The bit about shotguns is a pretty common thing that I've seen various places, and there appears to be at least a bit of truth to it; https://www.historynet.com/the-1918-shotgun-protest.htm Also "sedated bayonets" is top tier.

White Coke posted:The Russians developed a fulminating bullet in the 1860s and aside from that they did I haven’t been able to find anything out about it. Can anyone explain what a fulminating bullet is, or how it works? How is it distinct, if at all, from other forms of explosives? Could it mean an explosive round using this as the explosive; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury(II)_fulminate

https://www.loc.gov/resource/hhh.id0269.photos?st=gallery A bunch of pictures of the gigantic hangar they built out in Idaho for the nuclear powered aircraft program that never got off the ground (heh). The hangar is still there, it's used as part of one of the sites on INL, but I'm not sure what for specifically. edit: from looking at one of the drawings the interior space is 300 feet wide, so you could get a B-36 in with 70 feet to spare.
