Was a pretty decent race I thought. Homestead is a decent track due to the tire wear and multiple grooves and poo poo.

Bowyer and Gordon are good when they are talking about the cars and racing and their past experience. Unfortunately that's only for a few minutes a race. Bowyer was in this junk car last year, so hearing him go into semi-serious mode explaining things about the car and how it reacts to hitting the apron etc is really good, except its like 90 seconds over 4 hours.

He called Starr a “dipshit” in his post care center interview too. It was the most iracing thing I’ve seen on tv.

Genuine question from me. I posted earlier in the thread about not having watched NASCAR for a long time, but what defines ability in the sport?

Since they're all running the sameish cars it isn't like F1(which I don't watch at all but I've heard that a lot of guys would win like Hamilton if they had his car, could be conjecture, or just not wanting the black guy to win, like I said I don't follow F1)

Is it reflexes, seeing passing/drafting lanes on the track? The fastest lines are pretty well defined, does it come down to decision making in the car towards the end of a race?

Money, and talent. Bubba has the financial backing. Put Kyle Busch in his car, guarantee he can get a top 5. I like Bubba a lot, I want him to succeed but I don’t think he’s quite there yet or ever will be.

The other huge problem right now for any new team is the complete lack of practice sessions. 23XI is brand new, can't practice, has to rely on notes to setup the car so they are forced to figure poo poo out on race day.

Very respectable attendance at Pocono today. I know some people were saying that it was gonna be like the '90s. The days of busing people in from satellite lots are never coming back. But it's as good as it's been in fifteen years or so, much more local crowd than it was back then. Lots of new and old shirts.

Also lol CLASSIC trucks

We almost went. $45 each day gets you 2 races? Can’t really beat it.

I'm at a dirt track for the first time in my life, this poo poo slaps. I've always been warned how gross they are. There's not a lot of dirt in the air here, I reckon it depends on the weather and the size and the shape, because I'm staying clean, wouldn't call it loud, either

You’re probably not clean at all. That clay dust gets everywhere, even if you think you’re in a “safe” area. You’re not.

I was at New Egypt Speedway last Saturday in NJ, we were sitting pretty much middle of the front straight, before entry to turn 1. I was a gritty disgusting mess when I got home. The wind was coming from behind us which was good, didn’t matter. That poo poo gets everywhere. Even in my wife’s cheese fries. That said, dirt racing live is awesome. The 305 sprints and big block mods loving haul rear end and it doesn’t even come close to translating on tv.

If you ever get a chance, race Bombers at a dirt track. They're practically a half step from the junkyard, and some owners will rent theirs out. A win is a win, would be awesome for Bubba.

1st year team getting a win is a pretty huge deal, even if that team is a satellite team of Gibbs really. That team has a ton of big sponsors and if they can get things going at the end of this year to setup 2022, they could be in good shape. Seems like Bubba's new crew chief has been really good for him too.

gently caress Hamlin but double gently caress Bowman for being so aggressive he almost ended a guys shot at the top 4. That smelled like some bullshit Hendricks crap due to Elliott getting spun earlier.

Race was good though. I was really hoping Kyle was going to punt Bowman and win and get into the finals.

Larson deserves the cup because his season was an all timer, but gently caress him too.

Go Truex.

E: the crowd booing the poo poo out of Hamlin during his interview was amazing.

Junior talked about this on his ask Junior segment today. Someone asked if non playoff drivers should race playoff drivers differently and he said no, which I agree with. He brought up Larson back in like 2017 who was really fast at Homestead and could have won but he drove really conservative as to not potentially gently caress things up for the playoff drivers.

The thing with Bowman Sunday was, he was so much faster than Hamlin he didn’t need to drive in so hard like an idiot, get himself loose and take out Hamlin. He could have passed him easily in a lap or 2. If that was Busch or Truex who were so close to the bubble it might have gotten uglier after the race.

When was the last time RPM was relevant and competitive? Was it pre-RPM when it was Evernham?

Edit: just did some reading and it looks like when Kahne was driving was their most successful time. A handful of wins with Mayfield and Almirola is about it though.

I am in a position where it's likely I'll have the opportunity to drive a chud-owned 410 sprint sometime in 2022, and I'm unsure how I'll handle the situation if he has any Trump/LGB poo poo on his car. My instinct is I don't want to be associated with that, and either insist on covering it or declining the opportunity. But it would be difficult to turn down a once in a lifetime opportunity over stupid poo poo like that.

That’s a tough spot, but if it’s an opportunity that could lead to better opportunities down the road for you if this a career you’re pursuing, might be hard to pass up?

I’m sure Mark Martin wasn’t exactly thrilled at the Viagra sponsorship at the time but no way in hell was he giving up his cup ride over it.

Also, as soon as I saw that car I immediately realized how many shitheads will be driving that scheme in iRacing.

NASCAR needs more short track races on the schedule, with heats and LCQ’s too.

They could have used a place like Bowman or some place similar but I don’t think it would have gotten the buzz of “built a nascar track over a football field”. Event was fun.

I really think they should use the heat/LCQ format once in a while, but it’s probably bad for sponsorships and stuff not having all the cars in the main.

FloRacing does a much better job with their coverage than Fox ever will. Excited for the World Series at New Smyrna starting Friday night.

If I had to recommend some absolute must listens:

Ken Schrader

Kerry Earnhardt
Jimmy Spencer
John Force
Gary Balough

I couldn’t tell whose brain was more scrambled, Spencer or Force (probably Force, he’s insane), both were hard to focus on at times.

The Schrader one you’re either tearing up from laughing or from crying, the stories he tells are so good. Got to meet him once at my local track, Wall Stadium, and he’s just one of the nicest human beings you could imagine. I wanted to ask him to go hang out at a bar after just to hear him tell stories.

One of the Jr episodes that was pretty deep was the Lyndon Amick one. It’s a good listen. Went from NASCAR to the military, family problems, etc. super emotional.
