This Galaxy is All-American! Let's Play Stellaris 3.0 Welcome to the Americas! This galaxy has been seeded with twelve different versions of the US, ready to expand and crash into each other. There are no Fallen Empires, no Caravaneers, and no pre-space flight civs. Just Americas. Presenting our contestants: The Capitalists In the early 21st century, the American civilization faced an existential threat: the demands for infinite growth were stripping their planet bare. The richest minds of the world gathered together to decide how to solve this problem and save the only home for billions. The solution: gently caress that, let the poor die, we're moving to space. Thus, the Chamber of Space Commerce was born. A loose association of orbital habitats, nominally governed by elected officials, the Chamber is actually controlled from behind the scenes by the heads of corporations. What few social services exist are there only to ensure the entirety of the workforce doesn't die before they can be squeezed for profit. Once, there were many faiths on Aufshor. Some believed that God demanded his followers help those suffering. Others that nature itself needed people to live in harmony with it. Others still feared divine punishment if they failed to do charity. What utter horseshit. God demands one thing and one thing only: Line. Go. Up. This is the one true faith of the Church of the Almighty Dollar. Feed the masses to the maw of the great beast, and you will be rewarded. Spread the gospel of the dollar to all the corners of the galaxy. Believe it or not, at one point, the Military-Industrial Complex was not the greatest institution in America. There were even times when those in power dared to speak up against it. But after centuries of forever wars, mergers, and acquisitions, the Raytheon-Boeing corporation solidifed its grasp over the planet. With no one to sell missiles to, the corporation needed to quickly find new markets. The Nationalists There are non-Americans in this galaxy. This is an abomination. Bombard their worlds until nothing moves. Destroy their food supplies. Spread disease until none are left. The galaxy belongs to Americans, and Americans alone. It will be perfect. It will be cleansed. The Manifest Destiny will be its cleanser. Once, America ruled the known universe. People from all over the galaxy bowed to the greatness of suburbs and chain restaurants. They ruled as God intended. But Americans were weak. They drifted from the holy words of the Founding Fathers, and the greatest of them - God-King George Washington. They dared to question the Fathers' intentions, and God punished them, burning one world after the next. This time, there will be no mistakes. United under the single voice of God-King George Washington XVI, protected by God, the Divine Kingdom of America will retake the stars. Time and time again, government men came for the real Americans. You know the ones we're talking about. Taking their God-given right to do whatever the hell they wanted, consequences for others be damned. Time and time again, the real Americans fought them off, organized into the unstoppable Y'all Qaeda. Eventually, the government men stopped coming. They were the government now. gently caress. Once again, another brilliant plan hatched by the company men has gone slightly off the rails. A light coup here, an assassination there, some weapons sold to some people and whoops, the nukes are flying. When the radioactive dust settled, the remnants of the organizations at Langley, Fort Meade, and Quantico had to combine their efforts to move forward, forming the Central Security Bureau. Tasked with making sure that nothing like that ever happens on American home turf, the Bureau aims to protect America from enemies foreign and domestic. By doing what they do best: overthrowing governments throughout the galaxy. The Pinkos Decades ago, the American people surrendered more and more to the ever-growing power of Congress in return for trivialities, just as guaranteed food, shelter, education, and medicine. Slowly but surely, even Congress itself delegated more of its duties to the newly-created Govter machines tasked with taking care of all of their needs. Eventually, the Nanny State oversaw every aspect of day-to-day governance, completely separate from the Americans themselves. It was time to find more people to take care of. Whether they want it or not. Year after year, Americans knew that their best and brightest gathered in one place: Hollywood. The smartest, most informed people, with their finger on the pulse of the real problems plaguing American society were gathered in a small neighbourhood within LA. After all, that's what the TV and movies kept telling them. Over time, all political power was surrendered to the Yass Kings and Queens, who consulted the crystal priests for the best course of action. May the Crystal Hollywood Kingdom bring peace to the galaxy. By force, if necessary. If you paid attention before the Awakening, you could notice something was... off with the Liberal-Communists. At first, they used the same phrases. Then, they started passing information almost instantaneously. And finally, they were reacting as one, unafraid of losing their lives, behaving as if they were cells within a single body, rather than people. Bit by bit, the Liberal-Communist Hive Mind took over the entire planet. It became America itself. And it was time for America to grow. America was always a land that took on newcomers from all around the globe. Those that came over slowly lost their connection to the old country, becoming American. Over and over. Americans became very good at turning others into themselves. So good, in fact, that they needed more. An endless parade of all kinds of people, stripped of their identity, forced to become American. The Melting Pot now reached the stars. You will be assimilated. And finally, us The media blitz was relentless. Hoodlums. Rioters. Terrorists. They were coming to take your house, your dog, your toothbrush, and force you to share. They believed in nothing but authoritarianism and violence, armed with milkshakes, bricks, and molotovs. They would topple your statues, destroy your history, end Western civilization itself. They were right. Old civilizations fell. They fell with violence. But what is the violence of a brick compared to the violence of an eviction? The new world was no dinner party. There was much work to be done. But the hungry were fed, the homeless were housed, and the sick were treated. The Black Block Party was off to a good start. Vote 1: The Great Beginning We begin in charge of a single planet, our homeworld. We're in the rear end-end of a huge galaxy. But we will study it. And we will build. We will bring our society into space. Our goal is to bring equality to all Americans in the galaxy. How we will do that is up to you. Will we wage unending war to force others to change their governments? Will we throw our weight around the Galactic Community to starve other empires until they see the error of their ways? Will we support displeased elements within their populations? All of these are pretty on brand for America, so go wild. There are a few non-negotiable things here, though. We CANNOT switch away from fanatic egalitarian. What kind of communists would we be if we did that? We also CANNOT switch from the Shared Burdens living standards, unless we enable Utopian Abundance. The administrators will live in the same conditions as the workers. I have also taken the liberty to guide the very early development of our burgeoning space empire. Our first tradition tree will be Expansion, to help us settle new worlds, and our First Contact protocol is set to Elusive, just in case. We can move away from these, if the thread votes on it, though. At the moment, we need to define a few of our general stances towards the galaxy. 1. The Potential Xeno The galaxy is filled with Americans, our comrades, opressed by a dozen of horrible systems. We will free them all. However, at some point, we're bound to come across non-Americans. Space-bound creatures, ancient monstrocities, maybe even secret societies on explored planets. How do we approach the Xeno? A. We shall treat the Xeno as well as we treat any American. They shall be freed from opressive systems, and brought up to be comrades. B. The Xeno is different, and thus worrisome. We know what to expect from Americans, but the Xeno could be as likely to shoot us as they would be to be friendly. We must maintain distance from them. 2. The Diplomatic Approach There are many Americans in the galaxy, organized into many systems. We cannot immediately free them all. While we build our strength, we need to decide how to approach these systems. A. We must maintain diplomatic channels. Embassies, relationship improvements, the works. Until we are ready to strike, the oppressive systems that enslave our comrades must be lulled into a sense of security. B. Let these regimes know where we stand. We will not entertain their legitimacy. Our envoys will degrade relations and insult them at every opportunity. C. Revealing our hand too early will help neither us, nor the Americans trapped in those systems. What we need to focus on is intelligence gathering. Then we will know when they are at their weakest. We will be able to revisit these stances in specific situations. We might want to treat Manifest Destiny differently than the Nanny State. Other issues will be voted on when they come up.
