Friends, I could really use some assistance. I played EG1 and had no issues, even on Hard everything was manageable. EG2 is kicking my rear end though.

Specifically, started a new game and got set up. I'm doing reasonably well, slooooooooooowly researching and sloooooooooowly building up my base in between doing missions for $10k a pop and trying to keep heat manageable. Problem is super agents. I'm playing on the first map, they show up on the walkway to the depot and all my minions immediately lemming over there only to die horribly and build up a massive pile of bodies. The SA was the blue luchador guy, if it matters. I tried using my henchman's sabotage ability and it did like 50 damage to him and that was it, he immediately turned around and wrecked her.

I haven't even completed the first objective before the SA showed up and started just smashing my face in. So two questions - first is 'what triggers a super agent to show up?' and second is 'how the gently caress do I deal with a super agent without losing 2/3rds of my workforce???'

I've discovered something I'm wondering if the rest of you can confirm/deny.

Seems like if two investigators are both distracted at the same time, it ALWAYS fails. But if I tag them one-by-one and split up the group it has drat near a 100% success rate. (I don't know if it works on other agent types because I had to restart after a death spiral)

Also another question : Do side stories ever expire? Like, should I be worried about doing them in a certain time frame or can I simply do them whenever it's convenient?

Any chance someone can explain to me what's going on here?

I have like, 10 scientists who all have no job, their stats aren't low enough to require recharging yet, but why the hell aren't they researching? A bug? Or something else going on I should be looking into?

E: Well, nevermind. Decided the best thing to do was to MAKE Those fuckers care. So I sent my genius over there, executed a nobody in front of them... well, they're researching now!

A research boost genius is hilariously worthless.

I thought she'd be amazing at first because I was in full EG1 mode and didn't realize you can build more than 1 of each research device. Once I learned that, well.... at least she has a free brainwasher?

Do socialites do anything other than mingle? I made a bunch but they won't staff the tables and won't do that not-quite-a-run jog that the Valets do when picking up bodybags so they feel awful and useless compared to my Valets.

I just wanna say I loving LOVE the voice acting in this game. Brian Blessed sounds like he's having a blast reading off his lines as Red Ivan, Emma is perfectly malicious, and Max is a treat to listen to in the story beats.

The distract/kill/capture voiceovers play a bit too often but they're still good.

Questions.

1) On the 'Crown Gold' map, tourists are supposed to be going to the beaches. I've yet to see one go there. Do I need to unlock a specific casino item that allows them to hit the beaches or is it broken?

2) How long through the game do you unlock the 2nd tier of science minions? The 3rd? Maybe I'm doing too many side stories but this is dragging on and I can't build in 2/3rds of the base because I still have yet to unlock digging through tougher rock.

3) When do saboteurs/rogues show up? So far I've only ever seen the time saboteurs and that's it. Really disappointed that I'm dealing with investigators 95% of the time and soldiers the other 5%.

The 2nd Island - Gemelas or whatever - is very pretty. I want to make a good lair there but I'm unsure what would be the most effective way to build, with my lair split in half between two pillars. Kinda wish there was a lair builder out there that people could use to plan and show off creations.

Also SERIOUSLY wishing that there was a way to build and then 'pause' rooms like in the first game so I can plan out large swathes of my base and then control when each part of it gets built. That's probably the #1 thing I miss most from the first game.

all of my minions got stuck in the lunchroom and none of the techs were repairing stuff and that caused a cascade for fires and explosions in the reactor room in the basement and suddenly i had no power and no money and yea i could have sold off the stuff I had to build more reactors, but even then the minions weren't doing anything just standing around getting snacks rather than working.

Typically that happens when your minions are trying to replenish a stat and can't (Only 1 reeducation chair, no EG TV, or whatever).

Easy fix : Execute a minion near all the ones lollygagging around doing nothing, and all the minions stats get restored so they get to work.

Feels justified here.

Releasing DLC so soon after initial release makes it blatantly clear it's content cut from the main game to be sold separately.

Eh, could be content that the art team was working on after the main game was finalized and they were doing the last round of bug testing and QA. I imagine that with henchmen, the art/animation/models are the bulk of the work in adding them, so it's entirely possible that the teams that aren't actively working to fix or rebalance the underlying game mechanics are working on the Season Pass content.

E- Which I just now noticed that skooma512 mentioned before I did.

Replaying the campaign isn't a big deal IMO since each of the geniuses have enough individual quirks and entirely different storylines to be worth playing each of them through at least once. For me, that is. Others might get bored after 1 or 2 geniuses.

I still say that Montaņas Gemelas is my favorite map so far. Gorgeous area, the tram dropoff is neat, I can compartmentalize things very easy in the two-spire split, and the walkway between the two spires makes for a WONDERFUL trap hallway.

If you have to pay your minions a salary, do they have to pay for amenities? Can they go blow their savings in the Casino?

Nope. Salaries are there to introduce a money sink so that you don't ever fully ignore the world map. God knows in EG1 it was possible to very easily build up a fortune then the only time you'd ever bother stealing was when it was a mission objective. Now it's something you're meant to be paying attention to the whole game long.

Anyone who's played through this a few times, find that a particular Evil Genius story or character worth focusing on the your first time through?

I'd say all the different missions are pretty equal, the stories are all great. Max definitely has an easier time of things with his superweapon having the most lenient downside (Turning expendable minions into gold statues you can sell) and Ivan having the most painful one (Fires all through the base).

Personally I prefer Emma. Where the other geniuses are over-the-top boisterous, loud, and flashy she's subtle and insidious. They're all guns blazing away and she's a quiet knife in the back. Her sanctum has the best aesthetic, her superweapon is literally the 'everyone goes nuts and fights each other' type straight out of Kingsman, and her VA is wonderful. But that's just personal preference.

I'm pretty annoyed they keep adding content that requires starting a new game to get when one playthrough is a 40+ hour investment.

Apparently someone was bitching about it to Rebellion on Reddit and they said they'd look into a way to add DLC items to existing games.

Rebellion_Games - A huge thank you to you all on this Reddit thread for your honesty and for playing Evil Genius 2! The ability to apply DLC to previous saves is something we're currently investigating. We'll keep you all updated on our progress as soon as possible.

Casino is useful for milking a small but noticable amount of $$$ from intruders as well. Just keep in mind that when it comes to agents, 1 of each item is more effective than 5 of a single specific item. For tourists, spamming items is fine you just need enough places for tourists to empty their pockets into yours. I like to separate my Casino into 2 sections; one with stat-drain active that leads to my base, and the second purely for earning a little money on the side. It's a drop in the bucket compared to the amount you get from the world map, of course, but still rather nice overall.
