I like Zalika's style, it's very Mars Attacks. I'm leaning towards her for a first playthrough, maybe with the robot girl for maximum Science! And it's good to see Red Ivan is back considering he was basically a meme in the first game with how much he destroyed your own base all the time.

Who was everyone's favorite Henchmen in the first game? I remember the Butcher was the best in combat since one of his attack animations was him wildly chopping and each chop counted as a separate hit. Him vs Jet Chan was always an epic showdown determined by how often that animation got used. Psycho Granny was very fun too.

Visually she may look more Thatcher but I think the character is clearly inspired by Judi Dench's M from the Bond movies, so that's what I associate her with more. M snapping and trying to take over the world is a great concept, so I'm bouncing between her and Zalika to start with.

I hope when Steele shows up he looks completely different and somehow younger than he did previously without anyone commenting on it, just to lean into the Bond allusions harder.

I'm curious about Janet Bombe's ability to sabotage weapons. If she can make a super agents gun explode and they have to fight barehanded that might be really strong. Destroying evidence could also be good.

Other than that I'm thinking Emma and Eli to start with right now. Eli seems like a perfect all-rounder with his gun and smooth talking ability. Or Zalika and IRIS, which just makes sense thematically. I'm not convinced IRIS turning into a camera is that useful though.

That's a pretty involved tutorial. I just about managed to get to the end and unlock all the rooms today. Granted I think I messed up by getting way too ambitious in my base building.

Definitely very engrossing. I'd agree that it's easy to get yourself stuck waiting for money or -heat schemes to complete but it shouldn't be an issue now I'm out of the tutorial.

It's hard to tell without directly comparing it but research definitely does complete very quickly when Zalika is directly boosting it. You just need the money to fund it. Also her repair skill is really, really useful for saving technician time and for dealing with sabotage.

IRIS's camera mode might be better than I thought considering how flighty minions are about responding to danger. Being able to get them to actually focus on incoming agents could be a lifesaver. She's seems strong in combat so far at least.

They also look cool.

I've been putting them in area's that minions usually don't go to in order to get them to hang around there. Minions will just wander or mill around in the cafeteria if there's nowhere to sit I think.

yeah i cant progress with story because of super agents constantly heating up the map too much.
Also synergy is real pain in the rear end, like i managed to get rid of her easily
but her minions are individually better than my bomba henchmen which totally sucks.

So now my base is down to 60 minions from 140 minions and i have no guards left.

Yeah, I'm in the same situation. I've found that Iris can do crazy damage when she's able to blast away from a distance so I can beat anyone else with her and some goons but Symmetry and her squad are ridiculously strong and they're just roving around my base killing everything in 1 shot so Iris can't do anything before they down her. Does Symmetry leave with her loot at some point? I don't think I can take her squad down.

I also got hit by some seriously terrible timing as I'm trying to take down Jubei and he's wrecking me on the world map at the same time all the super agents decided to simultaneously base-rush me. So to take him out I need to send 10 guards which I need to defend my base and with the super agents killing them all I can't get back up to max guards.

Even so it was a big turning point for me when I realized Zalika isn't just a crazy nerd, she's a crazy nerd with a laser cannon on her arm. As long as you have someone distracting the agents she can do some pretty good damage and being able to actually control her is a big help in setting up fights.

I managed to turn my super agent woes around by basically pulling out of ANVIL territory except for a single place that I just ignore if Symmetry is there. I made a big mistake in going wide originally. You don't need multiple level 1 places you just need a few levels 2's. Level 2 schemes make you so much money that you don't have to worry about only running a few of them. Once you actually understand how the super agents work in terms of triggering them to attack you they become enormously more manageable.

2 good attack skills (1. single target poison, 2. aoe poison cloud), 300 in all stats, and most importantly unlocks unique -75 heat/30s and $120k/low intel cost repeatable schemes related to her restaurants.

I just got her and yeah she is drat good. The single target poison is a great social move that does 60-80 resolve AND health damage and the blowfish bomb does about the same damage in an aoe. Your minions will avoid it so there's no friendly fire and it also makes the agents have a coughing fit for about 20 seconds. Your minions won't attack them during this but it gives your kill team plenty of time to get there. Pairing her with IRIS is really effective. She's actually a pretty good melee fighter too and she's strong in the casino.

Her unique schemes are crazy strong. The -75 heat has no cost and you can spam it but it seems to only spawn in a few territories over and over for me. The $120k one is 5 intel and 5 minutes but is pretty expensive in terms of minions. Also I think they replace other schemes in that area so it may cause you to not get a particular scheme you'd prefer.

Overall she's an exceptional Henchmen. I'm going after the Hunter next, he kicked my rear end when I fought him the first time so he seems strong as well.

DarkHorse posted:

[*]Some of the henchmen are garbage. I got Janet Bombe and she's dogshit - a melee-only hench with almost no vitality means she dies constantly and her abilities aren't really that good. The suspicion eraser would be good, except you only get a few shots before needing to recharge her stats and it has a cool down long enough you aren't going to have a chance if there's more than two suspicious agents. Maybe if it just erased all evidence in a group or even on the entire island... maybe. Her other ability makes one agent's weapon blow up depending on type which... doesn't seem to do much. :geno: It might be better if she just constantly deactivated all ranged weapons in a passive AOE
[/list]

I really like the idea of deactivating ranged weapons, that alone would make her a viable Henchman given how strong the super agents are at range. If Olga and her team can just blast away at range they do crazy damage. Getting rid of all evidence map-wide would also be pretty great if it let you ignore investigators and just delete the evidence as they're leaving. Janet definitely needs to get a rework, she's clearly the worst right now and good at basically nothing.

