Yeah some metals work harden (increase in hardness when subjected to plastic deformation), some more and faster than others. Like Titanium, which is infamously annoying to machine/cut since it very, very quickly work hardens and ruins bits. Bending a regular gun barrel though, let alone a 20kg, 50 cal firing monster, thats some superhuman feat.
