Yea she's making a joke about Grant and her 'going full Tisch' with their high drama choices and all because I'm pretty sure either she or he or both of them actually did go there. It's a deeply specific new york theater kid joke to make.

But yea, Dropout rules and Mice and Murder is fantastic. I actually missed out on the Unsleeping City stuff they did last couple seasons so I've been without fresh D20 content for a bit.

Speaking of, should I binge Unsleeping City? Obviously I know the cast is good and all but hearing Brennon describe the 'spirits of New York' involving 'just the actual man Andrew Lloyd Sullivan, with a big anime sword' thanks to Grant made me go 'oh yea I should watch that'.

Anyway, yes binge Unsleeping City. It's amazing.

I hope they return to A Crown of Candy, too. It really keeps you on edge with the "anyone can die" aspect of it and you can see it in the PCs. There's also this harsh juxtaposition where the cast would try to do some something zany and comedic and for it to be immediately crushed by reality.

it was Stephen Sondheim yes, which makes the joke even better.

Also same, Crown of Candy was super fun, I was sold about the time in the first episode when someone pointed out that the person giving this dramatic story about being war brothers surviving in the trenches together (and watching each other poo poo, for security) was a goddamn talking slice of cake with arms and legs.

Yea incredibly hype for that, fun Dimension 20 take on Hogwarts, great cast, Brenan playing for once, Aabria running the show, all fantastic news. I was kinda hoping for more Crown of Candy because I was pretty sure they'd do a 'sequel' after Mice and Murder but boy was I glad to be wrong

Like, I don't really understand your core complaint, the protagonists of the story fought against a bad system? They should have been more respectful to the fictional wizard school that was an obvious allegory for class and integration politics since episode one?

Yea I would say Brennan and Lou 'stole the show' but not out of any genuine lovely behavior like talking over others and being assholes, just kinda by the force of them being two very charismatic guys who have riffed off each other for a long time now and had the perfect combo of 'genuinely nice but kinda dumb jock eager to find a new 'team'' and Evan's whole 'genuinely wants to be friends despite being mr dark cursed one' vibe. Sam and Dream were great characters too, but yea they did wind up a bit overshadowed by the time Evan and Jammer were in full broski mode with eachother.

Orion's post was pretty dead on, obviously it's kinda hard to 'blame' Brennan for being charismatic and...not doing the weird thing of being a white guy playing a black guy...but it is a bit unfortunate in a show with such a focus on the themes it had it kinda wound up the special white dude show with his three poc friends. Orion was pretty clear about it being more 'ah, that's unfortunate' than any real 'bad thing' but of course because it was a topic about race in nerd spaces I'm not surprised he pulled it after waves of 'SO WOW BRENNAN WAS THE BAD GUY FOR BEING WHITE HUH????' and poo poo.

new D20 is so good. All D20 is good poo poo but boy is the original crew just so good together again. All these characters are great and this setting is fantastic.

They all have such fun dynamics together, I wasn't expecting to love Barry and Gunnie's Casino trip so much but it started off gold with the double failed simple check to find literally any place in a massive space station to reasonably expect to buy kitchen gear ending up with 'oh yea, Barry fully thinks you can get kitchen gear in the casino' 'yea they've got a buffet, right???' and just got better.

How were they turbofucked? I'm relatively new to all of this so I don't know much of the history behind it. Dropout is pretty cheap for what you get and I can't see how they could be making much off it.

Unless I've forgotten and gotten them confused with the many other places in similar situations I think College Humor was one of those sites that got scammed by the Facebook push to 'pivot to video' (the tl;dr for that is basically Facebook MASSIVELY juiced their numbers to make video content seem super appealing, so tons of places went all in on videos, leading to a lot of places winding up with people they can't pay when it was clear there wasn't nearly enough profit in the 'pivot' to justify it).

CH also owned Dorkly which they shuddered pretty suddenly, and it was clear CH proper was next, Sam worked a deal out to basically buy CH (and Dropout) from them to keep it from shuddering but he had to let most everyone go (I think hilariously Brennan was the only actual creative staff left because of D20?) and run on a skeleton crew just to keep uploads of previously recorded stuff going for a good while.

I don't think Lou shot himself in the foot with that statement. The argument to vote for Brennan is that he was clearly the best player, had dominated the challenges, found all the immunity idols, formed an early strong alliance, and never needed to lie or deceive. Lou's first argument was basically just pleading not to let Brennan win again, but when he revealed that he had masterminded voting off Katie that negated Brennan's argument that he was the best player.

Yea. Lou's argument was that he was actually the best player because the whole point of the game is to survive and outlast the others. Brennan was great at playing the alliance game and finding idols but Lou was easily the better Survivor player by getting Katie off and managing to keep that hidden until the end. For all the funny 'this is MLK's dream, they can't vote for the straight white guy' jokes he genuinely was just playing the game better by letting Brennan take the heat as the most obvious target (yet the guy nobody could actually hurt, so his alliance with him stayed perfectly safe). Dude killed it, Survivor style.