Danaru posted:

Do super agents raise heat on the map? I had a sector running a heat reduction mission with Olga standing on it, and it still managed to gain heat until hitting 100 and locking down

They definitely do, yes. I think the heat gain increases the further into the game you get as well but that could just be me being bad.

Welp, update from previous post - recruiting one henchman requires you to kill Super Agents in your base, but Symmetry won't do anything even when ANVIL is largely locked down and and her invitation won't appear. This means I can't go do a loot quest, meaning I can't advance the main story any more until Symmetry decides to get un-stuck (am at the tier where you unlock the last minion types).

Any ideas?

Just wait until you see her in a territory and use the -heat scheme. ANVIL being locked down will actually prevent her from coming since she'll only invade if she is present for one of your schemes.

I think I got the Henchmen you're trying to and he is pretty strong. Sir Daniel has a powerful gun so he's a strong ranged attacker. His first ability stealths him, makes him really really slow and he does extra damage on his next attack. His second is a deployable trap that does about 40-50 vitality damage and tags for capture. He's definitely geared towards ambushing invading agents and he is good at this. I don't think he's as good as Jubei as a henchmen but when paired with Jubei or something that uses melee he wrecks agents.

Does nothing, she's stuck on 'Investigating: [throwaway text]' and even quick heat reducing missions do nothing to change it.

If she's investigating something else even when you're doing schemes in the territory she's in then that might indeed be a bug and you should reload an earlier autosave to try and reset her. The only other thing I can think of is that you might be mixing up which territory she's in if shes standing on a boarder between two of them.

If anyone is wondering why they haven't run into Full Metal Jackie, apparently the only way to recruit her is for Jubei, Eli, Dr.Ming, and Sir Daniel to still be crime lords and for you to have not started any of their recruitment missions since her story requires it or something. So you need to pick Iris or Janet as your starting Henchmen.

This is pretty dumb imo since that means over half of players won't have a chance to even encounter her and hopefully gets patched or modded out. If anyone has actually managed to recruit Full Metal Jackie please feel free to correct this if it's wrong.

This would be a good idea and is one of the reasons I liked EG1 so much. The first island you are trying things out, see what works and what doesn't, and if you mess up, well tough luck since there is no re-walling. But then you get to the second island and you take what you learned from the first one, and you get to do it right this time. It's great.

EG2 you have one island, you can redo it as much as you want, and you have so much space that you never have to optimize anything except the entrance. I do think it would be a better game if you had a new base for every region that had certain limitations/mechanics in each. Then the end game level would be your volcano fortress where you build your doomsday device, and you'd have access to the entire world map to do your schemes. Have only research and henchmen roll-over from previous levels as well as a base core of say 20 minions.

Yeah, an issue which certainly compounds on to the pacing issue is that the game gets really easy after you work out how to beat each super agent. You get all this space to work with and so many layers to do it in but it doesn't really matter as everything just boils down to either stopping agents at the casino or a fight at the entrances/in front of your vault. I made trap hallways in front of my main vault and top sanctum purely as a vanity feature. Nothing is getting up there except for Symmetry teleporting in and she basically ignores all traps anyway so it doesn't matter.

I'd love to get a second island or move to a new one. The only thing the extra layers do is give me more space to put down generators and control rooms. I prefer the more open maps of the first game where the agents didn't just walk into the same hallway to die over and over.

Either that or the super agents need more unique options. They don't even all have special abilities anymore. Wrecking Bola and Blue Saint should roll up as combat monster distractions while their sabotage teams teleport in and do the actual damage. J Steele is referred to as being different people including women but its always the same boring useless scuba rear end in a top hat. Have at least 3 types: social, stealth and combat. Atomic Olga should actually just start off aggro'd and run in shooting. Agent X shouldn't announce his presence so he can actually surprise you and require camera set ups to catch him. I complained about Symmetry at first but she's definitely the best one since she actually scared the poo poo out of me before I got to the endgame.

Yeah, I said that I'm not scared of her anymore but her and her team did beat almost all of my fully upgraded henchmen last time she visited. If I hadn't of ran Dr Ming in to poison everything and toggled Iris' camera on just before she died I'd only have half my muscle minions as base defense left. Her and Olga are the most threatening for sure.

Dr Ming's pretty good btw even if her heal in no way counters her poison cloud. I love just running into groups and nuking them even if it kills as many of my own minions as agents.

One thing I will absolutely praise this game on is the characterisation of the evil geniuses and the stellar voice acting involved. I've grown to actually really like Zalika and her smooth, cultured voice is always a delight to hear.

Then I watched a bit of an Emma campaign and she sounds genuinely deranged and broken in a really cool way. It gives a lot of personality, even if a ton of the lines aren't actually personalised.

Anyone find out if passive heat can be completely negated by big screens yet? I FINALLY unlocked advanced radio repeaters and now I'd like to lay at least a level one network on every province so I can see every side story that's available

I saw someone claim that they slowed heat gain to basically nothing with a large room of 30 big screens and all regions at level 4 frequency. I tried doing a smaller version but even then I could never get the bloody minions to staff most of them so it didn't do anything.

Super agents also seem to drastically increase heat in regions they're in and possibly across the entire faction. I took out Agent X and now Patriot barely gains heat compared to the rest of the world.
