Ramirez doesn't like Trump and the CHUDs (please do not make that into an animated series) damaging his version of the Republican brand. He just wants to go back to the golden years of oil baron families and corporate ghouls dogwhistling and leaning on cultural wedge issues, while claiming to be the adults in the room. EDIT - The irony being that he's more responsible than most for this, with the IBD threading the needle between Big Brain Business Guys and the "Commies under the bed" paranoid crowd. I don't preciously remember how The Great Gatsby ended but I'm pretty sure that the final chapter would be improved if suddenly everyone turned into a baby. An early episode of reboot Doctor Who did this to get out of a moral quandry, and it was a loving cop-out then, too!

Because I work for PP (local affiliate, not the national org) and we have hardcore training about mandatory reporting, even for Admin Shlubs like me who never deal with patients. Just when we're questioning the meaning of "gaslighting," the master comes along with a demonstration: Dems sure are crazy for thinking that any of the normal stuff said and done on January 6 was bad or unusual! EDIT - Violent cheers are a Boomer cultural staple, but I don't know where to begin researching the cheers themselves rather than the history of cheerleading in general. Ishida has this thing about drawing characters from a different angle in every panel, like a constantly-spinning movie camera. It makes it really hard to figure out where anything is placed within a scene, and my eyes tend to slide right off it, probably to keep me from getting dizzy. Not the most egregious example, but it's a recent one and I'm sure as hell not digging through his archives. EDIT - Went digging anyway, and now I'm both angry and nauseous. He never draws anything from the same angle across two consecutive panels - it's like someone told him that visual continuity is for squares, and sweet gently caress do I hate it. I have to admit, I'm still baffled by them pulling out suicide statistics at all. Like... what is it supposed to prove other than transphobes being utter monsters? Is it some kind of "and then they they had the NERVE to bleed to death on MY carpet after I repeatedly stabbed them" thing?

I think the sticking point for me is the nature of the claim. It's like the politoons that, if you don't already know the artist's leanings, come across as the exact opposite of the intended point. It's just incomprehensible to me that "suicide rates are higher among queer folks," isn't universally processed as "this is caused by individual and systemic bigotry." "Queerness itself causes suicides," seems like a total non sequitur, but it's taken as a given. Does this come from a "queerness is mental illness, mental illness causes suicide" thought process? That's not even getting into how that's supposed to mesh with the exact same fuckers going "trans women are just straight men actively trying to gain access to women's spaces," but that's pretty basic poo poo. Anyway, thanks for humoring me. It just feels like a self-defeating form of concern trolling outside the intended audience.

So any attempt to say something like "STEM is ruined because women complained about it" would mean that logically "to do the same to racism" would have to be "Racism is ruined because black people complained about it" which doesn't make sense. I think this is just a late entry into the "libs ruined math with EQUITY!!!" thing from 8,000 years ago. Or maybe it was last week?
