Welcome to Magic: Legends 2021 Omega.

Discord: https://discord.gg/kV2HaFf You'll see Magic Legends channel just mute and hide anything you don't care about it's fine this is fine

Brief Overview
The story of Magic: Legends is set within the fiction of Magic: The Gathering where players are given the opportunity to become a powerful Planeswalker through choosing a path through the planes, collecting and learning spells, creating powerful hands, forging bonds with potential allies, and to control the chaos as you fight to save the multiverse from an unimaginable threat.

Walk your own path: You'll need to cross various planes to save the Multiverse, but how you weave your path is up to you.

Control the Chaos: Control the chaos in real-time combat. Strategically choose the spells in your spell library because they'll be drawn at random as you fight.

Collect and Upgrade: Discover a myriad of spells and collect spell fragments to make them more powerful.

Fight Together: Choose whether you traverse the planes alone or with up to two other Planeswalkers.

Still on the terlit...

Combat And Stuff

Congratulations, you logged in. Now, here's how the combat works.

Basic Combat

Magic Legends is a game that heavily focuses on spell casting and summons by using its Spell Cards system. Apart from this, each class will have its own unique set of Basic Combat movements. These movements are categorized into three types, a Standard Combat Attack consists of basic attacks, a Special Combat Attack is a unique attack, while a Mobility Combat Movement allows a class to execute a tactical escape or mobility move.

Planeswalker Class Abilities

There are five classes of planeswalkers to choose from. They determine the initial set of combat skills a player begins within a game and do not have a mana cost. Each planeswalker has a set of primary, secondary, and ultimate abilities and their own set of Class Perks. They can be combined with any combination of cards, equipment, and artifacts available and can be changed at any point in the game.

Geomancer

Primary - Magma Fist: Pummel foes with mighty strikes from your magma encased fists.
Secondary - Volcanic Fury: Blast enemies with stone to damage and knockback enemies.
Ultimate - Furious Leap: Leap forward and slam the ground, causing moderate AoE damage.

Mind Mage

Primary - Mindlash: Blast enemies in front of you with a barrage of energy orbs.
Secondary - Confound: Deal damage to foes in a cone in front of you. Confuse a random foe that was not killed in this way for 6 seconds, then Stun the rest for 3 seconds.
Ultimate - Illusory Escape: Taunt foes with an illusion of yourself and gain increased movement speed.

Beastcaller

Primary - Wind Slash: Cleave nearby foes with your aether axe.
Secondary - Rending Throw: Hurl an axe to damage and mark foes in front of you.
Ultimate - Wild Roar: Heal yourself and your Companion instantly plus an additional amount over 6 seconds, and teleport it to your location.

Sanctifier

Primary - Divine Bolt: Fire piercing bolts of holy energy at distant enemies.
Secondary - Wave of Radiance: Create a wave of holy energy, dealing damage to enemies caught in the wake.
Ultimate - Salvation: Gain a Devotion counter, you and creatures you control are healed.

Necromancer

Primary - Grim Siphon: Lash foes in front of you with your necromantic pendulum, dealing damage plus additional damage over 3 seconds.
Secondary - Grave Upheaval: Deal damage to foes in an area around the target foe, then create 1/1 Skeleton creature tokens at that location.
Ultimate - Necromantic Aura: Deal damage over 5 seconds to foes around you and heal 10% of the damage dealt.

Mana

Mana is a required resource in order to be able to deal spells in combat. Each magic spell varies in mana cost and power. Strategically, this would mean the most powerful spells are not the best for repeated use during combat, as they have a higher cost and would limit the total amount of spells a player can use.

The mana meter is the bottom-most bar that will be colored or split according to the cards in use. There are five colors in the Magic Card deck, and the mana is divided among them with up to twelve mana in total. They can be classified according to their color such as black mana and green mana depending on the card. The split is predetermined depending on the selection and the amount of mana a card may require.

There are five classes of mana colors that correspond to their powers and planeswalker class type.

