Star Twinkle Precure There’s probably something to be said about complaining that the cartoon franchise for six year olds doesn’t innovate enough, but this series felt especially safe. For all that it espouses about the power of imagination, every character only gets one attack that they use for every fight, and the show is quick to tell Hikaru no whenever she wants to do something too interesting, like drink the furry dog potion. The characters never feel like they’re ever challenged or face any real hardship, so every battle ends predictably, and coming off of watching several Precure series in a row, it’s definitely capped off my burnout on the franchise for a good number of years. It’s a shame though, because the movie that came out in 2019 is great. It shows that this series can be creative and have engaging action scenes. They’re just not anywhere present in the TV show.
