PM] filthincarnate: ya i can see them being better withluck
[3:51 PM] Tekk: I think I should win but not entirely sure
M] Tekk: As long as you are not going to tell him :p only so its less embarrasing when he pulls some cat out of the bag and kills me
[3:53 PM] filthincarnate: i won't gently caress you over
[3:53 PM] filthincarnate: i have Honor
3:53 PM] Tekk: I have about 100 sacreds also mainly the bigger demons and a few monkeys, with a regen / bloodbond bless
[3:54 PM] Tekk: He is skellie spamming - so will I be - so who knows :p
[3:54 PM] Tekk: I have my SC expander there also - anyway will be fun fight regardless
[3:54 PM] filthincarnate: i sincerely wish you luck
[3:54 PM] Tekk: But Arc tends to have nasty surprises so im expectiing something horrible :p
[3:54 PM] filthincarnate: people say jbbm yomi is op
[3:54 PM] Tekk: I think its good
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: has he cracked your cap yet
[3:55 PM] Tekk: and Lanka an obvious target
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: oh right scales
[3:55 PM] Tekk: No - and may not nbext turn
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: well i hope you win
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: personally
[3:55 PM] Tekk: hahah
[3:55 PM] Tekk: so do i
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: :men_with_bunny_ears_partying:
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: us
3:55 PM] filthincarnate: i would wait yes
[3:55 PM] filthincarnate: you could ping him in the meantime
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: with scouts or something
[3:56 PM] Tekk: and he has to sit around twiddling his thumbs
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: and get a sense for his battle plan yes
[3:56 PM] Tekk: I have a lot of crappy mages
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: defender's advantage, i'd use it as best you cna
[3:56 PM] Tekk: yes
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: what are they, b1s?
[3:56 PM] Tekk: yes
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: do you have summon imps
[3:56 PM] Tekk: yes
[3:56 PM] Tekk: I shall be using that anyway
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: do you have a pile of bloodslaves
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: because summon imps is a deeply underrated spell
[3:56 PM] Tekk: enough for one big battle but not more
[3:56 PM] filthincarnate: that's all you need my man
[3:57 PM] Tekk: heres hoping
3:57 PM] Tekk: I have one more devious trick but its long odds it wont work be funny if it does tho
[3:57 PM] filthincarnate: keep me posted
[3:57 PM] Tekk: Will do
[3:57 PM] filthincarnate:

*****editor's note: i like tekk. doesn't mean i won't slit his throat tho*****

Lanka and i talk some more and I agree to sell him some equipment for his upcoming rumble with yomi. our ideal outcome is both of them fight for a long time and hurt each other very badly, so propping up whoever seems to be losing is in our long-term best interest. and also we can unload some event trash and sell forged items at a markup: all in all, trading partnerships are good for us. :)

we sell yomi our flambeau we would never use anyway, and also we agree to forge him some equipment, you'll see in forthcoming turns.

talking to ramc:
4:29 PM] filthincarnate: yomi is besieging lanka's cap
[4:29 PM] filthincarnate: unexpectedly
[4:29 PM] filthincarnate: yomi's bless:
[4:29 PM] filthincarnate: luck
[4:29 PM] filthincarnate: lanka's bless:
[4:29 PM] filthincarnate: blood bond/regen
[4:30 PM] filthincarnate: they have yet to actually fight
[4:30 PM] filthincarnate: i want yomi to lose because they're arcvasti, the sassy newbie
[4:30 PM] filthincarnate: but if lanka loses i can scoop up his stuff
[4:32 PM] Ramc: win-win

Weird owl has life all figured out
t25

an eventful turn.

now that our yogi factories are online our research continues to improve. research is extremely important long-term, which is why messy early wars can be so ruinous. this war has already gone so badly for ubar that in the long run it will certainly be game-losing, even if he manages to drag it out, because it's stunted his ability to recruit mages and research with them.

the situation in ubar continues to develop. we successfully stormed his fort and are using mercs to roll up his territory, but he successfully broke tc's cap siege this turn.

a massacre, expensive on both sides. let's watch.

here's tc's army, but....huh. those demons of heavenly rivers are facing the wrong way?

ah, they're routing. looks like ubar must have successfully assassinated tc's magic leader, i.e. the same thing he tried (and failed) to do vs us.

we get our first look at ubar's god, too. here he is, decked out in trinket-level gear.

this is an unironically formidable force.

falcons and arrows soften up tc's army, which, without its heavenly river demon backbone, is much less scary.

still, tc's nobles fight bravely, inflicting significant casualties.

but in the end ubar's forces are too much.

anyway what else is on

found a magic site, pretty good.

anyway let's look at that fort storm of ours

minor casualties. no big deal tho.

we sprint forward immediately. fort province defense is those arrow guys on the walls.

