Culling Game has to end for it to activate. Which involves Sukuna killing all remaining players.

Does that mean Megumi can't activate under the same conditions as well?

No Kenjaku needed points, and also to threaten the Culling Game with being turned off by deactiving Tengen's Barriers..

Megumi / Sukuna needs to kill all remaining players for the game to end, or make Tengen's Barriers end.

whoops forgot about the points. how many did he have before getting cursed? maybe sukuna made enough back killing randos. otherwise megumi does have the same conditions kenjaku had to make his own rules, since he's got tengen in his tummy.

Maybe I misremember, but I don’t think you can change a rule that has been added.

You can't but you can add a counter rule. Like the culling game ends if Kenjaku and Sukuna are dead, instead of the opposite which they have going.

I think it's more likely the Culling Game is ended by the Barriers being deactivated.

John Werry should probably be replaced by Lighting full time.

Let's not pretend as if Lightning's translations wouldn't also be criticized if they were official. While Jujutsu Kaisen has had some real stinkers, manga fans have been trained to distrust official translations and do that reflexively. Case in point: the one chapter that *was* translated by Lightning was still lambasted here.

we all know how snappy general audiences get about translations but jjk is the worst-localized comic in jump to such a degree that it's immediately obvious

There's a part of me that wants to blame him for his Demon Slayer localization because the terms he picked to not really translate bug the poo poo out of me

To be clear, I'm not defending the way the official translation has handled JJK recently, it's really bad, to the point where I'm not sure what the narrator is saying half of the time. But it's obviously a reaction that has been magnified by the fact that it *is* an official translation.

I think that just happens. Tokyo Ghoul is loving awful about this and swaps between using Japanese and English terms for things randomly. Like to the point someone will use the term kakugan and someone will respond to them with the tern red eye.

The biggest thing about Werry's Demon Slayer translation that made it into the common vernacular for the series was leaving "Hashira" and "Kizuki".

I thought the idea of localization was to...localize foreign terms and phrases in ways that express the original intent while holding close to the text. For a reader that does not speak a lick of Japanese... what the gently caress is a Kizuki? Or a Hashira? You can see a Hashira and read the title and be like "Oh, I guess Hashira are really strong Demon Slayers?" but "Pillar" is a much, much better choice that totally explains what they are. They're a pillar of the Demon Slayers, of their style. What the gently caress is a Kizuki? "Demon Moon" is a pretty scary sounding title, and "Upper/Lower moon" is a more elegant way of explaining the hierarchy.

One Piece’s one also does this and it annoys the crap outta me. You get Inurashi directly translated to Dogstorm for some reason, but The Red Scabbards gets left as the Azakaya Nine or The Flying Six, which directly ties to the Lead performer and Headliner officer roles which got translated previously gets left as Tobi Roppo.

It’s just such a poo poo show where it honestly feels random on what the translator will decide to do.

I SAID WE'RE NOT GONNA BE FUCKING SUCK THIS YEAR!!!

Japanese titles often just sound cooler than a localization, I feel like (while the confusion and inconsistency is a problem) generally speaking leaving a bit of the Japanese is very acceptable to most of the fan base/core customers (despite some high profile memery in particular with Death Note for the anime).

Leaving generic items untranslated would be a problem, anything involving status or title, while a translation would be good, I just don't see most fan bases being upset in at least america with the Japanese just being straight up used.

I might have appreciated that context in Demon Slayer, but the general point of their titles was never really lost on me reading it.

yea leaving some japanese terms untranslated does feel like a fairly common thing

in demon slayer's case, I would have preferred pillar/demon moon but that's more because I was used to the scans than anything

there might have been some legal issues around the former but there’s no excuse for the latter
