I like my top end across positions (hoping Pastrnak comes back sooner than later and doesn't suck), but I missed out on some of the later round guys I was targeting which is how I ended up with 3 Calgary defenders lol. My goaltending is weaker than I'd like, hoping quantity can make up for quality.

I trolled a little and took way too many Penguins but I also think despite that my team is pretty solid. I don't see any real holes. Maybe I'm a little light on hits/blocks on d. We'll see. I did start with a pretty good base though with Guentzel/Tkcahuk as keepers.

it took 4 hours but I am reasonably satisfied with this team. Ended up with four Bruins but I guess there are worse teams to stack, and I really only took Studnicka because he's playing on the fisrt line until Pastrnak is healthy. Pastrnak and Tarasenko get put on IR immediately and there are plenty of good value players to fill their spots with, so we'll see who I pick up on waivers this week. I'm happy I got both of them even if they are on IR to start, it might hurt me a little bit this year but at those prices they'll be excellent keepers moving forward. Chandler Stephenson is a guy I was surprised no one tried to take from me. He's playing on Vegas' top line with Stone and Pacioretty and it sounds like that spot is all but locked for him.

I, uh, didn't really go into the draft with any set strategy and kind of fell into one of bullying people out of mid-tier names (to get that sweet, sweet C eligibility) after I missed out on all the superstars. I think I did alright, but I'm going to need some folks to really overperform, because otherwise I'm sitting on a lot of good but not great guys.

3. (53) Kirill Kaprizov (Min - LW) $34
4. (60) Jack Hughes (NJ - C,LW) $31

17. (229) Antti Raanta  (Ari - G) $14
18. (230) Carter Hart  (Phi - G) $3

This strategy wasn't foolproof. I had targeted Tkachuk and Dubois, but they went for more than I was expecting. I also paid more for some defenders than I was expecting, but I had already decided on those guys beforehand. Basically, once I missed out on Dubois, I knew who I was targeting, so I decided to outbid everyone on those players.

Kucherov fell into my lap. Unless he just never rebounds, he's probably going to my keeper for the next few seasons. Hope some other guys can make a name for themselves.

I felt like I had to do this because my keeper situation for the past seasons has been dreadful.

Really wanted to get in on the top level guys, but the yahoo mobile app is hosed for auction drafts, so I missed the first 15 or so guys. Dropped like (imo) $10 too much on Scheifele to compensate but whatever. Was hoping to get one of the autobid teams to grab Parise at the end but it didn't work out and need to drop him for a D. Really happy with Buch and Gurianov as my $1 fliers and Pearson is another decently-high-ceiling-for-a-$1-guy who I also wouldn't lose too much sleep over cutting loose for a hot WW add. I'm not too concerned about Carey after the long layoff last summer and the shorter season this year, hoping that he and Markstrom will get the lion's share of their team's starts in a not very good Canadian division. Forsberg and Oshie seem like a bit of a bargain at <$30, and Barzal and Schenn seem like they could have gone for a little more in a league with a $500 budget. Mantha at $6 could be nice if he doesn't get hurt (lol) and has blessed me with my 2021 rebrand.

14. (214) David Krejci (Bos - C) $2
15. (235) Mikko Rantanen KEEPER (Col - RW)$4
16. (236) Miro Heiskanen KEEPER (Dal - D) $8
17. (237) Mika Zibanejad KEEPER (NYR - C) $77
18. (238) Igor Shesterkin KEEPER (NYR - G)$2

- I'm really happy with my defense, lots of good all-around numbers there. I'm banking on Dumba and Trouba having bounce-back seasons, but I think they will, especially Trouba.
- Peterson at $23 was because I was being outbid on every other worthwhile goalie, and he was the last decent goalie up. I think he will outplay Quick and be the starter in LA by season's end and I really like him and had money to spare.
- I also hope Rinne bounces back.
- I think I got Arvidsson for cheap - when he's healthy, he's a lock for a poo poo ton of offense.
- I love Devon Toews and he's paired with Makar to start the season, so I feel like he's going to be a steal at $9.

We'll see how I do, I think I have a balanced team, and if Igor/Peterson play enough games, my goaltending should be alright.

jakes did this?
The shortness of the season made for some interesting bids on guys out long term who will make great cheap keepers next year (Kucherov, Tarasenko, etc). I think it will be hard to stash guys like that given that there aren't many IR slots in the HHL, and that there is likely to be a lot of people going in and out of IR this year with Covid, but it's an interesting strategy.