White: Healing, Control, Protection, Retribution.
Blue: Control, Efficiency, Manipulation, Defensive Creatures.
Green: Healing, Mana Ramping, Buffing Creatures, Strong Creatures.
Red: Damage, Aggression, Offensive Creatures, Enter the Battlefield Effects.
Black: Life Drain, Raising the Dead, Sacrifice for Gain, Single Target Damage.

Mana regenerates on its own over time, but can be assisted with the different armor parts and accessories that contain a mana regeneration perk upon use. Some Magic Cards specifically contain the effect to temporarily provide a Greater Mana Regeneration as well or the option to spend more mana for an additional or stronger effect.

Spark Meter

The Spark Meter is a valuable regenerating resource just like mana, but regenerates at a much slower rate. It is indicated by the top bar above the green health meter. The Spark meter power grants the ability to do two things, Mana Surge and Spark Powers.

Mana Surge

At a cost, Mana Surge can be initiated to gain a surge of mana regeneration for a short period. During the time of the Mana Surge, powerful mana-costly spells can be used that would have otherwise been too costly outside of the surge period.

Spark Power

Spark Powers are the ultimate abilities of the planeswalkers. They vary and are unique to each of the classes and deal powerful damage. They usually require a full Spark Meter so Spark Powers should be used conservatively and strategically.

Health Meter

The last meter to keep an eye on would be the health bar which indicates a player's vitality. Sometimes additional health can be seen as a transparent bar on top of the green bar representative of the player's health. A planeswalker like Geomancer can build up temporary health that would help complement hear close range damaging abilities.

OK, got a few out...

Spells

:ducksiren: This is the most unique thing about the game. :ducksiren:

In Magic Legends, players are given the opportunity to build a deck consisting of 12 cards up to two different colors. These cards conjure powerful spells, summons, and buffs that will aid in battle. Once players are out in the field, they will start off with four randomly drawn cards from the deck, and once a card has been activated, another random card will appear and replace the used card. Cards are obtained as rewards, loot, or purchased or given by NPCs, and these cards can be strengthened by collecting a required number of Spell Shards.

These spells can be upgraded and will affect the spells in different ways as they rank up. They have the ability to increase damage dealt, duration, and resistance.

Deckbuilding

When building the deck, 12 cards can be chosen from only two color classes of cards. Any colored cards can be chosen regardless of the planeswalker class the player has chosen. However, planeswalker traits come with their own set of buffs that may make a better combination with its corresponding colored card. Players have up to 12 creature points to use and 12 points divided up between Sorceries, Creatures, and Enchantments. During combat, players will have four spell cards on hand that will cycle as they are used. The deck cannot be modified during combat.

Spell Classes

Spells are dealt from the different Cards. There are five classes of cards that have traits similar to their respective planeswalker classes. These cards are the main source of abilities and spells and each have their own set of traits. The Card classes are sorted by color, Red, Blue, Green, White and Black Cards that deal the corresponding color spells. Each class has its own set of traits, strengths, and weaknesses. Despite the original colored set a player is dealt with upon choosing their class, any player can use any type of card and could even choose to disregard their starting color class completely once it is collected.

Red Spells correspond to the Geomancer Planeswalker and use red mana. Red spells use elemental forces to deal direct damaging spells and effects.

Blue Spells resonate with the Mind Mage Planeswalker and use blue mana. They utilize the power of control and can cloud the minds of enemies which would include stunning or disorienting abilities.

Green Spells correspond to the Beastcaller and use green mana. They grant players the ability to summon powerful creatures who will aid you in combat

White Spells respond to the Sanctifier Planeswalker and use white mana. They are centered around the essence of light. They contain a lot of restorative abilities that can benefit the player and other allies.

Black Spells correspond with the Necromancer Planeswalker and uses black mana. They use necromancy that gives the spells the ability to drain life and raise the dead.

Spell Mechanics

Aside from the Spell Cards' core magic abilities, they sometimes contain additional Spell Mechanics that have additional abilities and effects that can affect the player or enemies. Some of these abilities affect speed, attack speed, damage dealt, damage received, target defense, or grand the ability to stun, disorient, reflect damage and regenerate.

