After a period of adjustment I have said goodbye to my initial expectations for Cyberpunk 2077 and am now having a whole lot of fun playing Anime Ninja Simulator. You can play too, just follow these steps:

1. Crank that Reflex stat as high as it will go. Also find clothes that increase your movement speed, the goal is to move as fast as possible.
2. Start working on the Cool and Body stats (don’t put any points into the other two, crafting and hacking are for suckers who like to spend time on things)
3: start putting perk points into things that situationally increase your move speed. Moving faster on entering combat? Yes please. All 5 stacks of Cold Blood? Yep. Moving faster when you’re discovered by an enemy? Of course!
4. Get the Dynalar Sandevistan Mk III. DO NOT GET ANY OTHER MODEL. It seems counterintuitive but the Mk III slows time the most and has a wicked small cooldown, which are way more valuable than the extra mod slot and crit bonuses.
5. Get the biggest gently caress-off Katana you can find. There’s a legendary one sold by the coach guy in your building, it’s expensive but boy does it work well. Get a bunch of Blades perks that increase damage for your strong attack and on people at full health.

Now you have everything you need, so let ‘er rip! Whenever you find some people that need killing, just run headlong at them, then trigger your time slowing and whip out your katana once you’re in range of the first enemy and get to slashing with your strong attack! With a strong enough sword and the right perks, you should be able to pop the head off of pretty much anyone who isn’t a boss/cyberpsycho in one strong attack, and once you get your first kill in the encounter, your speed should be boosted to the point that you’re keeping your regular speed while everyone else is moving in half-time. At this point if you chain kills correctly you can kill everyone before they have a chance to get their weapon out or even see you. On really successful runs, I like to imagine three or four simultaneous blood spurts from the neck holes of my enemies once I get to the other side of the encounter, just like an anime ninja.

The thing to fix is to finally put it on a 50% off sale so I'll buy it

They are literally selling new physical copies for consoles for :10bux: this week at Target, if that’s not a price to jump in at I don’t know what is. Unplug your console from the internet, enjoy the pure unfiltered jank of the launch build, then set it aside until they next-gen it up unless it speaks to you enough that you want to keep going where it’s at. I’d say $10 is a good price or admission for that.

(Or don’t listen to me I bought a copy of Anthem new for $5 because I thought it was funny)

If you own a console you shouldn’t pay more than 10 bucks for Cyberpunk because either you’re playing a game that barely runs on old hardware or you’re playing a game that runs fine but doesn’t really take advantage of the new hardware and they’re working on an actual next-gen console version so you might as well wait until the game is in a proper state. There’s no use playing an unfinished product. At this point anyone who was hyped or interested enough to want to play a beta already has the game, if you still don’t, just wait. Note that none of this applies to the PC version because I think it already has most of the stuff that will be in a next-gen version, meaning the biggest reason to hold off is gone.

I say 10 because it’s already been down to $10 and I’d be willing to bet money that it will be $10 again at some point before year’s end.

The whole thesis of the video is that he played the game, enjoyed himself and felt there were lots of strong moments but also felt that many aspects of the game were hollow due to either the way development happened, the way the hue train built up an experience that was never actually gonna happen or just the way they designed the game.

Which is basically where I ended up

I still maintain a decent "story-based" action RPG needs needs to branch off twice into two directions at some points in the first half of the game (once around the first quarter and again at half-time), leading to four complete different story lines in the second half. And not disclose that before release of the game, so that people rushing through it are like wtf.

However no one's gonna do that ever.

Fire Emblem: 3 Houses does something similar to this, although not to quite the extent you’ve outlined. At the beginning you pick one of the titular 3 Houses, generally based on which house leader you like best because most of the other characters are recruitable no matter which path you take. The first half of the game has roughly the same events, but you’re with a different set of students depending on your house. There’s a good amount of crossover, like faculty members and non-students who can be recruited on all paths, and you can interact with and get to know all of the students in each one, but of course since you’re basically the teacher from Stand and Deliver with a cool sword, whichever house you’re teaching is the one that things happen to.

Then, the game drops you off a cliff and you go comatose for 5 years, at which point each of the three houses has a different story, sometimes radically so. The second half of the game revolves around, among other things, one of the three nations on the continent trying to take over the land, and you often end up in battle with students who weren’t in your house and ended up on a different side of the war, meaning you might end up killing someone who would be a part of your team if you had picked a different route. The routes only occasionally share missions, and it gets to the point where there’s one path where you barely engage at all with the shadowy group pulling the strings until the last mission where they show up out of nowhere and you just kinda kill them when they pop up and have to go “wait who the gently caress was that?” And as if that wasn’t enough, for one of the three routes there is a “secret” second choice you can make right before the midpoint where if your relationship with your house leader is strong enough, she will ask you to join her revolution, which is what you would be fighting against in the other paths. You then run through a completely new second part of the game, which is notoriously shorter than the rest and unfinished due to it being a kind of last minute addition.

