Remember you're trading rent increases for maintenance expenses. Buying a house means far more surprise expenses than an annual rent increase (check local laws on limits and do the math). Windows, roof, carpet, floor refinishing, siding, HVAC are all multi thousand dollar expenses that you shift on to your landlords in exchange for the profit in the rent.

Otherwise you're missing out on equity growth, but if you start small with no plan to downsize, you won't really be able to benefit from that before you die. Maybe someone else can chime in on that with something I'm missing.

But renting isn't all that bad, and home ownership is a lifestyle choice. It might not be right for you.
