ryanrs posted:I put in 2nd gen Sienna front springs, which gave me 2 inches extra height in the front. The 2nd gen springs have a higher spring rate since that model is heavier. The 2nd gen rear springs won't fit, though. I need to expand my search, as there's probably something out there from a totally different car that will work in the rear. Moog has a pretty handy page for this kind of thing: https://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/universal_coil_springs.asp you can search by vehicle, find their PN for your stock application, then look at that list to find its dimensions. then you can find something of the same diameter and longer free length, or same free length and higher spring rate, or whatever you want and if you dont want to buy from moog, you can see what applications that PN crosses to, maybe even grab stuff from the junkyard if it's common

yeah i go to the "sj north" pick n pull mostly now. used to use the "sj south" one too but it's gone now. it's been pretty busy during covid times, i guess everyone is working on their projects too two bucks gets you in the door and then you can gently caress around with stuff all day. they dont like power tools that throw sparks (e.g. grinders) but you can chop stuff up without anyone caring if you use a saw or a drill or whatever

i think it looks pretty good just as it is. imo stick some mesh and supports diagonally between the bumper bar and the bottom of the radiator support, and paint it all black so it doesn't stand out.

i feel like if you were a little less concerned with how it looks, you could get 90% of the way there with a chunk of flat metal of your choice, a hacksaw, drill, and file. then you can paint it for a couple bucks instead of having to pay an anodization lot fee

is abrasion a concern where all four lines are zip tied together and to that bracket? my first instinct would be to put something (idk like teflon separators or sth) between the tubes to keep them from wearing at each other, but idk if thats a real concern work looks fantastic otherwise

i was gonna recommend the lake pillsbury/mendo natl forest area too. lots of fire roads through there that aren't really maintained, with some nice views. some burned spots, but lots of not-burned stuff too

ryanrs posted:https://vimeo.com/667656117 yeah, i grabbed the video with youtube-dl, and mpc-hc reports 5533kbps h264 video, 253kbps aac audio. thats only like a 50x degredation cause your original was hevc, lol. i can definitely see the artifacts you mention. i havent really done any online video hosting myself, so i dont know what options are better than any others, but any free host is going to compress the poo poo out of anything you give it, i bet

i like my work surfaces about belt-level, so somewhere between waist and hips my dad was telling me recently that the ideal height was at your thumb's knuckle when standing in a neutral pose with your arms at your side, but that seems too low to me. he was coming at it from a woodworking perspective, though, where you'd need to be applying some downwards force on the work (like planing or rasping) and also you might have some bulkier/taller fixturing than metalworking tends to have are you going to just tack your stuff to the table, or bolt on a vise, or...?

ryanrs posted:I might cut out the damaged section of the bottom tube and weld in a new piece, since that's pretty easy now that I have a welder. it looks like it's bent as far up as where it meets the recovery point part of the bracket, at least the tube exiting the bracket looks like it's pointed up

do you worry about the sharp laser cut edges of the hooks cutting into your ratchet straps?
