Unite aren't actively doing anything, it's just a natural outcome of having successfully defended their members. They'll be funding Labour's defence in the same way as ever, via the big sum they pay to fund Labour as a whole.

Though it is worth remembering that Unite did cut their contribution to the Labour coffers. (At least I think it was Unite?)

I'm happy to say despite being a left libertarian I'd prefer Tankies in charge to Tories.

Disappointing to hear Coyne is the favourite to win. That's terrible.

That said, claiming he's a Strasserite is reductionist drivel, as is the case 99% of the time someone labels someone a Strasserite as if it as a term as any meaning whatsoever.

You're well within your rights to tell me to gently caress off after spending the last year bitching about people still in the Labour Party, but the Labour Holyrood candidate for Glasgow Kelvin has been removed as the candidate because she supports independence. Like you think "British monarchy? Must be the house of Widdeleebum, house of Bollingford, house of Windsor or something" but you look and the actual dynasty name is Saxe-Coburg Gotha. Crazy stuff, hypothetically.

Yes, every royal family in Europe is German except the Spanish and Swedes who are French. But the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg went to Greece starting in 1862 so really they aren't actually German anymore than your average Bostonian is Irish because their great granny migrated. The Greeks overthrew the previous German monarch (from the Bavarian Wittelsbach house who are the Jacobite claimants to the British crown now) and the National Assembly ended up picking the son of the Danish king.

So actually they chose their German/Danish monarch for some reason. The ways of monarchists are inscrutable

Britain has declared that China is now in “a state of ongoing non-compliance” with the 1984 Sino-British joint declaration, which was supposed to guarantee Hong Kong a high degree of autonomy after the territory returned to Beijing’s control in 1997.

Dominic Raab, foreign secretary, said radical changes planned by Beijing to restrict participation in Hong Kong elections represented a further clear breach of the legally binding declaration.

His comments came ahead of the publication next week of a UK foreign and defence policy, which will see Boris Johnson’s government set out its strategy for dealing with China.

While David Cameron’s government claimed that the UK and China were engaged in a new “golden age”, Johnson will set a strategy to make Britain less reliant on Chinese investment and technology.

Britain’s intention to increase its presence in the Pacific region was illustrated in January by its application to join 11 countries in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
