When it comes to intellectualism, we seem to be falling behind the liberals and the fascists. The right has R.Сам and probably a few others from the stagnant waters of the collegium. The center has Joe Rogan. Say what you will, but they're true intellectuals who come up with their own ideas without regard for orthodoxy. Who then, does the left have? Let's look at some candidates.

Noam Chomsky
Extremely accomplished philosopher with some very good ideas. Unfortunately, he believes that ideas should be practical or applicable. Sad!
Verdict: Pseud

Slavoj Zizek
A classic schizo philosopher of the authleft Freudian-Lacanian flavor. Predictably, these tendencies limit his thinking, and his Diogenes-like eccentricities are just superficial.
Verdict: Pseud

Chapo Trap House
Matt's hobbyhorse is the alienation caused by liberal individualism, but he reaps more benefits from it than most people by being an antisocial weirdo. Felix's mental faculties are primarily used for noticing types of guys. Will is too good-natured easygoing to be an intellectual. Amber wrote an article about how UBI is like being a 1950s housewife.
Verdict: Pseuds

Breadtube
If you even consider the possibility that these theater-kid ideologues are intellectuals, you're lost.
Verdict: Pseud beyond pseud. Super Pseud 2

Richard Wolff
I don't know much about him yet but he seems cool.
Verdict: TBD

Jordan Peterson
What's he doing here? I guess he snuck in because he was far-left as a student and his house is covered in Communist propaganda. Anyway, he did pretty good in that interview where the interviewer kept going "so what you're saying is...." But on the other hand, he adopted an all-meat diet because some people he doesn't like prefer all-plant diets.
Verdict: Cannot Escape Pseuddom

It's kind of sad that the prominent Breadtube people have pivoted towards making theatrical comedy skits with leftist philosophy rather than philosophy videos with theatre bits to make them more engaging. I can't watch Philosophy Tube's or Contrapoints vidoes anymore.

Cody Johnston
Surprisingly rigorous analysis on his fake news show. He also used to be really funny and it still shines through sometimes. It's too bad he'll barely deviate from the party line and his tone is so obnoxious. He says "it's almost like" about once every 5 minutes, which should tell you everything you need to know.
Verdict: Pseud

Worship of so-called intellectuals is pathetic liberal tendency to have accredited, 'qualified' parental figures teach you how to think OP. It is no better nor different from the brain dead Hillary fans saying "She's got the best resume! She's the most qualified" in 2016. We have to destroy every center of this poisoned way of thinking and exile every pundit and 'intellectual' if we hope to create a world where human life and human dignity are given the weight and respect they are owed.

Also Zizek is daddy and I'd let him go to town on me.

Intellectualism, as I've tried to demonstrate with this thread, isn't based on qualifications but quality of thought. All ideologies need good thinkers associated with them, and you're being handicapped by believing this is an exclusively or characteristically liberal thing.

R.Сам is killing it today. He's wrong about his analysis of the left, like confusing radlib exotericism with radlib esotericism and not acknowledging the (unrelated) schizo-Christian throughline, but all his takes are inspired and he's got Nick Land mad at him. Where is the equivalent with Matt Christman gloriously taunting Zizek? Nowhere.

are you talking about some twitter personality? i don't understand the significance of pissing off some dumb, has-been philosopher boomer like nick land. nor do i understand the hypothetical significance of a situation where christman 'gloriously' taunts zizek. i'm extremely online and brokebrained, yet i still can't understand this post

Nick Land being pissed was an emblem of so many NeoRX and more generalized alt-right people being pissed. And Matt Christman making Zizek mad would show that Matt is willing to say anything, although I can't imagine Zizek ever getting in a Twitter dispute. If he's mad at someone he just writes an article where he uses his anger as a jumping off point for some bigger argument.

which genocide is he denying again

Bosnian and Cambodian. Denying a genocide is also good evidence that someone is just a pundit and a pseud because genocide denial is always for politically convenient reasons.

Why do I care if Christman makes Zizek mad? They're commentators.

I just explained why. It would provide evidence Christman isn't a pseud. I think you might be fixating on the specific examples I used for a leftist equivalent.

He's a Twitter intellectual I respect because he's always coming up with his own ideas. Plus he likes Kanye. I spell it that way because it's his display name and linguistic precision is the first step to not being a pseud. No, I'm not him.

I've been hearing a lot about Glenn Greenwald lately. He constantly antagonizes his own side, which is the hallmark of an intellectual. However, I read that he implied a lot of bisexuals are actually straights using it for clout, and his evidence was that bisexuals are in relationships with the opposite sex about ten times more than the same sex. He didn't account for the fact that there are approximately ten times as many people of the opposite sex attracted to them as people of the same sex, so the distribution actually perfectly matches what you would expect. I will reserve my judgement of him until I find out whether he's addressed this.

Lindsay Ellis and the Amazing Atheist

Both of these liberals who've been talking at cameras on the internet for over a decade have recently put out videos addressing past actions. The Amazing Atheist, or TJ, made one talking about how his "anti-SJW" antics were a bad idea because they ended up empowering right-wingers. Lindsay Ellis made one about an attempt to cancel her on Twitter, which segued into a list they compiled of things she shouldn't have said or done.

What's remarkable about these is how honest they are. Lindsay only apologized for those offenses she actually believed were bad, and focused a lot of the video on the toxicity of cancel culture (although she wouldn't use that term since it's been co-opted by right-wingers). There was no insincere "I will listen, and do the work, and do better, so continue supporting my brand." It was her actual feelings on every subject, and the admissions of wrongdoing were much more powerful because they were real. Experienced Twitter users will often correctly say that the best thing to do to preserve yourself in the face of cancellation is to ignore it. But Lindsay sacrificed mental wellbeing and clout to address problems openly.

While Lindsay avoided losing herself to a nominally left-wing mob, TJ avoided the opposite. His personality and libertarian bent strongly predisposed him to Gamergatism. He could have been another example of someone who started off libertarian-left and ended up being pushed to Kekistan by woke excesses. But he maintained his intellectual and moral integrity. Now he's a mutualist/market socialist, but still has the condescending style and says whatever he thinks with no regard for consequences.

Verdict: Intellectuals
