Spirits were named such right in the Reach game manual. They probably didn't get named until Reach because they stopped existing after Halo CE but needed to exist for the prequel.

The Arbiter is one of Halo’s best characters. Shame reception was meh back then. Coop in 3 is by far my favorite because it’s 4p and everyone plays a distinct character.

A lot of the setpieces are setups for the Firefight game mode, and this is one of them.

Halo 4 has some good things going for it (the sound design for the weapons in particular is stellar) but its plot is questionable at best as this is when they really dove into transmedia storytelling.

The Covenant would have probably glassed the entirety of Earth within hours if they didn't go there looking for something. Also the Elites DID glass part of Earth to clear the Flood from it. Humanity really didn't stand a chance.