some of our guys get set on fire. we still win tho, no biggie.

here we come, up the ladder, swords a-swingin'

anyway what else is on

lanka is pinging yomi's stack, let's take a look.

here comes yomi.

these chicks are scary man. berserker +4, and there's a lot of them.

here are some oni.

lil baby oni. these guys are actually much better than they look.

big oni. i know arcvasti loves these guys, he's talked about it.

these guys are funny, yomi must have gotten a bunch from a random event.

the whole blessing is just luck. unusual.

lanka says he has a plan for this so i guess we'll see.

random events:

more markata, we'll find a use for them.

luck scales vindicated once again, despite the natterings of naysayers.

let's check in with our friends and neighbors.

talking to ermor:
5:07 PM] filthincarnate: okay question
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: so
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: ubar just broke tc's siege
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: are you over the border yet
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: re ermor
[5:08 PM] weedzmin: if you mean ulm, yes
[5:09 PM] weedzmin: i saw the ubar fight, not sure what happened there. TC had their demons scripted to retreat immediately, it looked like?
[5:09 PM] weedzmin: very weird
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate: no
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate: what happened was:
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate: ubar assassinated tc's magic leader
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate:
if you mean ulm, yes
right yes sorry
[5:12 PM] filthincarnate: i know who you are, i'm just not good at these mushy names
[5:13 PM] weedzmin: ulmor, erm, etc
[5:13 PM] weedzmin: i thought masters of the dead had magic leadership but i guess not, that's pretty funny
[5:13 PM] filthincarnate: they can lead the dead
[5:20 PM] filthincarnate: hmm well ideal situation for i think both of us is ulm attacks ubar's cap with his throne stack
[5:21 PM] weedzmin: he will probably not do that since i'm in his cap circle
[5:23 PM] filthincarnate: lam
[5:23 PM] filthincarnate: e
[5:23 PM] filthincarnate: ubar might rampage now, hmmm

looks like ermor's not lying re: being in ulm's cap circle. remember how i said this was a knife fight, well, it is.

well poo poo, idk what's gonna happen to ubar now.

talking to ramc:
[4:53 PM] filthincarnate: eventful turn
[4:53 PM] filthincarnate: check it
[4:57 PM] Ramc: guessing the guy with magic leader for TC got assassin'd
[4:57 PM] filthincarnate: ooooooooooooh
[4:57 PM] filthincarnate: makes sense
****editor's note: ramc was the one who figured it out, these turn reports are cobbled together out of order, sue me*****
[4:59 PM] Ramc: nice free troops
[4:59 PM] Ramc: looks like naba cap army is probably ulms problem
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: well
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: ermor is invading ulm
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: like rn
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: :grimacing:
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: i'm supposed to join in at some pont
[5:07 PM] Ramc: oh boy
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: it's a mess
[5:07 PM] filthincarnate: yes
:07 PM] filthincarnate: yes
[5:34 PM] filthincarnate: hmmm so
[5:34 PM] filthincarnate: do i make diplomatic contact with ubar
[5:34 PM] filthincarnate: or what
[5:39 PM] filthincarnate: well okay so here's my main question rn
[5:39 PM] filthincarnate: i have 25 cap-only sacreds here
[5:39 PM] filthincarnate: do i move them north, toward ubar
[5:39 PM] filthincarnate: or south, toward ulm
[5:43 PM] filthincarnate: i guess toward ubar
[5:43 PM] filthincarnate: i want the cap, in the end, so

talking to ulm:
[5:30 PM] filthincarnate: ooh uh you may want to check this turn
[5:32 PM] filthincarnate: ermor's making moves
[6:47 PM] VendoViper: fukin pricks
[7:36 PM] filthincarnate: what's the story
[7:36 PM] filthincarnate: i can't see it very well
[7:36 PM] VendoViper: He took 3 provs of Pd, no real damage
[7:37 PM] VendoViper: And since I’ve taken no losses to ubar....
[7:37 PM] filthincarnate: yeah you're pretty meaty rn
[7:37 PM] VendoViper: It’s just a matter of matching his moves
[7:37 PM] filthincarnate: mmm
[7:37 PM] filthincarnate: what's he fielding?
[7:40 PM] VendoViper: Haven’t had a chance to look close
[7:40 PM] VendoViper: But sacreds and hastati
[7:40 PM] VendoViper: In three groups
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: oh the cav sacreds?
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: jbrere buffed those
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: i think
[7:41 PM] VendoViper: I wish I had a better thug chassis but some conans are going to have to step up to raid
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: hmmm does this change your plans re: ubar
[7:41 PM] filthincarnate: i'm trying to figure out what to do if ubar lunges
[7:47 PM] VendoViper: Retreat to fight ermor
[7:48 PM] filthincarnate: makes sense
[7:48 PM] filthincarnate: hmmm
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: well i....guess i can take ubar?
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: if it comes to that
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: idk what he'll do
[7:49 PM] VendoViper: I mean we will see
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: i have magic now and he hasn't had time to research
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: ya
[7:49 PM] VendoViper: My stacks are invisible
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: :ghost:
[7:49 PM] VendoViper: So they don’t know where I am
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: 👻
[7:49 PM] filthincarnate: it's true

