Trump's attempt to take troops out of Germany was bad and dumb but this is definitely a step in the right direction. https://www.stripes.com/news/africa/trump-orders-the-withdrawal-of-the-majority-of-us-troops-in-somalia-1.654243 Unfortunately, it's probably going to be the only step. Somalia is a policy failure and money pit and an incredible object lesson in "sunk cost fallacy." We really should recognize Somaliland and just leave Mogadishu to re-collapse.

I guess most people don’t want to go to jail for the rest of their life potentially? I don't want it to happen either, but... The chuds have been showing up armed to protest or counter-protest for years with the purpose of intimidating the opposition. It's been an axiom to them that liberals are afraid of guns and will never offer any armed resistance to them. So it's unfortunately necessary for antifa to start arming themselves to protect the rights of liberals and leftists to protest, since the cops sure as poo poo won't. So picture yourself doing that job. You're carrying at an antifa event, chuds show up to try and bully the protesters away. Some dumbfuck draws and starts aiming at unarmed protesters. What do you do?

Discussion Quorum posted:This roughly parallels a realization I had a little while back. The resistance movements of WW2 were able to accomplish a lot through blending in and/or being able to hide out in relatively remote places with the help of a generally supportive population. If it got to this point I'd be long gone. I'm more concerned about modern day Klan rides with coal rolling flag pickups.

That Works posted:She was interviewed on NPR mid-summer or so about the time that covid started to spike in FL. Initially FL didn't do as bad as NY, WA and LA had but once it started picking up across the south FL went up fast. DeSantis initially made a lot of metrics for shutting things down etc but then when it looked like they were going to blow right past them the state basically went to the FL DoH and was pressuring them to change the numbers or call a lot of different ones ambiguous. She (according to her interview on NPR) eventually got told point blank to change some of the numbers because an independent auditing group (presumably hired by the FL state gov) was telling the DoH that they were overcounting. Magically each county that was close to getting shutdown had their numbers go lower once they stepped in. Yeah, it looks like she did good work there but I'm not going to automatically believe her if she says she wasn't illegally accessing government servers.

F- would not recommend. Before I deployed to Africa, I got a nicely spaced set of shots which didn't make it into my records. So they gave me three at once.