These path differences were absolutely not mentioned ahead of time, and the time jump itself and half of the game being set 5 years later was not mentioned in any of the pre-release material. Each route has things that are only mentioned there, and the actual origin of the conflict is only spelled out on about half of them, so the people at launch who picked different houses were comparing notes and going “wait what they never told me that”. The writing is definitely not perfect and there are still to this day deep, divisive arguments about whether the antagonist has a point which almost always boil down to which story you did first, because that’s almost certainly the one you paid most attention to. It was a very ballsy thing for a game to do and more games should do it.

No one is actually arguing for a loving hard timer they’re saying that the devs should picked whether they wanted a game that people could spend tens of hours exploring and doing side quests or a story with a real immediate sense of urgency because when you put them together like Cyberpunk did it’s just dissonant and rings false

All open world games with a plot have this problem, all of the open world poo poo and side missions about boxing are obviously much less important and time critical than the stated primary plot. Games that are totally on rails don't have this problem, but it kinda just comes with the genre.

But they should probably not exacerbate that fact

Like, Skyrim is a game where the main plot is almost comically unimportant compared to the loving around but they didn’t have the guy in charge of Whiterun send you off with “…and the dragons are gonna all come and eat everyone in 14 sunsets”. There are ways to make this weigh less on the player’s brain and they did the polar opposite

Anyone get this weird blue digital pulsing in the game? It's happening every couple seconds after rescuing Evelyn - I thought it was story related or something but it's literally every 2 seconds. I've tried all kinds of dumb tricks from other people complaining about similar issues (sleeping, getting the character drunk, resetting graphics settings) but it really won't go away and I can't loving play the game with this constant cycling.

Edit: and 2 seconds isn't an embellishment, the screen will look great for 500ms then this blue digital pulse washes over everything and fades out. Even the map does some wave bullshit during it.

This is a 2.0 specific version of this glitch that can’t be fixed with the old methods. I had to jump back to my last save in Clouds before you take the elevator down. There’s one answer in the conversation you have with Johnny that will leave that effect on seemingly permanently, so go back to before that and just don’t pick “you’re more hosed in the head than I am”. This is the temporary fix I saw from a dev on the CDPR forum.

edit: I didn’t try going on and finding another quest that ends this way so you could try that but it might be a waste of time. I lost about an hour since I realized it was a bug rather than a purposeful thing right about the same place you’re at.

There’s a specific phrase you pick in the conversation with Johnny in the elevator down after the Clouds mission that seems to be the cause. On the off chance anyone in here hasn’t gotten there or sees this and wants to know what to avoid, it’s “you’re as hosed in the head as I am”. Anything else should avoid the glitch.

As a female V, I really feel like Panam was giving me mixed signals tbh.

Going through the Panam questline the second time as SheV gave me a new understanding of what gay women mean when they talk about falling for straight friends despite the fact they really should know better. In the initial meeting where they end up at the motel I didn’t even make the joke (that would immediately become not a joke depending on the answer) about sharing a room because I knew that there’s no romance as female V but by the time I got to we are trapped in this abandoned shack and we’re on the couch flirting and you just put your legs up on my lap i took my shot despite knowing what would happen because I mean come on

I feel like Judy seems to act differently towards Male V than Female V in a way that Panam doesn’t. It would make sense in the context of the game; Judy spends a lot of time around sex workers and porn which I imagine exposes her to a whole lot of male awfulness that would make her more reticent to trust men that she doesn’t know. Panam on the other hand treats potential love interest Male V and potential BFF (where none of the Fs stand for loving) Female V the exact same until the conversation where the “if female-presenting say ‘uh no let’s not’. (and then continues to treat them the same until she fucks male V in a cool tank)

Yep, it seems like they did it very intentionally because his entire chatter about Clouds is ruthless as gently caress.

Yeah going through Judy’s quest line lays his hypocrisy real bare, Judy is quite literally doing the thing that he claims to want everyone else to do (taking the reins of power away from the upper class and giving it to the people) and the entire time he’s basically like “ugh why are you doing this this is so dumb she’s gonna gently caress you over they’re just whores who gives a poo poo about them” despite the fact that regularly advocates for you doing much dumber poo poo for no reason other than “gently caress don’t you want to see what happens next?”

It's mostly for immersion. There's all these big franchises, the very least they ought to be enterable, if still non-interactive. PCG would allow to vary the interior decor accordingly to room shape and poo poo. Same reason I like huge worlds, because immersion for me personally. Stuff like cramped Poland city square (or whatever it was) in DX:HR is just feels terrible.

Also, Starfield didn't even attempt procedural variation in their POIs, and is generally wildly different and inferior to what Epic demonstrated their stuff is capable.

This is another advantage of reusing Night City rather than creating a new map, they can keep all the interiors they’ve made for the original and PL and just keep crafting new interiors as they make sequels and DLC, which means the city gets the best of both worlds.

The sex scene with Alt ranked pretty high on my list of discomforting moments. Mostly because I kinda loathed Johnny getting some while acting like such a prick to her, which you don't really have a choice but to be.

This feeling actually makes the alt one the most realistic because that’s roughly what V is feeling at the moment. The other sex scenes are just you watching V gently caress in first person through their perspective so the alt scene is basically making V feel experience what the player has been experiencing all game and feeling how the player feels
