It looks like "progressive" groups made big gains in the ADEM elections this year. Does anyone know if any of the groups are actually progressive or are they just liberals using this year's buzzword?

writing a letter to pete butt asking him to replace the train with a hyperloop

Everybody forgets that the only reason hyperloop exists is that Elon Musk pulled it out of his rear end to argue against CAHSR back when it was up for a vote.

I like to tell people "I guess the rivers shouldn't reach the ocean then huh?"

That's not much of an own. A lot of those people sincerly believe that every drop of water that reaches the sea is wasted.

Make voting a holiday and mandatory 8 hours of paid time off, then watch that percentage jump. This solution, however, would mean that people that can afford to vote would be in the same boat as the poor, and that is unacceptable.

Would that do much when every voter already gets a mail-in ballot?

Isn't it good to live in a state that takes the environment so seriously that it will take almost a decade to figure out if building a rail line is good for the environment or not?

I bet thats nice becuase you can take the dodger shuttle directly from the station there.

would be nice to have a second rail inland and keep this one too

That's basically the high speed rail plan, if you can wait 40 years or so.

San Diego's airport used to be named Lindbergh field but was quietly renamed once Lindberg's WWII era politics got too public to ignore.

Just make it to Vegas. I don't want to visit San Jose anyways.

Brightline is building a Vegas branch, but the California terminal will be in Rancho Cucamonga. They're relying on CAHSR to build the link into LA.

Also, the headline is misleading - it makes it sound like they've already spent $100 billion when they've only spent about a tenth of that so far.

That's somehow even worse considering how long they've been "building" this thing lol

That's how non-freeway infrastructure construction works here. You can't spend what it would take to build the project in one lifetime because you get headlines like the one above. Instead, you spend as slowly a possible so everything takes a lifetime to build and costs 200 times as much.

i think there's federal rail regulations that basically require trains to go like 15 mph through towns if not grade separated or something dumb like that

partly why vta is so loving stupid, other than just being vta

It's going to run up the caltrain tracks. Caltrain already exists and doesn't run at 15 mph or hit cars every other day.
