For him to be right, there would have to be a signficant group in the labour party who think starmer being elected or not is an entirely secondary concern to purging the party of socialists.

Which, uh, seems to include starmer, at this point.

The Labour right think purging leftists and making themselves electable are one and the same, they have to get rid of the "stain" of Corbyn to make themselves electable

This is because they are incapable of analysing the fact that New Labour failed on its own terms and that their ideology is simply not very popular

I think it may have been solved.
Because of the name thing, there was a 2 step authentication request sent to the main signatory on the account (of which the person making the payment was unaware) who was on leave on Friday. Hopefully will be resolved today!

The lead candidate to replace McCluskey as GS has talked a lot more about attempting to repair relations with the Labour right and retreat from the open hostility and frankly he's probably gonna win (considering he's nominated by the united left slate).

I think you gotta be real cautious about seeing Unite as the saviour of socialism as it was a historic right union for a long rear end time and the vote share Coyne got at the last election shows that yeah control could slip back to a right slate - I think full disaffiliation probably would clinch that tbh

Unite have some general lovely positions - pro Heathrow 3rd runway and we had someone from Labour 4 Decrim on who said one of the worst experiences they ever had was trying to bring up sex workers rights at Unite conference and just getting a parade of people going "sex workers aren't workers, they know what they got themselves into"

:catstare: I'm not sure if that's better or worse than the "poor soiled doves" argument of the religious right/SWERFs/women's christian temperance union.

I guess 'better' in that at least it's one that could be applied to everything, like Amazon warehouse workers also know what they got themselves into, so if you're going to take that route why bother with unions, dehumanize yourself and face to pissbottle.

The favourite is probably Turner who is the official nominee of the united left slate who control the majority of the executive council. But there was a big argument about his nomination because he emphasized de-escalating the stand off with Starmer and trying to work with him so the guy that lost to him in the nomination is also running anyway thinking that he's too weak.

Coyne hopefully won't do as well as last time cause a big part of his campaign was "gently caress len" accusing him of personal misuse of powers but message does seem to have been received that the UL might need to tack slightly more to the centre after his success at the last vote.

not sure him saying unite shouldn't protect its members and then unite winning said action is a great strategy to win

Unless you are going for some real 11d chess stuff like undermining their own guys so the Leftists take back control so they can be properly discredited, or something.

I really don't get what you're trying to say here. The project of the right wing of the party is to obliterate the left wing of the party. They don't care about winning an election, they don't care about changing the direction the country is in, and they *certainly* don't give a single poo poo about actually helping anyone who owns less than two homes, or at least all of those priorities come a very, very distant joint-last with actually even ensuring the continued existence of the Labour Party. I've seen nothing, apart from some very mild grumbling, that I would call undermining *of Starmer and the project*.

Dunno, it's a bit mixed.

Transferring him to Barts seems like a really, really bad sign - the hospital he was in should have been more than enough to treat anything he had that was treatable, it's not like the royals get sent to *bad* hospitals. The only equipment the King Edward would be likely to be lacking would be seriously specialist stuff, and even if he needed some world-leader doctor from Barts they could definitely put the doc in a taxi rather than the other way round, which suggests he needs very serious specialist care.

At the same time - while they took pains to shield him from view as he was loaded into the ambulance for the transfer - the ambulance they loaded him into was a standard patient-transfer one, and the loading seemed to go pretty quickly which suggests he was in a wheelchair rather than a bed (those minibus ambulances can accept beds but it's a right pain to load them in)* and it seems like if he was right at death's door they'd have used a "proper" ambulance, or a specialist intensive-care transfer ambulance (which are the same size and shape, for the same reason, to allow the staff to work on the patient while the vehicle is moving if needed).

So it's entirely possible that they're just overreacting because he is the Queen's husband and they've decided to chuck him to what is one of the best cardiac hospitals in Europe just because his angina was playing up a bit, or at least that's as possible as "They're gonna chuck the heart and lungs of a peasant in him to give him an extra couple of days".

* I can't claim absolute expertise on this beyond my observation of them moving everyone out of the London Chest to Barts when the former was closed - my mum was the very last patient in the hospital, which was spooky as gently caress even *before* they started winding it down. By the time it was just her, me, and a couple of doctors and nurses clustered in one empty 8-bed ward it was proper Stephen King.

It would not surprise me if in 5, 10 years documents reveal that Starmer was planted there to take the heat for the sheer destruction disaffiliating the unions from Labour would cause, and then disappear leaving the leadership free for a more palatable right winger to step in and scoop up the big donors.

Whether he realises that's why he's there or not is entirely another matter.

This will of course not work because the tories already exist.

MikeCrotch posted:

I think there are a few factions at play here.

Group 1 is the Starmer types who's only policy is that better things aren't possible so as not to scare off guardian readers. They probably genuinely believe that electoral success is possible if they just triangulate hard enough. For this example, they are the Wallet Inspected.

Group 2 are the right wing whatsapp leak types who actively want to run the party as tory lite. They would be perfectly happy to be opposition for life, as long as it means they can keep up the grift of having free cars and a london flat and an office and assistants. They facilitate group 1 on behalf of group 3. For this example, they are also the Wallet Inspected (by group 3), but think they are the Inspectors (of group 1).

Group 3 (who, if I'm honest, probably only exist in my paranoid conspiracy) are just straight up tories who are funding groups 1 and 2, and feeding group 1 fudged stats via group 2 to make them believe it might actually work. They want to watch the party implode and lose their spot as the main opposition. They are the Wallet Manufacturers for group 1 and Inspectors of group 2.

Group 4 (formerly Group 4 Securicor) is a British multinational security services company headquartered in London, England. The company was set up in 2004 when London-based company Securicor amalgamated with Danish business Group 4 Falck. The company offers a range of services, including the supply of security personnel, monitoring equipment, response units and secure prisoner transportation. G4S also works with governments overseas to deliver security, and are therefore the Wallet Police.

Group 5 is comprised of the unions, membership and party left, who are stood there in disbelief watching these idiots playing pass the wallet while the party burns. They haven't used wallets in years because they paypal local companies straight from their accounts (Wallet E-Girls?).
