1. Akudama Drive Outstanding dystopian action anime that does the usual "person oppressed by the system gradually realizes the system sucks" arc in a different way by having them operate outside, rather than inside, the system from the beginning. It only ended four days ago, so thank god the AOTY thread was late this year. 2. Magia Record As a mobage, Magia Record had a great story struggling to break free from mediocre dialogue and an ill-fitting form. The anime eliminates those barriers and more besides--it's the work Magia Record was always meant to be. Looking forward to S2! 3. Rezero S2 its rezero... again 4. Deca-Dence i didnt finish this but i really liked the first six episodes 5. Sword Art Online: Alicization: War of Underworld: Second Season the fifth anime i watched in 2020

Nanigans posted:It was charming, sure. I get that it was going for over the top. I get that it was super stylistic. It just felt empty and soulless with nothing new to say about anything. For example, more than just saying "cops are bad", Akudama Drive illustrates how police forces can subvert oversight mechanisms. The way things laws are set up, the Executors can't declare people targets for execution, a key limit on their power. But Boss can just go to the person who does do that and push them into making whatever declarations she likes, because she's more powerful than him. And this--oversight groups being weaker than the groups they're supposed to oversee, and getting pushed around by those groups as a result--is a real problem. Akudama Drive just explored a real problem. There are a hundred places where it does something like that.