To sign them is my real test

With full no movement clause
I was targeting those guys to do the same thing, but after Barzal and Schenn went to me at (imo) a bargain, I blew all my cash and was just waiting around for people to fill out their rosters so I could grab my last guys from the scrap heap

There were a few guys in the last third of the draft that were going cheaper than they should and I really wanted to pounce on but ended up being a few bucks short because moose is a dink and bid me up earlier in the draft. Arvy was definitely one of them. I got him pretty late in LSL and am very stoked about it.

This was my first time doing an auction draft. I hope Stamkos doesn't break and ruin everything. It would have cost me $30 more to keep him so I'm telling myself it will be fine. I guess with this format an expensive player getting hurt is actually easier to drop than a cheap one who relatively overperforms.

1. (21) Steven Stamkos (TB - LW,RW) $98
2. (36) Gabriel Landeskog (Col - C,LW) $69
3. (44) Brady Tkachuk (Ott - LW) $77
4. (83) Timo Meier (SJ - LW,RW) $20
5. (86) Jonathan Marchessault (VGK - C,LW) $28
6. (89) Jeff Petry (Mon - D) $23
7. (94) Anthony Duclair (Fla - LW,RW) $10
8. (100) Jamie Benn (Dal - C,LW) $48
9. (113) David Perron (StL - LW,RW) $21
10. (153) Boone Jenner (Cls - C,LW) $11
11. (164) Vincent Trocheck (Car - C) $27
12. (173) Mark Borowiecki (Nsh - D) $12
13. (177) Erik Cernak (TB - D) $16
14. (185) Matt Grzelcyk (Bos - D) $15

16. (270) Darnell Nurse  (Edm - D) $6
17. (271) Linus Ullmark  (Buf - G) $2

Man, I think that's going to be an extremely strong team even if he gets hurt, Brady is so good in this format.

Another reminder of my massive gently caress-up. My team with Brady Tkachuk and Marchand on it would be seriously good.

Was Tkachuk only going to cost you $3? Ouch.

You have a good collection of keepers, so it's not the end of the world.

Yep. That's such a huge value loss. Lesson learned, sometimes I just don't know about stuff like hit totals.

My keepers are great and I like my team a lot, but Tkachuk is a tough pill to swallow.

But Shesterkin for $2 and Rantanen for $4 cheer me up.

3. (13) Mike Hoffman (StL - LW,RW) $23
4. (27) Tomas Hertl (SJ - C,LW) $43
5. (40) Philipp Grubauer (Col - G) $55

9. (91) Jonathan Toews (Chi - C) $1
10. (102) Jaccob Slavin (Car - D) $17
11. (115) Ryan Johansen (Nsh - C) $17
12. (171) Duncan Keith (Chi - D) $7

15. (257) Tony DeAngelo  (NYR - D) $2
16. (258) Ilya Samsonov  (Was - G) $2
17. (259) John Carlson  (Was - D) $34
18. (260) Mark Stone  (VGK - RW) $14

Overall I'm fairly happy with this. Went in hard early and spent a lot of money on Matthews/Ovechkin but I think they might be worth it this year. I drafted Toews thinking he'd be back in like a month but who knows. At least I can stash him on IR and just drop him if necessary. I don't really have any issue with any of the picks tbh, and guys like OEL and Gallagher feel like real good value. Even the autodraft guys I got (Hyman and Martinez) could be useful.

Don’t you sign up for a ton of Yahoo baseball leagues too? Cheers to you, friendo. I dunno how you muster the give-a-gently caress over a long season for all those leagues but it is impressive.

I do, yeah. I am trying to cut back on the number of leagues, but if this is any indication, I am failing miserably and will do a fuckton of baseball leagues.

My favourite moment in the HHL was prior to the 2017 season, when I was getting tired of how slow the draft was going, and gave Corey Perry a bid of $60.

No one else put in a bid, and I realized I made a huge mistake.

I probably should have kept him as a keeper, but I had to go with Yamamoto... (but maybe I should have dropped korpisalo instead, hmm)

Meanwhile I'm here deciding if I just want to keep Zegras for the entire season even though he's in the AHL, just in case.
