Thanks Ed. I would've done this but I've been hella slammed at work this past week and soon I will gorge myself on video games and MLS pretty much from now until Monday.

So you're going to do the GDT too, right? :v:

Assuming it takes place this year and they don't change the qualification method, here are the 8 MLS clubs that will participate in the US Open Cup, based on the best record after 3 games:

Seattle
New England
NYC
San Jose
Salt Lake (only played 2 games, but no chance of losing ground)
LAG
Austin
Orlando
LAFC, unless Columbus win by more than 3 goals against DC on the 8th

Imagine seeing Montreal's rebrand and everyone's reaction to it and then going "let's do that, but worse!"

I guess there's always hope that they do what Chicago did and go "whoops, our bad".

This screams to me that they did marketing surveys, found out that casuals/non fans absolutely hate yellow because to them in Ohio, yellow = Pittsburgh Steelers.

tbf, distancing yourselves from the Steelers is a good thing, because gently caress the Steelers.

Ditching the Crew name is stupid though, if it happens. "FC/SC before or after City Name" should die in a fire.

So "Crew" seems to be relegated to the same role as "Loons" are for Minnesota, which is a major step backward.

Everything about this rebranding is just baffling. Why 3 weeks into the season after a championship run and before a new stadium? Why drop the iconic moniker? Why go all in on the :geno: aesthetic? Sucks it's happening to your team siggy/other Crew supporters.

In slightly less baffling news, here's another reason to hate Toronto:

I have to imagine it would not. "Save the Crew" was a pretty big drat deal, and they almost completely ditched the Crew moniker not even two years later. It's not the same as Precourt coming back, certainly, but definitely reeks of not giving a drat about the history of the club at all.

Also, "Crew FC" would not be yet another loving "<City Name> <FC/SC>" name.

ESPN posted an interview with Howard Webb, head of PRO who oversaw VAR's initial implementation in MLS. One interesting nugget is that they want to broadcast live audio during reviews but FIFA needs to approve it, which is another, albeit minor, reason to hate FIFA.

tbh, I see that and think, "yeah, that looks like it could be the Revs' logo", which I guess is a good start. Still seems a bit :geno: though. All of this is moot though because I'm pretty sure they have to keep the crayon logo by law.

As for who the next team to rebrand will be:

Most Likely - San Jose (unless Kroenke suddenly remembers he owns the Rapids, then them)
Who I Wish Would - RSL (change the loving name already)
Comedy Option - Miami

11 leagues games + 4 CONCACAF CL for a combined 2-10-3 record. The only non-interim head coaching stint that was shorter that I can think of was Wilmer Cabrera's "only-finishing-out-the-end-of-the-season-and-nothing-more" 9 game stint at Montreal in '19. Even the carousel that was Chivas USA had their coaches hit 20 games.
