My stuff is a whole lot more low dollar than yours, but I can *not* put a dirty rusty part back on a car. Not trying to doxx you, but Texas + 2019 tornado says that you're not far from DFW. I only mention this, because I'm in DFW myself. Howdy, neighbor! There are several AI goons here-ish, though I've only met STR, myself, and he's since moved his poo poo to Austin. edit: I look forward to the time I can retire and work on all the projects I've been slowly

bird cooch posted:Oh I'm not concerned with that . I'm active enough online that anybody looking through my stuff can find out where I'm at pretty quick. I'm up in Denton. we had an F1 literally touchdown in my yard while I was mowing and hit my shop and then bounce off through some neighboring fields and dissipate. funnily enough I had been out storm chasing for a few weeks before that and the one I finally got to see was too close for me to even make it out other than being a giant wall of dirt and my roof. O.o Good Lord. I'd like to see a tornado once, but certainly not that close. quote:Rona is a thing so that's kind of an issue but generally I'm always down to hang out and do car stuff with whoever and help out on broken stuff and projects. My dad did pegboard on the wall of his storage building that weren't covered by racking. Fantastic idea. You can even still screw stuff to it either using the spaces between, or the screw-in drywall anchors.

ought ten posted:I know less than zero about this stuff. Are those I beam chain hoists expensive? A little impractical I guess if you're trying to move something in more than one dimension. The gantry crane itself is about $700 from Harbor Freight: https://www.harborfreight.com/1-ton-telescoping-gantry-crane-41188.html Then you need a hoist or chain fall for around $75: https://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-chain-hoist-631.html You’ll notice that the gantry has wheels, and that the attachment point for the hoist rolls along the beam, so you can move things around.

angryrobots posted:Built in overhead beam trolleys with a chain hoist are neat, but require a lot of pre planning with the structure if you want them to have really useful lift capacity, and are limited in that you have to get the work right under the beam. The trolley crane systems that combine a beam trolley that can also move laterally are $$$$$ to $$$$$$+. It’s not that bad. Think of a trolley crane in a garage or small shop like a pair of gantry cranes connected by a beam. Neither needs to be powered in that environment, so you just need 3 beams, and four posts, plus the trollies, which will probably be the expensive part. It can be retrofitted, if you have space.

SWAG offroad makes some nifty press brakes, both kits and fully assembled. They can be upgraded to finger brakes, or purchased that way to begin with. https://www.swagoffroad.com/SWAG-Press-Brake-Kits_c_53.html I'd like one of the finger brakes intended for a Chinese (i.e.: Harbor Freight) presses, since that's what I currently have. Also, I want one of their 3D printed knobs for the jack thereon. I'd print one myself, but my 3D printer is currently in development hell somewhere in China.

Well this is going to be an entertaining adventure. edit: and those engine mounts are lovely. edit2: you're insane to bring a car from PA to TX. Not because of distance, but because why would you bring that bad salt juju here? Darchangel fucked around with this message at 23:45 on Feb 2, 2021 |

Alarbus posted:It just snowed a bunch so it'll have fresh salt and moisture! Maybe it'll shed some salt for when you all get another ice storm. It's amusing watching Northerners who think "eh, it's a few inches of snow - just go drive" realize that Texas rarely gets *just* snow. We get ice, or snow that melts and refreezes into ice, *then* snow on top of that. Plus, we never have snow tires, chains, etc., or experience driving on snow/ice, so, while they laugh, it's much safer to just stay home. bird cooch posted:If you're wondering how much a rusty Ridgeline is worth, well it isn't worth this much. Not gonna lie - I want to eat all those horrible snacks. Good thing the nearest Buc-ee's to me is the one outside the Motor Speedway, and that's a good 30 miles from the house. edit: I'm bummed that it hasn't snowed here enough to actually leave anything on the roads for the last two years. I bought a Subaru, and have yet to be able to do AWD snow drifts. Darchangel fucked around with this message at 21:12 on Feb 3, 2021 |

Stay warm. We’re hiding out at my mother in law’s in Dallas, where there is power. I’m usually over by DFW airport, but we gave up Monday when we lost power at 7:30 am, and still not back by 9 pm. Still not back now (11 pm Tuesday). ERCOT can go to hell.

Do that regardless, especially since that turd made comments about "this is what happens when Dems set energy policy" back when California was being asked to conserve power during their ferocious even-hot-by-Texas-standards summer. Several TX Republicans did that, in fact, and they all deserve to get that thrown back in their faces repeatedly, at high velocity. Our '04 Outback has handled the snowpocalypse really well, despite the lack of proper snow tires (Hankook all seasons.) Once I replaced the marginal battery, that is. Between the cold and me leaving a map light on, it shat itself. Good Lord, I hope ERCOT gets its poo poo together soon.