Equipment

Players will have six equipment spaces for different gear at a time from headgear, body, hands, and feet gear and some additional accessories. Equipment comes with its own set of buffs and Stat Bonuses that can affect the spells in use during combat. They have different effects and abilities and can add potency to attacks, resistance to a specific type of attack, mana regeneration, spark power regeneration, and a lot of other beneficial effects and abilities. Aside from their core modifier abilities, some of these effects can be modified as they each usually have up to two adaptive modifiers that can be swapped out depending on the player's preferences. These bonuses get stronger as they are upgraded and potentially unlock other bonuses as well.

Artifacts

Artifacts are sorted into three categories, lesser, greater and legendary. Artifacts also have their own set of Stat Bonuses, abilities and effects that affect spells and combat. As players rank up, different abilities for each artifact are also unlocked. Like armor, six can be equipped at a time. One legendary artifact, two Greater Artifacts, and three Lesser artifacts to support and add additional buffs to combat.

Regional & World Enchantments

World Enchantments are unlocked as a player levels up and unlocks the different difficulties as well. Increasing the difficulty will add regional and world enchantments, which cause permanent effects in the area and affect the player's combat. A greater difficulty will not only challenge a player, but will reap more valuable rewards

Currencies: The Most Toxic Part of the Game

Make no bones about it, this is the part of the game that stinks. There is an insane amount of currencies. They exist. They're dumb. But, you know how this stuff works. Protect your wallet.

Magic Legends Currencies

Account Currency

There are 4 of them.

ZEN can be earned via purchasing it from Arc, or trading for it through the Currency Exchange.

Empyrean Fragments are acquired from Booster Packs in the Magic Legends Store. They are used in the Empyrean Store, located on the Booster Pack page of the store.

Aether refines from Unrefined Aether automatically. It can be used to upgrade your Spell Cards and acquire new spells in the Realm.

Unrefined Aether acquired from completing Missions and Skirmishes. It refines into Aether automatically.

Planeswalker Currency

There are 8.

Gold: The default in-game currency that is accepted on nearly any plane. Use it to purchase goods from merchants, or to pay for any services such as Crafting.

Eternal Echoes: Eternal Echoes are used to upgrade spells beyond Rank 6. Eternal Echoes are available from Expert and Master difficulties.

Blue Planar Mana: Planar Mana is used in the Realm to upgrade structures and unlock new spells, gear, and artifacts. Skirmishes are a great place to acquire Planar Mana. When capped, Planar Mana converts to Gold. The Blue Planar Mana focuses on Blue Mana upgrades.

Red Planar Mana: The Red Planar Mana focuses on Red Mana upgrades.

Black Planar Mana: The Black Planar Mana focuses on Black Mana upgrades.

Green Planar Mana: The Green Planar Mana focuses on Green Mana upgrades.

White Planar Mana: The White Planar Mana focuses on White Mana upgrades.

Chromatic Mana: The Chromatic Mana focuses on Any Color of Planar upgrades.

Difficulties

Normal, Hard, Expert and Master. There are 4.

As you increase the difficulty level of a mission, you'll face stronger enemies, some gameplay mechanics or features are added to the mission through World Enchantments, and you'll also obtain a high quantity of greater rewards for successfully completing the mission.

In Hard Difficulty, each of the game's regions and all their corresponding overworld maps can have an optional regional enchantment.
While in Expert and Master difficulties, these enchantments cannot be removed, it is random, and are automatically applied once you start the mission.

Regional Enchantments

Regional Enchantments will modify the Combat in that Region in a particular way, and they will rotate every few weeks. An example of a Regional Enchantment is Burning, this covers the enemies in that region in flames, which will cause DoT on you and your allies who get close to them.

World Enchantments

World Enchantments is a type of item that modifies a Mission. Before you start a mission, you can apply World Enchantments to add, change, or alter various effects to the mission you are about to take. These are craftable items that can be made with materials, in your personal meditation realm. They are also tradable at the broker and are consumable once used. Using these World Enchantments will up the challenge but also give significant rewards. You may find a list of each World Enchantment's effects and their individual pages here.

