Freaquency posted:It’s hard for me to give a totally clear-eyed assessment of WUBC because it was the second book of his I read but the first I actually “got” (the first was Wild Sheep Chase because an old puzzle game that afaik has fallen by the internet wayside referenced it), so I’m inclined to like it more. Still, I said in the last thread when he was brought up that Murakami’s strength is writing stories that evoke a mood and I think WUBC is one of the best at doing that. This was also the second Murakami book that I read (Colorless Tsukuru being my first) and it almost completely turned me off of ever reading anything else of his again lol. Maybe I'll give him another shot someday but that was last year and I haven't had to force myself through a book in that way since I was in school. I mean we're well past the point where there's a difference between "I'm contesting the election because it will let me continue to get paid/build influence/not get blacklisted etc." and "I'm contesting the election because I truly believe that Trump won". You could convince me that Trump thinks he actually won but no other GOP figure has that excuse. And then their millions of supporters hear that and default to the latter of those two views because the first one almost certainly doesn't apply to them. The one bright side to all this is that when Trump spends the rest of his life hootin and hollerin about this election, it'll stop us from immediately sweeping the Trump presidency under the rug and we'll have to continue to think about at the mess we put ourselves in. That is, if we as a nation are capable of any amount of introspection lol

lmfao The maximum acceptable length for a podcast intro/outro, if you use the same one each episode, is however long Giant Bomb's intro/outro is. Otherwise you have be like Uhh Yeah Dude and use different music each episode. As someone who's never been high, I guess anything scary? Maybe scary and still somewhat rooted in real-life visuals, The Shining was the first movie that popped into my head.

Reminder that a bunch of PA GOPers at the state level tested positive for COVID-19, then took in-person meetings with Dem politicians without telling them about their health.

Even if Manchin decides that Senate votes revolve around him, Dems will at least control what legislation actually gets to a floor vote if Warnock and Ossoff end up winning. It can't be overstated how little interest Mitch had in having a vote on anything that wasn't GOP policy. That would be a big win all on its own.

I guess the one possible path for Convicted Felon Donald Trump is that maybe no one with any sort of power will want to defend him anymore. No national elections for a couple of years and he may have just had a hand in losing you the Senate, why not blow him off now when it'll be forgotten the next time you job comes up for a vote?
