Yeah, the dancers were Joe's family and he was a dancer himself as a kid.

Because that was the defense, that the picture made sense in context, and a bunch of people are now pointing out that it sounds like the context Jim was talking about is made up by him. It's the fastest and easiest way to point out how full of poo poo he is.

Yeah, the basic gist of the conversation has been:

"That picture is really racist"
"Actually it kind of makes sense in context."
"That context isn't true"

I've always assumed he has some sort of terminal wrestling brain. He's poisoned himself so much that he really can only see the world through the lens of wrestling and everything is these big weird broad stroke stereotypes. To me that's why so many of his opinions revolve around what an xyz wrestler looks like. He has no problems with anyone, as long as you fit into the narrow definitions of what you should be like in his head.

I have a baseless conspiracy theory that AEW have been dropping little references to WWE/WWF into their programming trying to goad them into a lawsuit AEW thinks they can win.

So much of the bullshit WWE gets away with goes untested in the courts. The independent contractor stuff is sketchy as hell. Maybe asserting control over ex-WWE performers names and gimmicks wouldn’t hold up.

If it helps I hold this same baseless conspiracy theory. They've at least discussed it and seem brave enough to not play around. They might not be goading but I think they're confident in their chances if a lawsuit came.

Oh yeah, on the one hand I get why Jim has all these different ideas of who's this wrestler and who's that wrestler and why one is more respectable.

But also at the end of the day they all fall down on their butt to make you feel an emotion. It's all the same poo poo. A wonderful 200+ year tradition of falling down funny and/or cool.

What always gets me about the "[unrealistic thing] is killing the business" argument is that uh...

we all know it's not real. And we're all investing a suspension of disbelief when we watch shows. And crucially we invest a different level into different shows.

You have to suspend more disbelief for a Chikara show or a TJPW show than for Bloodsport or UWF, but you're still suspending disbelief. Some people find the amount they have to suspend for Chikara to be more than they are willing to do. Likewise some people find Bloodsport etc to be too close to just worked MMA for their tastes. To pretend one is killing the business and the other isn't is just silly.

It's like with TV drama. You have to suspend more belief to watch Wandavision than to watch Line Of Duty, because Wandavision is both more fantastical and more self aware of being a television show. But you also have to suspend disbelief for Line Of Duty because, well, these are actors pretending to be cops rather than cops.

I feel like it's the difference between thinking "The Business" is a scam where you work marks and an art form that uses kayfabe to blend reality. The first guys think they need you to think it's real, the second set realize that even if you're making the entire world your stage you sometimes step off stage.

Apologies, no confirmation that he is buddies with anyone in the Elite faction. I'm conflating the story with another where he appeared on a Kenny Omega booked show at a videogame event, but looked that up and Omega says it's just because he gave the ring crew a dark match as a reward for helping out (and Rance was part of the ring crew). I'll take that back, didn't mean to get into the weeds with it and glad to be corrected.

edit: Here she is second from the left.

Goons have got to learn to just not get into the argument. Never apologize, never defend. Just post your clip of Jim being a human for 2 seconds in-between hating on women drivers and wishing OC died and then just leave it. Getting sucked into this

No it's just really obvious that you can work up a thread that's about "thing bad" by going "thing good" so he's doing that. He has one gimmick. This is better than when he did the pro-Israel bit.

But yeah, it doesn't really take a lot of effort to figure out what's going to push buttons here lol
