Personally if I turn on a TV show and I see a character I've never seen before I immediately throw the TV in the dumpster because I cannot handle not already knowing literally everything about the show I'm watching

Maybe these are all like 50+ year old guys who grew up when every movie trailer was basically a 5 minute synopsis of the entire movies plot and they think it's bad writing when you go into a piece of media not already knowing every single thing that happens in it
