ARMBAR A COP posted:loving hell this one hurts really bad Fully admit I was never like a big Daffney fan or anything like that. But my heart absolutely sank reading the announcement after everything that happened last night. Such a sad situation.

This saddens me greatly. I loved her in WCW, she was unique and had so much to give. I always thought the WWE lost out by not having her but I guess she didn't fit their super model expectations. Last night heard the paramedics were racing to her and hoped for the best. It's all incredibly sad.

She seemed like such a genuine, sweet person who should've gotten more of a shot in this stupid business. RIP. I hope she gets a ten-bell in All Out this weekend.

My favourite Daffney story is how she was one of the first people to take wrestling's "independent contractor" bullshit to court, and she won. RIP

I was following along on the wrestling sites last night as the situation unfolded. So many of her friends and colleagues were frantically trying to reach her. I can't imagine how they feel right now. I hope Daffney is finally at peace.

gently caress, I was really hoping that with the amount of people looking for her there would be a positive outcome. As soon as I saw this thread was bumped my heart sank.

Daffney was one of the only things I enjoyed from late era WCW and I was always rooting for her and wanting her to do well in life. Please if any of you have depression or suicidal thoughts about talk to a professional, talk to a doctor and get the help you need. You're worth it. It helped me when I was thinking of ending it last year and it can help you too.

Digital Jedi posted:Thanks for the responses. I loved how they introduced her to WCW. Back when the company was super hot they'd show videos of college campuses and house parties where people would gather to watch WCW Nitro. This got dropped at some point as the company cooled off but, and I'm guessing Russo, came up with the idea to have a video of a "Nitro Party" that was just Daffney and have her talk about David Flair(who was far from being anyone's favorite wrestler by this point) and she later came in as an obsessed fan that turned into his valet. Her gimmick was that she was a goth chick that screamed a lot and was generally psycho. She didn't do a whole lot but she was kind of like the WCW's answer to Lita except that WCW never pushed her very much as a real legitimate wrestler. Daffney's Nitro Party She's definitely a Luna Vachon or a Lita type character that goes against the traditional mold of what the expectation of a wrestler is supposed to look like and there's always room for more of those in my opinion. RIP.

This will be harrowing for some but the story of Daffney in TNA is one of the most awful incidents in wrestling history and its connection between that and now is undeniable. https://www.cagesideseats.com/2011/4/21/2125160/the-sad-story-of-shannon-daffney-spruill This is a tough tough read but its important to know that she was a victim that deserved all the love and support that she didn't know she had. https://twitter.com/ShaneHelmsCom/status/1433515435685818373 https://twitter.com/RealPaigeWWE/status/1433515586030473234 Lid fucked around with this message at 20:44 on Sep 2, 2021 |

Daffney was why I noticed wrestling at all. I'm not sure I even knew wrestling existed until I was flicking through the channels one night and it just so happened that when I got to Channel 5 there she was, some goth lady screaming and laughing at a couple of guys fighting. I had to know what this was and what she was about, so I kept watching, noted the time so I could watch the next week, and the next. I'd say for the first month that I was watching wrestling, I was watching just for Daffney, and even once I got into the rest of the show she was still one of the highlights of any given week. Some 22-ish years later and I would still regard her as my favourite character in wrestling. I wouldn't have watched a second of loving Wrestlicious for anyone else. I'd never pretend she was a 5* technician, and particularly in TNA some of the storylines and segments she had to do were dire, but for her part she was always engaging. She never phoned it in, by all accounts she was as ideal an employee as any company could hope for, and her effort always came through on the screen even when the material itself was severely lacking. That TNA abused her so badly toward the end of her career was unforgivable. Not that the mistreatment she suffered would have been acceptable to inflict on anyone, but it always seemed extra-senseless to abuse someone who clearly was working their best for the company. And now this. I hope the industry can learn from her, that something good can come out of this. There's no end to the list of mistreated people in wrestling, but Daffney is the posterchild of all of it. All the injustices, all the abuse, all the carelessness, the lack of basic workers rights and protections; everything the wrestling industry could possibly do wrong, it did wrong to her. I hope her death brings with it more than just a 5-second graphic before the next couple of broadcasts. Every company, from WWE down to the smallest indies, needs to ensure no wrestler repeats her last decade.

She was one of the few people worth watching in WCW at some points. Very sad. Someone said we should be providing more proactive help to wrestlers of that era, and they’re right.

gently caress. I was hoping things would go another way after everyone tried to rush to help last night. Daffney was one of the shining moments of WCW for me, and as a weirdo goth kid that whole group of weirdos with Daffney, Crowbar, and David Flair was extremely my poo poo. It always meant a little more seeing other people who were weirdos like you doing big, cool things on TV. gently caress.

Horribly sad. I want to thank the posters who over the years have reached out to me when I'm lashing out and struggling, it helped a lot. My PMs are always open to PSP buddies, people say reach out but it can feel impossible to do, I want to be more proactive in reaching out when I see something myself. It's horrible news, god I wish this world wasn't so hard on people. Rest in peace Daffney.