My notes say:
****note: okay, so ulm and ermor are now at war. we'll sandbag as long as possible and then pick the winning side***

talking to tien chi:
5:25 PM] filthincarnate: mmmm
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: did he get your celestial master, ubar, with the assassination
[5:25 PM] filthincarnate: he tried that with me but my dudes are Buff
[5:26 PM] filthincarnate: i could forge you some salt if you don't have easy earth access, it's pretty cheap
[5:26 PM] filthincarnate: lmk
[8:12 PM] beardbeard: do ubar assassinations just delete the commander
[8:12 PM] beardbeard: thats hosed up
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: oh
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: no
[8:12 PM] beardbeard: oh theyre seducers huh
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: he seduced it
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: ya
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: oh you lost your guy?
[8:12 PM] filthincarnate: lame
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: he has a celestial master now i guess
[8:13 PM] beardbeard: yeah he got the celestial master and master of the dead
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: alas
[8:13 PM] beardbeard: update: immortality works in the arena
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: he tried that vs my prophet and my prophet dispatched a shaytan in melee
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: i got lucky tho
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate:
update: immortality works in the arena
ty good to know
[8:13 PM] filthincarnate: anyway are you thinking of taking another crack at the cap
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: ulm is next in line but ermor just surprise invaded him
[8:14 PM] beardbeard: yeah ive got a full batch of demons
[8:14 PM] beardbeard: lol
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: yep
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: so
[8:14 PM] beardbeard: well ill give him his turn, assuming he takes it before i get there
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: no i mean he's not gonna take his turn ya
[8:14 PM] filthincarnate: he's moving his stuff out
[8:15 PM] beardbeard: ah
[8:15 PM] beardbeard: i just realized celestial masters are morale 11
[8:15 PM] beardbeard: thats hosed up
[8:15 PM] beardbeard: oh 10 base
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: oooh
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: that's
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: gonna be an issue
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: yeah
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: hm
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: i mean......i could always go for the cap :eyes:
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: seems like youre next in line frankly
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: enjoy your desert
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: hmmm
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: :wow:
[8:16 PM] beardbeard: fuckin thing sucks
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: haha
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: yeah
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: idk
[8:16 PM] filthincarnate: i'll think about it
[8:17 PM] filthincarnate: you're welcome to move your poo poo down, this war has already been game-losing for ubar
[8:17 PM] filthincarnate: if we keep the pressure on he eventually folds
[8:17 PM] beardbeard: ive never had to properly fight ubar
[8:17 PM] filthincarnate: me neither
[8:17 PM] beardbeard: crushing their cap is a drat chore
[8:17 PM] beardbeard: with the desert and seducers
[8:17 PM] beardbeard: seems like one of those nations you just go for the domkill on
[8:17 PM] filthincarnate: my prophet killed the shaytan ungeared
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: but i've got full gear now
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: including salt
[8:18 PM] beardbeard: lol
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: it's apparently a melee weapon
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: the salt
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: aoe1
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: so
[8:18 PM] beardbeard: yeah
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: we'll see what ubar does
[8:18 PM] filthincarnate: like the main thing is that stack of camels
[8:19 PM] filthincarnate: once that dies he's got no army left and killing him is trivial

well, this war is getting messier than I'd like it to be. Ideally ubar would be dead before we backstabbed ulm, but because surprise guest tien chi boxed ermor out of the ubar war, ermor is pursuing his Rational Self-Interest and messing up my dogpile before ubar's totally dead. and those seducer/assassins ubar's got are making the coup de grace hard.

in light of this i don't think we'll make infrastructure on our new fort yet. i genuinely don't know what ubar's next move is, so we're going to play it cagey.

in other news, lanka paid us for some gear and we forged it. here it is:

for these two items we were collectively paid 19 astral and 1 earth. he wanted mr resistance gear, for his god.

that's the turn. it's looking more and more like taking ubar's cap might fall to us. getting into a fair fight is not usually how i like to play things, but it might not be avoidable at this point. we'll get ready.

I have no notion how, or more importantly why to play Yomi in Dom5.
The changes they made to the nation make it feel like you're running with concrete shoes and a lead prince Albert.

yeah i find them absolutely unplayable, and i only play bad nations, so. just terrible.

some people apparently disagree however.
