punk rebel ecks posted:I've always wondered why did Lowtax give up the site? Like what was in it for him if he didn't give it up? Even if the site stopped making money completely I'd imagine he'd rather shut it down than let it continue with someone else on the helm. Jeffrey paid him for it. I believe the words he used to describe the amount was "not so big that it would change his [ie Jeffrey's] life". Since we don't know how Jeffrey lives that could be anything, maybe he is posting on SA from a gold yacht right now. And from the other side apparently Lowtax isn't so dumb that he'd burn the place down just from spite, and instead took what he could get. My only worry was that Lowtax would use the time bought by Jeffrey's announcement that he was buying to find a higher bidder and sell to cracked or barstool or something.

Ork of Fiction posted:Jeffery: Here are the forums finances, as you can see, the forums are in the black, generating ~$4000 in profit per month. I think it's a pretty easy call that the first couple months of jeffrey's ownership would have an unusually high amount of avs bought, returning regs, and other forms of to celebrate. Monthly revenue will probably not be that high in the future. And if he's thinking of spending more on hosting and paying to improve the SA code, it'll leave the black real quick. People donated thousands a month to Lowtax, and the main reason was because we thought that if he was too broke the forums would go away. Plus a whole heap of emotional manipulation and lying, but mostly the forums. Also, Jeffrey's said he's not looking to make money from this, but if he wanted to pay himself back I think that would be totally cool with most people. Maybe the patreon reward tier can be shares in GBS LLC, and we eventually transition into a poster-owned cooperative.

BubbaGrace posted:Weird. When I just looked at it, the site design was completely different than any previous time I've visited it. It also was branded as Stylish, with the same logo as the browser extension Stylish and userstyles.org got taken over by a for-profit web analytics company that only cares about data collection. Use stylus instead. (Getting styles from userstyles is still ok, if the site is working at the time. But the extensions is tracking & reporting every site you go to.)
