I was looking at a book by an author that calls themselves an "autonomous marxist" and this led me to reading the wikipedia entry for "libertarian socialism" which apparently is the best and most successful and only correct way of doing socialism, unlike the totalitarian ones that suck and fail

I guess I’m just not very knowledgeable of the history of it but libertarian socialism seems like a contradiction in terms. In any case, thanks to cspam I’m mostly suspicious of anarchist narratives so if you have a recommendation for learning about autonomism I’m curious as to how it relates to Marxism

"libertarian socialism", like a lot of (but I suppose technically not all) off-shoot leftist tendencies, comes from people falling for capitalist propaganda about Actually Existing Socialism. if you're the type of left-winger who buys into the whole story about how """Stalinism""" is both a totally real thing AND is bad, but you still want to be a left-winger, you then craft a bespoke left-wing ideology that wants to continue calling itself socialist (or even communist!), but tries to distance itself from Stalinism. Stalin was a brutal dictator, etc etc etc, so therefore we'll make our own socialism that... uh... is non-authoritarian, yeah, sure, that's it
