lol. I’ve been following COVID news perhaps too much and had never heard of her until the search video. Looking at her twitter, it had a lot of weird ted flags.

She was interviewed on NPR mid-summer or so about the time that covid started to spike in FL. Initially FL didn't do as bad as NY, WA and LA had but once it started picking up across the south FL went up fast. DeSantis initially made a lot of metrics for shutting things down etc but then when it looked like they were going to blow right past them the state basically went to the FL DoH and was pressuring them to change the numbers or call a lot of different ones ambiguous. She (according to her interview on NPR) eventually got told point blank to change some of the numbers because an independent auditing group (presumably hired by the FL state gov) was telling the DoH that they were overcounting. Magically each county that was close to getting shutdown had their numbers go lower once they stepped in.

She got fired pretty abruptly after refusing to change stuff and then set up an independent portal based on data from her individual contacts in counties etc.

You're launching a lot more weight for a large flying reentry vehicle vs recouping the expensive first stage engines.

It ends up being a lot cheaper and easier to refurb between launches and you launch a lot more payload into orbit because you're not launching wings and poo poo

https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/providing-police-military-gear-reduce-crime-protect-officers/story

quote:

Two independent studies have drawn the same conclusions: billions of dollars in surplus military equipment, including armored vehicles and high-powered rifles, that have been transferred by the federal government to thousands of U.S. police departments have not reduced crime or increased officer safety.

[sic]

"The collective assessment of the two studies is that ... the distribution (of military equipment) to local law enforcement doesn’t seem to affect one way or the other. It doesn’t reduce crime, it doesn’t lead to an increase in crime. It doesn’t seem to reduce officer injuries. It doesn’t seem to increase them either," Clark said.

[sic]

Lowande said he examined 3.8 million archived inventory records for his study and found that much of the equipment sat unused, malfunctioned or was given away to other law enforcement agencies and no longer properly accounted for.

"When you look at those types of police department’s crime rates over time, you don’t see any differences," Lowande said.

He said that after the Obama administration's rollback on the 1033 program -- which he described as mostly "symbolic" -- there was no evidence it impacted the crime rate.

“So, if this equipment was playing a big role in reducing crime in those areas, you would have expected to see crime go up and it just didn’t," Lowande said.

Clark said his team's study found that due to lax record-keeping, it was difficult to determine how much of the equipment was actually being used by police departments.

"Our findings suggest this program, which is roughly 30 years old, isn’t actually contributing to public safety," Clark told ABC News.

I'd say lower than most think. Donnie's demanding credit for the vaccines, so he won't shut up about them.

It's possible that the chuddy class still rejects getting it, but the Donnie class is going to be calling it the Trump Vaccine for years.

It'll probably be the usual antivaxx folks (lefty UNPURE and righty GOVERNMENT GET OUT REEEE), plus some skeptical people until the healthcare folks get the first doses and turn out fine.

That's a growing demographic. I'd bet at minimum you're looking at 20% of the adult population opting not to vaccinate and I'd put money on it being closer to 30-35%

I essentially agree, with the caveat that most of that new skeptic class just doesn't want to be first, from what I've seen. They don't like the accelerated development schedule, but they're not antivaxxers, so they'd rather wait for a few months to see what happens to the first people getting doses.

Yeah that's fair and honestly up until a couple weeks ago I would be one of them as well despite being in the biotech field.

Sadly though the larger antivaxx group has been growing rapidly especially since 2016. Having Kennedy and other idiots being elevated in status and having a literal antivaxxer in charge of the country has quickened the pace of a lot of harm there.

It's more that they're gonna work good for some stuff, and not as good as just injecting a protein (or carbohydrate) antigen for others.

Comes down to things like where you need the antigen produced, how much those cells can take that mRNA and crank out antigen before they are inactivated / turn over etc.

It's great that they work here, but we have a lot of different vaccine types still in use for a reason and that's because that each disease is different and there's no 'one size fits all' immune response to find.

Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller ordered a Pentagon-wide halt to cooperation with the transition of President-elect Biden, shocking officials across the Defense Department, senior administration officials tell Axios.

Behind the scenes: A top Biden official was unaware of the directive. Administration officials left open the possibility cooperation would resume after a holiday pause. The officials were unsure what prompted Miller's action, or whether President Trump approved.

Why it matters: Miller's move, which stunned officials throughout the Pentagon, was the biggest eruption yet of animus and mistrust toward the Biden team from the top level of the Trump administration.

What happened: Meetings between President Trump's team and the Biden team are going on throughout the government, after a delayed start as the administration dragged its feet on officially recognizing Biden as president-elect.

Then on Thursday night, Miller — who was appointed Nov. 9, when Trump fired Defense Secretary Mark Esper right after the election — ordered officials throughout the building to cancel scheduled transition meetings.

Pentagon official response: A senior Defense Department official sought to downplay the move, calling it "a simple delay of the last few scheduled meetings until after the new year."

Why is it always the anesthesiologists with the billing scam? Does their school tell them they can get away with it because they only see patients at their most vulnerable?

Just spitballing here but I would guess it's because for even simple procedures with a general anesthesia they are another MD in the room and depending on the type of hospital / system will float between different clinics / wards meaning that their billing and pay structure are probably different than that of whatever doctor you're being operated on by.

The most annoying ones are the "bill from the hospital" followed weeks or months later by the "bill from the doctor". Had one of those that was the exact same amount and both came on the same letterhead so I assumed it was a duplicate until I started getting some really angry voicemails from collections people.
