Unfortunately I really only know him from his brief WWF run but I always thought Uncle Slam was an amazing name for a finisher.

If you only know Patriot from his WWF run, he had a surprisingly long and successful run in All Japan and got to wrestle the Pillars a bunch of times in tag matches. He once teamed with Kobashi against Misawa/Akiyama that Dave gave ****3/4, just for one example. It probably makes more sense when you know that Baba loved doing "Japanese heroes against nefarious foreigners" and the unironic All-American gimmick was a perfect foil at the time. Nobody will remember him as a great worker (or a great person, since he went full MAGA in recent years), but he had a good run for a while there. I remember his program with Bret, and at one point Bret got pinned by him in a tag match. So Sgt.Slaughter announces Patriot is getting a title shot. Bret is full on angry anti-American by this point, storms to the ring and says "I'm Bret Hart, the WWE champion, who did he ever beat to get a shot at me?!". And Slaughter just goes in his growl voice "Youuu". Got a nice pop. I remember when WWE could do simple, effective segments like that.

Wow. He lived here in town, worked at the Nissan dealership. I bought my last car from him. It took everything I had not to pester him with questions about what Eddie Gilbert was like.

Aw. His run with Hogan was something else. People complain he should have stopped earlier because of how messed up his arm got, but as he was making some five figures a week I absolutely don't blame him.

He had some great, understated heel work. Before wrestling, he was pretty good collegiate football player at the University of Tampa. And his Mr. #1derful trunks always made me giggle.

For some reason the moment I associate with him the most is looking in the mirror during a crisis of confidence and triumphantly realizing "I AM Mr. Wonderful!"

My favorite thing with him was that one video the WWF roster did where everyone was clapping to the music, except for Mr. Wonderful, who was flexing his arms and kissing each bicep to the music instead.

drat, RIP Bobby. One of the few wrestlers no one really had anything bad to say about. I liked him in the ring but Foley's first book made me more of a fan when I heard what a great guy he was.

Once somebody, maybe the Steiners, asked "hey, Bobby, we need some utensils" and sure enough Bobby pulled them out. This is a real shame. Everybody talked him up. William Regal called working with Bobby like a night off because he did it all.
