Last year my house underwent a routine 5-year reappraisal, and jumped in value $50,000, this year it just went up $70k for no reason, and my property taxes literally doubled in the last two years (some good bond measures and whatnot contribute to that too). The taxable value of my house is now higher than the actual value.

That's the reason people don't paint their houses in the small town my wife grew up in in New York, they're too scared a fresh coat of paint will raise the value of their home and their taxes will go up. As a result a lot of the houses look like poo poo.

Here, a solid 80% or more of the value of a house is the land it's on. My dad's house went up $50k in assessed value last year: down $10k on the building and up $60k on the land. That house, that I grew up in, an hour from downtown Vancouver, is now worth a million dollars. My parents bought it in 1991 for $180k, dad remortgaged it in 2008 at $400k (to give my mother $150k to gently caress off forever, which she burned through in three years flat), and paid it off in 2015.

We occasionally joke about how much it's worth versus how much a condo is now that he's retiring and he says he isn't leaving except in a box. I don't blame him.

So you all know how Facebook marketplace sucks I'm sure.

I might act like a dick on the internet but apparently I trust people too much. I had agreed to drive 40 minutes to tolland CT today to sell a tool I'm trying to offload, guy was coming from Hartford so it was about halfway. Agreed upon price was 30 bucks under asking.

I message him an hour before meeting time saying I'm gonna be a few minutes early. He reads it and doesn't respond. I assume it's because he's driving. I show up, he's not there. I wait till an hour after the agreed upon time, messaging him about every 20 minutes, he doesn't even read any of them. By this point I'm pretty pissed but I go home.

I get another message looking to buy it and an idea pops into my head. I message the first guy and say if he still wants it it's still available but he's going to have to come get it now.

Guy #2 and I agree on a meeting time and place that's like 10 minutes from my house at 11 tomorrow, I'm 99% sure he's gonna show up. Ten bucks less but whatever.

Guy #1 now wants to meet me at a grocery store a few minutes from my house. I tell him 11 tomorrow.

So I'm gonna go sell it to dude #2, if he doesn't show up, I'll get back to the grocery store about 20 minutes after the agreed upon time with the flake. I'm not taking less than asking price anymore, and if he doesn't like that, I'm going home and he can drag his rear end an hour home with his dick in his hand like I did today.

I'm not worried about selling it at this point, apparently drywall hoists are hard to come by right now and it'll sell.

Spiteful? drat straight it is. Dude needs a taste of his own medicine though. If he'd just taken 5 drat seconds to reply to the message he read we wouldn't be here right now.

On the other hand, I met one of my best mates through a FB deal. We live in different towns and it's super handy if we find stuff we want in the others town. Then either piggyback our stuff on freight between our companies or when we meet up for a beer.

2010 STI hatch for a steal of a price with an engine that's making knock knock jokes. Should make for a fun project, because I already didn't have enough to do with the baby on the way, the new home build, and the mountain of projects at work.

I really know how to pick the days too with it being whiteout conditions on the trip back home, had sections where we were going 60kph because there was almost no visibility, 2.5hrs away from home, and arriving just now. Made it safely at least and great fuel economy at 13.9l/100km ( 16.9mpg) pulling the trailer driving into the wind.

I had one of the Norco 4U ATX cases for a while. Drive trays were poo poo but good enough to get the job done.

So I apparently completely missed the 3-year period in which Buick decided to make a station wagon. I test-drove a Regal TourX today, and even at a lower trim level it was quite nice. I think my wife is on board with a nice one (leather seats) as a possible replacement for her old Camry... anybody in AI owned one? We're still checking out what's out there, but we were pleasantly surprised by the test drive.

While I skip over any new Porsche in Car & Driver, and this wagon had me excited, I have never seen one in person. I drive to Florida multiple times a year. Never seen one. Based on an Opel if I remember right.

I would not go from a Camry to this but I also drive 25 year old Japanese imports including 4wd wagons.

GM likely didn't want to continue having PSA Stellantis build that car for them, and even if they did, the dealers ruined it

quote:

It’s not just Buick corporate that is dropping the ball here—even on the dealer level things are pretty sad. I had a few recent clients looking for nice wagons and I made sure I put the new TourX on their radar. Most of them were pretty impressed after a test drive, but when it came down to actually get a deal, things fell apart.

A lot of Buick dealers were not cooperative when it came to actually give pricing and the numbers I did receive were pretty pathetic. Discounts were maybe a grand or so off the MSRP. In one instance I had a client who wanted to order a TourX, when they sat down with the dealer to do the paperwork, he said to them “I don’t know why you want to order this. No one is buying these cars.” Then he demanded a $1,000 non-refundable deposit and told them they must do a credit check at the time of order.

I’ve done dozens of luxury car orders and rarely do they require credit checks before the order is placed and the deposits are almost always refundable.