CLASSES TO PLAY THE VIDEO GAME WITH

Just Serra Angel only. OK, but seriously:

*Dmitri Assassin, esq. is unlocked via booster packs. Lol

SPELLS

Spells or Spell Cards in Magic Legends is an integral combat mechanic of the game. Spells are categorized as magical abilities that players use to execute various combat skills such as summoning, conjuring magic, and granting buffs and effects. Players are given the opportunity to build a deck of spell cards that they can use in battle, however, these spell cards will be randomly generated or drawn in battle. Once you're out in the field, you'll start off with four spell cards that are drawn from your deck, when you've used or activated one, a random spell card will be drawn next, and so forth.

Upgrading Spells

There are certain materials that are used to upgrade the level or potency of the player's spells, and those materials are identified as Aether and Spell Shards. Spell Shards are fragments of a card wherein you can increase the level of the card if you've collected enough shards. Spell Shards are obtained as loot wherein it can be given as a reward for completing certain quests or dropped by enemies or bosses.

Aether, on the other hand, can be obtained by collecting Unrefined Aether from completing Overworld Activities and Missions, or Battlepass rewards which then are automatically refined into Aether. Alternatively, you can also convert ZEN, a paid currency into Refined Aether. Each account has a daily Aether Refinement cap of 50,000, and a maximum Aether storage cap of 2,000,000.
Mana Color Specialization

Listed below are the various colors of mana that have their own specialization:

White: Healing, Control, Protection, Retribution.
Blue: Control, Efficiency, Manipulation, Defensive Creatures.
Green: Healing, Mana Ramping, Buffing Creatures, Strong Creatures.
Red: Damage, Aggression, Offensive Creatures, Enter the Battlefield Effects.
Black: Life Drain, Raising the Dead, Sacrifice for Gain, Single Target Damage.

Spell Deck

Players are given the freedom to build their deck of cards which includes various abilities such as summoning, magical attacks, and defensive or supportive effects. Players can choose and mix up to two colors of up to 12 cards which gives freedom of customization that can cater to a person's preferred playstyle or create various tactics and roles if you are in a team.

Equipment

Equipment in Magic Legends features Sets and pieces that can provide additional bonuses to your character. Unlike other games, Equipment doesn't necessarily grant defense against various enemies, but instead provides different core and adaptive modifiers that affect the player stats. Equipment sets and pieces are usually obtained as rewards from completing quests, purchased from merchants, looted from various locations, dropped by enemies and bosses, or crafted by using the required materials.

Equipment in Magic Legends

The equipment in Magic Legends comes in four types of rarity. Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Mythic Rare which is similar to the types of a rarity for the Spells.
Equipment is also divided into six slots, one of each for Head, Body, Arms, Legs, and two slots for the Accessories.
The various pieces of Equipment focus on improving both the overall combat ability and survivability of the player's character through adding the various modifiers.
Duplicate pieces of Equipment can instead be used to swap out Adaptive Mods or to use it as a material to upgrade the stats of the Equipment's mods. On the other hand, you can sell it to a vendor in exchange for Gold.
Some various pieces of Equipment in Magic Legends are also cosmetics since they can change the clothing of the player's character.

Equipment Modifiers

Modifiers are grouped into two categories, a Core Modifier, and Adaptive Modifier. Core Modifiers are the main equipment bonus/effect of armor, these are fixed, they cannot be changed, and these can be upgraded to increases its stats. Adaptive Modifiers on the other hand are secondary supplements that players can choose to swap for a different bonus/effect and they can also be upgraded to increase their stats. By default, a piece of armor has one Core Modifier and two Adaptive Mods.

You can also do some crafting and collect artifacts that are lesser, greater and legendary.

This is so far your pretty typical Cryptic Studios level janky. I would not be surprised if in a year this game is totally rebalanced to be a more traditional action MMORPG for gear, and spells/skills.

