So in America phone numbers are a nine digit string, meaning there is at most 1,000,000,000 possible combinations. America's population is 328 million, but when you factor in business phones, especially ones with multiple lines you'll start to see the impending crisis we have on our hands that nobody is talking about. We passed peak phone numbers a long time ago and soon we won't have enough to go around. We MUST solve this crisis!!

Switch to hex code for phone numbers. All the current phone numbers will still be valid but we'll massively increase the available numbers by including ABCDEF as digits. We'll have 68,719,476,736 numbers

it's ok, they found another number between 6 and 7, that gives way more options or maybe they'll just add extra area codes idk

Surely the business numbers are offset by the babies who don't have phone numbers yet. Typical political fearmongering.

Everyone cool and nice gets a 1 as an area code, everyone else a 2. That will gives us 2 billion numbers and you also always know if you should pick up the phone from the caller id

divide the country in half so that all calls to the other half get a new country code, and also we can have some nice sporty wars with each other now and then. win win

We need to switch to banana phone technology. Banana Phone Facts: - It grows in bunches. - I've got my hunches. - It's the best, beats the rest. - Cellular, modular, and interactive [unintelligible].

I’m an accelerationist, OP. I have three numbers just to ensure we reach peak phone number faster, the disruption caused by phone number scarcity will finally force boomers to send emails instead of calling three times in a row and never bothering to say what they need in any of their three minute long voicemails.

Honestly just drop phone numbers. go completely to VoIP tech using screen names and emails as ways to talk. I will only be using Discord as a means to conduct business cuz I'm a real gamer. to everyone using a 9-key pad: future is now old man.

Just add another digit. I don't know anyone's number in a world of cell phone contact lists anyway. I could still tell you all my childhood friends home numbers though, which are probably long disconnected.
