Has Nikita ever confirmed if wipes are just part of the beta process or will be a feature of the game?

I believe they brought up an idea (although I might be misremembering and it was just a suggestion) that on release you would have one permanent character that went through the story and stuff while there were seasonal characters that would be wiped every few months.

The gameplay loop of the original Hunt: Showdown mode was at least somewhat similar albeit with a singular objective for the map rather than quests and just earning money to buy weapons instead of looting. There's still the mix of PvP/PvE, getting to an extraction point, and losing your character/their equipped gear when you die.

Played in a group larger than 2 for the first time tonight and the game really is completely different than solo; I didn't die a single time in 3 raids. I feel like solo players (or at least me) are a lot less inclined to open fire on 4 people running around which means you pretty much have free reign to sprint everywhere until you run into another squad. The compass is also a great addition for being able to actually call out directions when you do get shot at.

Picked up this game a few days ago and I keep dying to 1-2 shots without having any idea who/what shot me from where. So i decided to check out some streamers to see how the pro's play and pick up some tips but all of them are either messing around in their stash or are talking about the game. Is that.. is that actually the game? Am I playing the game wrong?

Even when you do see streamers actually playing it's not how most people do (except for those with the best loadouts or in squads), as they're usually running around everywhere and gunning everything in sight down when the average person needs to play it much slower to survive.

The biggest thing that will help you live longer is just learning the maps as much as you can. Not just the layout, but the possible places to spawn, the high value loot, and quest spots to a lesser extent. Once you start to get that down you'll have an idea of what direction you should be looking, places to avoid/run to, and where other people might approach you from. Other than that, pay a lot of attention to how much sound your making and whether or not it's appropriate for the situation you're in. For example, you probably don't want to be sprinting everywhere unless you're running across somewhere that you don't have cover. If I'm approaching a building that I know people usually loot, I'll take a second and crouch-walk when I get close both so that I don't make noise and I can hear anyone who's walking around inside. This becomes a lot more apparent when you start buying and wearing headsets because of how much they amplify sound.

There's a 0% chance this game ever becomes open world but I think doing so would be a massive mistake. I much prefer the current loop of gearing up for a 20-45 minute match that you can go into with whatever objective you want to wandering around from one town to the next and hoping it hasn't been looted yet for 3 hours.

As a scav or PMC? Getting into a PMC run never takes long but there are a lot more people trying to scav in on it than there are matches available so it takes a while some times. I usually have better luck scaving in on Reserve at night, never have wait times longer than 5 minutes with that.

It's pretty loving stupid that more anticheats are prohibiting you from having any virtual machine poo poo installed on your computer at all. I shut down every process related to Docker or Hyper-V I could find and still get kicked about 30 seconds after being in raid. Nikita's on Reddit claiming that the only reason to have these programs is for cheating, and anyone who says otherwise is just accused of being a cheater trying to spread misinformation. Great game, great use of my money. Sorry that I forgot you're only supposed to use computers for video games and anime porn.

Pro tip for broke newbies: there are like 20 hidden stashes outside of the mall on interchange. Everybody is usually too busy fighting over loot in the mall, so they're worth learning. Just hit one side of stashes or whatever you're comfortable with, maybe get a scav kill or two and dip out.

I forget what the FIR reqs are but don't forget to meet them. I don't think I've ever had an issue cause I'm so fat on loot.

I usually do a bunch of these runs at the end of a night when my group goes to bed cause I'm poor after dying all day.

if you hit up every stash on the route going through scav camp from emercom to/from railyway you'll get enough XP from searching and looting to avoid a run through, even if you don't end up finding scavs to kill at the camp

I've only had one suspicious death so far this wipe; my two friends and I all got one tapped so close together that it sounded like one gun burst (and no, we weren't standing in a line). When I played CS:GO I frequently got 15-20 more kills than my teammates and would constantly get accused of hacking, so I tend to not do the same myself unless it's super obvious. There have definitely been times where I have to wonder how the hell someone seemingly knew my position but I usually just chalk that up to not being aware of the noise I'm making.

I got Marauders today and have played about 10 rounds. It's pretty fun, sits somewhere in between Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown in how hardcore it is. Not really sure where I'm supposed to go for any of the quests so I've just been running around trying to kill people and it's been a good time. If anyone else picks it up and wants to play I'm in the Tarkov Discord under the same name as here.

Played for a few hours today, it's fun but probably not something I would have spent money on if it wasn't already included with EOD. For me at least it seems like it will just be a better shooting range to get better at the actual game.

The least fun part is just getting matched against people who have way better kits unlocked already. Of course you can often be at a gear disadvantage in the main game but it seems like there's less you can do to work around it. On the flip side once you unlock a couple kits you start to have games where you steamroll people on the same basis. Either the kits will need to be heavily rebalanced, the matchmaking will need to be improved to better take into account both player skill (which it barely does) and level (not at all), or both.

Number two is that once the round turns to the objective phase it's almost impossible to react in time to someone capping unless you are prepared and camping one.

Yeah I don't mind the short cap time but I do think there should be a short period where the point is visible but not capture-able. On Sawmill especially it takes longer than 7 seconds to get one point in sight from the other, so if you're the last one on your team (or the only one paying attention) and you guess incorrectly you automatically lose the round.

New recoil looks neat. Looks like it increases as you spray longer so tapping and bursting are viable and your gun won't be totally out of control unless you blast full auto. That combined with the new armor hitboxes seems like it will reduce ttk by a significant amount. Excited for this wipe.

e: Here's a reddit video showing tap/burst/auto on a stock m4. Looks like rifles with no attachments are way more usable than before.

https://www.reddit.com/r/EscapefromTarkov/comments/18s0ymn/stock_m4_new_semiburst_and_full_auto_recoil/

Even in full auto the camera recoil has been lowered, it's much easier to control with your mouse rather than spraying until it levels out.

Can I infer from the lack of discussion that the wipe update isn't mind-blowing?

Most of the discussion happens in the Discord server. IMO this is the best state the game's ever been in. Recoil feels great, the new armor system coupled with the ammo rebalancing is good, and I was pleasantly surprised that vaulting doesn't feel nearly as janky as I was expecting. The only thing I can really complain about is the audio which hasn't really improved at all since they switched to the new, but worse, audio engine a year ago.

Anyone have any resources they'd recommend for complete noobs? I'm a MW2 DMZ refugee trying to learn the game. I played a few practice matches and it seems like everything I liked about DMZ cranked up a bunch.

What kind of babby's first game loop should beginners be worried about? I'm just looking for general guidance about what to focus on for my first few dozen games. Should I try to focus on doing quests? Is there anything I can do to level up skills faster? I assume I should expect to get poo poo on every game and not to get too frustrated if I have an abysmal extraction rate.

Your first wipe will probably be more about learning the maps than anything. Quests are the main way you'll unlock better stuff to buy, so you should do them, but realistically you probably won't get very far into them this go around. Figuring out how the maps 'flow', meaning spawns, routes, and extracts will help you plan out your quests and also survive in general.

There are some hideout upgrades related to skill gain, but you shouldn't waste time trying to grind skills up in matches. Quick ways of doing this have been nerfed into the ground and your natural skill gain is plenty. The exception to this is the Sniper Rifle skill which you need to get to a certain level for a quest, but there's no need to worry about that until you get there.

Eventually you'll just learn the different scav skins but before then the two easiest ways to tell are armbands and to a lesser extent, pistol holsters. Scavs will never have an armband, so if you see one it is 100% a PMC. Pistol holsters aren't quite as sure of a thing, but there are only 1 or 2 scav skins with pistol holsters while almost every PMC leg option has one.