Easy, you can absolutely get an army of players defending you by citing "oh but it's only an open beta, they can fix all this stuff!" even though you have little to no intention of doing that.

It's already infested zone chat, even.

Verdict: Oof.

Even before it runs like poo poo and VFX doesn't play half the time when it's hitching this is just a really bad ARPG. Having been around for the launch of both STO and Neverwinter, though I couldn't tell you why I was, those at least played decently.

I really hope they adhere to feedback because they are going to get and deserve a ton of criticism. They got a long way to go.

sadly unfunny

one reason to "release into beta" is so that in a couple months they can "1.0 release" and get a bunch of new press coverage, algorithm bumps, etc as a "new game"

same reason so much of MMOs historically was tied to expacs, they needed to be back on Best Buy shelves every so often to keep new people coming in

This might be the worst feeling ARPG I have ever played, also lol at the idea of playing an ARPG with no loot.

  • You can just run past like 90% of each zone without seeing a single enemy
  • There are side paths clearly meant to evoke exploration but there is literally zero reward for exploring them, there is no loot or experience or any enemies to kill
  • The spells feel extremely bad and laggy, they never aim where I would expect them to
  • Movement is laggy and bad and slow
  • It seems like the game mostly exists as a way to lore-dump exposition about the universe of M:tG but lol
  • Long unskippable cutscenes in the beginning
  • All the spells have similar icons so it's hard to even tell what spells are in your hand
  • But it doesn't matter because every spell is just a big nuke that one-shots everything in varying patterns so you just press whatever
  • Games that expect you to sit around plinking away with a weak basic attack for long periods between cooldowns are extremely dumb
  • Enemy attacks have tracking and will hit you even if you dodge out way before their animation even starts
  • It feels like I am playing a hastily hacked together PC port of a mobile game

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!
The game runs like loving garbage. I kind of like the skills system and animations well enough, but the actual enemies and stuff all feel identical and so does every activity you do in the game. The map is a loving enormous pain in the rear end to navigate, especially since it rotates when you rotate and makes it impossible to orient yourself. This plays way better on a controller than M&KB.

rotating the camera also seems to interrupt movement/previously issued commands and stops your character instantly, which is amazing when going through the longer winding bridges/tunnels/whatever

Nice to get like 45fps and hitching and stuttering with a 1080ti in a game that looks maybe marginally better than Diablo 3.

It's hard to get a decent feel for the game with the network lag I was also getting, but the combat feels not great - I just don't understand the concept or reasoning behind the deck system. Why is it completely random? What purpose does that serve except to emulate randomly drawing cards? I mean, make an MMO/ARPG in the MTG universe, sure, but why shoehorn in this weird-rear end ability system? Have the deckbuilding concept just relate to your character build, not your actual combat abilities. It also serves to take your attention away from the combat as you try and figure out at a glance what abilities you have available. I'm really surprised they've spent (presumably) years developing this and not refined it further than what they have.

It's also just janky in general, with mobs difficult to target sometimes and your character getting stuck on scenery and mobs and just generally not feeling that responsive.

Yeah i'm trying this because a friend of mine at work is and I don't really get this either. It's kinda neat as a unique way to differentiate it from other arpg's where you make a build and mash the buttons but in practice I don't like having to pay close attention to the bottom of the screen to know what spells I have. You really need to learn what your spells are by recognizing the icon for it and know if it's a quick cast, ranged, AOE, etc and hope you get the right one at the right time. I'm kind of curious to see more for some reason so I might keep playing this a bit. I didn't know until now that there's no loot though lol.

I haven't been able to find out by searching and the last thread closed right after I asked there. Is this game actually an MMO or is it all lobbies or instances like Diablo/PoE/GD etc.

It's more of a MMO, even if the world feels extremely empty.

There's a billion people in chat and about 3 when you're running through a map, so the worst of both worlds. Also the game is bad.

Stickying this for a month because it's going to be a shitshow. Downloading now.

I played this at PAX East right before the world shut down. I like the idea of drawing random abilities like from a Magic deck but everything else looks janky and/or sketchy.
