DontNod also didn’t seem to fully understand the difference between expulsion and suspension (the terms are used interchangeably by characters during the first game) and David calls Blackwell a college at one point. Probably best not to think about that kind of stuff too hard

the school in life is strange never felt weird to me because the town i grew up in literally had an arts and sciences technical school that encompassed 10-12th grade, had live-in housing, and was kind of considered eccentric because they did a lot of unconventional classes (and still gave credits for it). the ages thing also didnt seem weird to me because i almost attended, but would've had to repeat my 10th year since they didn't allow transfers in partway through (which is why i ended up not going). blackwell just felt like a version of that place, just with a larger campus rather than one massive building that was originally two pretty big buildings that'd been connected.

I’m hearing talks now that the game is going to shift between the past and the present as it goes on so it might not all take place in the 90’s. Your timeline is a bit off. Square greenlighted LIS2 at the same time they commissioned Deck Nine to do BTS. Deck Nine pitched their own narrative adventure game to Square in 2016 but Square wanted them to work on an already proven IP, hence Before the Storm.

So anybody have an opportunity to read the new comic yet? If so, how is it (I know at least that it’s for some reason set in an AU where Rachel lived and Max never came back from Seattle) Edit: Just read it, that was...odd. I'm not entirely sure why they decided to set this in an AU rather than taking the easier route of continuing off the game timeline (also apparently Steph knew Kate in this timeline and her death is what caused the former's downward spiral in place of Chloe getting shot/Arcadia Bay being destroyed) and the new girl Lily is basically like Alex except she can take memories from people instead of emotions. Lots of lesbians and magical realism/fantasy. Her space fantasy On a Sunbeam is free online and her books are you listening? and I Love This Part are more grounded modern world stuff.

Reviews for the new Dontnod game are in, range from good to great with the caveat being that combat is pretty sub-par but the rest of the game experience is probably good enough to overcome that issue. The narrative and story are highly praised, what Dontnod does well they seem to excel at with this one. Combat seems like a chronic issue for them in general, from Remember Me to Vampyr, but this is apparently at least a noticeable improvement on it.

I'm not sure how I feel about them forcing one timeline over the other if they ever choose to revisit Max. I think I would prefer it if they do some really wild and wacky crazy bullshit and have her constantly being sent back and forth between the two timelines and you have to solve whatever mystery is being presented while having to navigate two timelines. I think the comic sort of does this? Plus I think bringing Max back but not Chloe is a mistake IMO
